#Green Iguanas diet

i thought it was more specific-
i didnt think tomatoes and lettuce wouldn't be good for him aww man... He just really seems to like the two so i give it to him
for some reason sometimes he will eat blueberries but never sliced up apples
not sure why he never eats apples...
Might be color preferences, some iguanas have em, I know a iguana that refuses to eat unless red is there
really? thats crazy i never heard of that before
Some iguanas, even other reptiles, don't like certain foods. Mine won't touch apples or pears. They are hard so may not like them due to that
ah ok ok i see thank you!
Also I wouldn't feed grapes.
thank you too-
๐ฅฐ
why not? he likes em it seems too
are they bad as well????
i hope not?
are they?
I'd have to relook it up, but the skin of them aren't good for em and I just overall wouldn't.
ngl it hadnt registered with me that grapes were on there
yeah, the seeds normally arent good for most animals either
^
np
I have a list I made for safe foods if you'd like me to send it here.
omg yes please- damn i was just told that iguanas ate about any fruit or vegetables with the usual greens
yeah, that goes for reptiles in general, most reptiles shouldnt eat any acidic fruits, i imagine theres some exceptions with specially adapted stomachs and stuff
@timid spire
I'm here
Awesome. :)
oh thank god i been giving him most of the good stuff...
just shouldnt have been giving him grapes and lettuce and... tomatoes...
oh gosh...
i feel kinda stupid now-
He will be fine though yes?
this isnt like LIFE threatening all i gotta do is next time and onward for future feedings follow that chart?
I gotta edit the bottom part so I cut it out. ๐
Yeah, grapes and lettuce and tomatoes are the wrong answer, unless it's Romaine Lettuce. Iceberg is just water, no nutritional value at all.
ok
well?
Your iguana will be okay as long as you stop feeding em it.
Not at all. Life threatening would be French Fries and potato chips. Iggys are really hearty. Make sure you give enough calcuim powder and UVB
yes i got that
okay good good im really really glad
thank you Tenente
Anytime. To be honest, I've had to re learn a lot of what I knew. back in the 80's and 90's iceberg lettuce was considered ok. It was in the early 90's that we found out romaine and spinach was a much better option.
I made ALL the mistakes back then
Spinach isn't great either ๐
I learned that too late. Now it's all , mustard, collard greens, etc, etc
Yeah the special stuff
I learned painful lessons. There are a lot of Iggy owners on the net that have great advice on how to raise them and care for them
Iceberg lettuce is just crunchy water xD it's not useful to humans either! It's banned in my house in favor of kale and romaine
Maybe kale is good for iggys as well? I'm not sure
Iceberg is what I use for human salads. ๐
I personally don't use kale for any animals, just because collards and stuff is better.
Interesting! I wonder how things like ruccola would fare as well, cabbage...
Amen.
Makes me want to grow a big patch of organic dandelion for folks with animals that need a fresh safe source. Rodents also love and thrive with fresh dandelion!
Do it and send me some for free. ๐
Gotta get myself some food grade seeds and send them somehow from Sweden without dying then lmao
Bet.
This could be a good side hustle if you can pull it off.
Is this a pic of your Iggy?
naw naw i got mine as a baby
still a bab
well a year old
thats just some other pic
He's a beauty.\
looks like it
He's a Banana Pectinata
I love that iggy
How big is the enclosure if you don't mind?
not big enough anymore lol
i plan on getting him one of those big 6 foot tall cages eveyr iguana should be in or whatever
yknow the ones that costs hundreds
sooo im saving for that
At a year old 4x2x2 4'ft tall, is a safe bet for Greenies. At 2 years, It's time for a 6'ft tall 3-4 foot wide enclosure
Yeah my girly is in a 6ร5ร5
That's a perfect size
well is it good to get the 6ft tall one as soon as possible?
That's debatable. You can't go wrong with that, but when they are small, you can do a smaller enclosure. Heres' one school of thought. If you get the BIG enclosure right away, You're only buying one enclosure, and that's it. If you go from maller to larger, you're buying ywo and spending more money

i think this is what i got him
i could be wrong
That's 3 x 1.5x1.5 foot
Not bad for now
This is what mine will look like as an adult
Now, the best option will be to build the 6' x 4' enclosure.
Hello reptile lovers. For a while now and from what I have gained through others' knowledge apparently as a green iguana owner you don't have to feed them insects/ small meats and animals and they rather live a lot better off on veggies and fruits. So I have been feeding mine just that with grapes, LOTS of lettuce/ cabbage, tomatoes, blueberries, etc etc. But I am curious as to what other things I can feed my green iguana? Does anybody know?
I wouldn't recommend tomatoes much, they can be high in acids but im not 100% sure how it is with iguanas, also lettuce doesnt have much nutritional significance, some other greens you can think about are Collard greens, Mustard greens, Turnip greens, Dandelion greens, Cilantro, Parsley, and then for veggies and fruits, Bell peppers, Squash, Cucumber, Sweet potato, Green beans, Carrots, Broccoli, Apple, Pear, Melon, Blueberries, Raspberries, Strawberries, Mango, Banana, you can also add calcium or vitamin powders
