#Trying to get that "right" look

Apologies for a vague post but I'm trying to get a nicer look for the game I'm building but struggling to work out exactly what it is I'm looking for. The game some how looks unpolished and I want to take it to that next step. I realise I need to turn anti-aliasing on which helps but I'm wondering if there are obvious things that I'm missing. Somehow the scene doesn't feel "thick" or its too washed out or something I can't put my finger on.

  • The scene is low poly to allow for a bunch of low end mobile devices
  • Theres an ambient light and a single directional light
  • Basic shadows at the moment

Anyone got any suggestions for next steps to get to a better level of rendering?

Try adding baked AO or postprocessing SSAO, I have found that AO really gives the scene depth.

Baking AO into your textures is preferred

Trying out the SSAO - not seeing any effects, been playing with the parameters but not getting any darkened edges between edges that I can detect

Got somewhere I like a lot more

Extra light, softer shadows, black outline to crisp it up and a different tone mapping

feels nice 🙂
