I know that adding dinos to the game is not "historicaly accurate", but everyone loves dinos, so maybe it could be exception.

There could be special event, or secret area where you can get one (maybe it could be some kind of a ritual where you can resurrect him from the fossil or something similar).

And of course, no need for multiple dinos, one is totally fine and from my perspective it would not change drastically the feeling of the game.

What do you guys think?

(Jus a joke)

But that being said, if they do add one, I hope it’s like. Idk how to put it — like. From a group we might be able to recognize? Even if the model is just "generic ceratopsian", or "generic theropod", or "generic sauropod", I’d be happy that it’s recognizable at least. Stardew valley has "dinosaurs" you can hatch in your coop, but they don’t look like any dinosaur I’ve seen (which kills the paleontologist within me) sweatsmile_Vuak

Could be a secret found in a in the caverns.

There are many hidden secrets, including secret owl landing spots in the caverns.
One of these that could require all the powers in a hidden location could drive to a deeper chamber where a prehistoric zone has remained with one (or more) dinossaur species.

It would be a great reference to "Journey to the Center of the Earth" by "Jules Verne".

There could be 2 pet races (1 maybe small similar to a raptor, and another with huge adults, kinda like the mammoth, that is the long neck) and 1 big tameable resource race (huge egg layer)

Maybe you find a dinosaur egg frozen in ice at the back of a cavern and you can hatch it. thinking_Garrek

honestly I'm cool with adding nonavian dinosaurs as long as they're accurate/don't make me cry as a paleontologist. y'all already have hella anachronistic fish in the game, why not a fluffy velociraptor? heck, if you add Kulindadromeus, you have a perfect sheep dino right there

I think dinosaurs are anachronistic enough to stretch believability in a game that otherwise doesn't have significant fantasy elements. Having dinosaur pets, however, would be a great third-party mod.

#

Or have you thaw out a frozen dino egg or something works as well.

This would be such a neat idea with the addition of the Mograni and Yakuan settlements in future updates
Like Dodos near the Yakuans (ik not technically a dinosaur, but still)

The Dodo was discovered around the 1500s and went extinct in the mid 1600s, so they definately existed in this game's time period.

#

I support pet Dodos.

To be fair as a Paleontology grad student the anachronism of the fish messes with me but I feel like given that prehistoric fishes/molluscs are much less in the public eye, it probably isn't immersion breaking for many players. While it definitely messes with me, I could see where probably most are just like "oh neat ancient fish" and move on with their lives.

Unfortunately, I am not a paleontologist nor paleontology grad student (I went the way of the extant animals and chose a degree in ecology & evolutionary biology) but, I never did grow out of that love of prehistoric life, so like. I recognized a lot of these fish and molluscs, but. Yeah, I’m assuming many players don’t. I agree with you — the anachronisms with the fish aren’t immersion breaking for as many players as something more recognizable as a more well known non avian dinosaur would be

(That being said though, not considering the fish, the current ||giant cave spider|| pet isn’t so "accurate" either — though I understand that’s kinda a different matter anyway)

I will say that I didn’t expect "full accuracy" going into the game, yes it doesn’t have big fantasy elements, but like. They’re there, and the game isn’t so much as strict "neolithic" as it is "neolithic-coded" if that makes sense(?)

if nothing else, adding more recently extinct birds will scratch the dino itch if you play it up enough

I would just be thrilled to bits to have a megaloceros that could drop antlers you could use for stuff. That would be amazing heart_eyes_cat

heck, I'm happy to make a full list of recently extinct birds that would be great additions. it's kind of my research area and everything 🙂
