#Thoughts on switching javascript-help to a forum?

Neat! The new format looks great! There is a small typo in the guidelines under section 3 (missing the word "put" I think):
But remember to it in backticks
Is there an archive of the posts from before the change?
Yea am curios about how to navigate to the older messages too
Thank you, fixed the typo
@dry ferry @spring falcon The older javascript-help channels is currently archived, we may consider opening it up again later.
Why are they archived?
I think it was because it wasn't possible to convert the previous threads into the new format, so they were archived so they wouldn't be lost
I see
That's right, and to avoid confusion between the old channel and the new one
It would be really nice if the old posts were available during a transition period? Maybe lock them? Or better yet lock NEW posts but allow replies? There were a number of threads I was following that are now simply unavailable...
On the positive side - I'm anxious to see how this works out, looks like it'll really help to keep things tidy!
Will this format be done for the other coding help channels?
Same thought, name the old JS-help to be "js-help-archive"
Oh, we are transitioning to forums, neat!
Is there a reason there is only one post? (this one)
@vale geode @sour lily We're considering an 'old' section for the text channels if we decide to switch them all to forums
We're going to monitor this one and make a decision based on how it goes
It is - it's called forums
I think the reason is just that no one else has started a thread yet. Just tried with a non-admin account and it worked, so don't think it's a technical issue (let me know if I'm wrong though)
You're not Leanne, I have the new post option too, probably take a min for people to get used to it etc, the annoucement is still new, so soon! โข๏ธ
Oh Damn, I'll check it out
Love it. The forum format just feels like a better fit for questions/answers. I always found the old chat style quite hard to read or follow, which Iโd mainly put down to being over 35 years old and therefor ancient! Looking forward to seeing how this pans out ๐๐ฅณ
I like this style too
Glad you like it!
Me too!
Can this thread be renamed ? It's like people are reading the first few words then asking questions directly in this thread.

Thoughts on switching javascript-help to a forum?
Whoops, I have renamed this post now and reposted the JS questions into their own posts - hopefully this will give people an idea of how the forum will work ๐
Wooo just look at all those JavaScript-tastic posts!

I vaguely remember offering the concept in one of the townhall chats, at a collaborative web document in notion perhaps, so I am glad it eventually bubbled into the general pool of anonymous ideas. This way it will be easier for everyone to search for questions and answers, like a Scrimba stackoverflow ๐
Thanks
Also, it could be useful to add a "solved! thanks!" icon at the main area with the question loop, for when the user that raised the question considers it answered
Not sure why, but this old thread is all the time highlighted. Anybody else has it too? https://discord.com/channels/684009642984341525/1022994953711923220
Did you open this thread?
If no, then it should be highlighted
Every thread is highlighted for me except this one
Yes I did, even just for the reason you mentioned, so it would go away ๐ฅฒ
so it's something on my part then... some cache or something
I cleared everything, no use... but my discord settings gone lol
Oh, interesting idea. I wonder whether we could use tags for that ๐ค
Oh the Discord settings reset is the worst
(It's not highlighted for me btw)
Right. Luckily I didn't had that much set up ๐
