A "Default" timer after most recent bid.
Too many auctions just sit for days with only one bid and seller has no time set.
No point in bidding if they aren't gonna accept first bid

grizzled lodge
#

seller can set whatever time limit, but if they don't set their own, it goes by that default

sharp belfry
#

should also auto-close if no messages in X time -- sorta thing

I’m not sure if there is a way to make it a thing in discord but I’m in agreement about maybe making it a rule for auctions requiring the seller to set a time after last bid, I’ve seen a few times where the seller delays for over a week and then simply changes their mind about selling, which is their right but pretty unfair to those waiting to see if they won 😅.

Same goes for people who state there is a reserve bid but then don’t say what it is until they see how the auction is going and then make one up after 😬😋.

ive always disagreed with a reserve bid -- the concept is dumb imo

I just think a "standard rule" of 48 hours after last bid applied to all auctions should be applied. I personally have sat on auctions as the only bidder for weeks because the seller just wants to wait until they get the price they wanted. I've also had them sit for days just to be removed because the seller changed their mind. It's not fair to the buyers who have the expectation that once you bid, it's a deal taking place until you're outbid

sharp belfry
#

i can see the 48hr rule being applied. to many auctions have sat for days, like you mentioned, with "lets see if there's more interest" after 2-3 days

#

but youll never be able to get around the "seller has right to refuse sale" part, regardless of the time allowed

grizzled lodge
#

true, but i've never seen an item go up for auction IRL that was allowed to be refused... just sayin

fresh zodiac
#

Irl is legally binding 😋 it’s a bit different much as I agree with you

#

If I had my way I’d just ban people from being able to auction if they didn’t follow basic etiquette so it’s a good thing I don’t have that power 😂😂😬

sharp belfry
#

lol

#

seller has always had right not to sell, as long as i can remember

fresh zodiac
grizzled lodge
#

usually with auctions you sign a waiver once you put it up for auction

sharp belfry
#

in IRL, sure -- i meant here/in gw

grizzled lodge
#

oh yeah for sure

#

i was just arguing the points being made, not necessarily saying that "right to deny sale" should be revoked for in game

sharp belfry
#

ohhhh lmao ok ok

#

imo:

  • there should be a standard 48hr rule applied, unless otherwise specified by seller
  • get rid of stupid ass r/b. if you want no less than X, set the s/b as X
  • start banning (some how/way) people who mis-use auctions as a "get an idea of price/interest"
grizzled lodge
#

reputation system maybe for that 3rd point?

sharp belfry
#

that might work

#

but would only really benefit people who sell tons of stuff - as reputable

#

like, if im selling X and @fresh zodiac is selling identical X, but has more rep (bc they sell alot more than me) -- im screwed

grizzled lodge
#

well exactly, it would encourage people who follow respectful trade procedures to sell more, and hopefully discourage disrespectful traders from trying to auction

#

someone who is low rep auctioneer due to constantly pulling their items out of auction when sale price is too low won't sell as much unless they get their rep up by not pulling items anymore

sharp belfry
#

rep system might be to complex for discord lol

fresh zodiac

Mm I disagree on getting rid of reserves. They play a decent part in auctions if used correctly same as they do irl. I’ve won an auction because of a r/b where I wasn’t named before.

People who don’t even want the items I bid on have a habit of bidding me up, I offered x amount to buy the item outright as I didn’t want to participate in the auction. Seller put my bid as a reserve, but allowed the auction to have a lower s/b, and stated if the auction matched or exceeded the reserve, the person who matched it or exceeded it won. The auction gained literally no interest atall with a s/b of 100bd lower than my reserve, so the seller gained the difference for allowing me to just bid without it being known I was in that auction 🙂

sharp belfry
#

but i tend to like that idea

fresh zodiac
#

The rep system would be easy to manipulate sadly, removing people’s right to auction for bad behaviour is the only option really 😋

#

I saw that 😋 and I agree.

sharp belfry
#

lol dont want to be too poo on everyone

#

but gist was -- most people dont use r/b properly, imo

fresh zodiac
#

No it’s fair enough to call it out, I could name a small amount of people who have done it multiple times in very recent weeks with no deterrent to keep doing it 😅 but I’m not mean enough to name names.

sharp belfry
#

ill name names

#

damnit i cant find the auction now, but there was a specific example i had

#

but this conversation is straying away from the OP - add a 48hr timer by default

grizzled lodge
#

yup lol

sharp belfry
#

i found the auction i was looking for for my "rb is a cop-out" argument -- i dm'ed it to you @fresh zodiac, dont want to clutter up the thread 🙂

If a end time isn't set, it will be default to 48 hours from last bid.
Your SB should be your reserve bid, forums did away with RB nonsense years ago.
Seller always has the right not to sell.

Great debate everyone 🙂
