all self hosted on a pi! Feel free to send whatever you want or even try breaking it, just no spam please ๐Ÿ™ will be up for now unless it gets a bit crazy

proper rapids
#

I should get a live stream going for it :kappa

#

we got two rolls of receipt paper currently so we have a decent amount to play with ๐Ÿ˜…

Amazon has got you @proper rapids

Aha it doesnโ€™t support widebyte that first one totally had emoji!

proper rapids
sacred hearth
#

There was a ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿค˜

#

(Fun fact: I once broke an entire clouds metering/billing by using a ๐Ÿ’ฉ emoji in a resource tag key).

#

To be fair the metering/billing team worked for me so it was an easy Sev 2 to route ๐Ÿ˜œ

proper rapids
#

The library does have image support which I've been tempted to mess with but I need to see how to implement it safely

#

(As if this project is safe in any way ๐Ÿ˜‚)

I see various barcode formats are supported as well as a wide range of thermal printers. How about adding an input field to the webpage for us to enter a url. Then have that url printed as a qr code with the message. Just throwing random thoughts out there.

sacred hearth
#

This is how you do it @proper rapids

proper rapids
#

But I could definitely mess with that as an addon field

#

The one and only @median oxide rip his emojis though

swift remnant
#

If it came from Tim, blame it on DNS.

proper rapids
#

In all honesty I could post my current code and see what bugs you guys find. Have some collaborative development ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Get us some line breaks without word splits!

sacred hearth
#

How so? ๐Ÿ˜€

swift remnant
#

I think metering/billing is what did it.

sacred hearth
#

I was a Demon Internet ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง user in the CompuServe days

proper rapids
#

Majority of the code came from chatgpt and was just revised and sanity checked

swift remnant
#

My early internet access was via a military research network, that gave me access to ftp and lynx. I wrote scripts that took my BBS mail and ftp'd it to a fellow Sysop's uni machine where he would download to his bbs and send the mail out. All to save a few bucks on long distance. ๐Ÿ˜„

sacred hearth
#

Iโ€™m on my phone so this might be awful ๐Ÿ˜‚

swift remnant
#

Nice job Alex. Combining @proper rapids's project and the ideas behind Tim's latest video into a single comment.

sacred hearth
#

I love OpenAIs stuff for basic hacks.

proper rapids
#

there were some issues, and I went and sanity checked it before going public with it though ๐Ÿ˜…

swift remnant
#

@calm sleet pointed me at claude.ai for code related stuff.

Poe gives you all the things

#

For one $20/month charge.

swift remnant
#

Awaiting the, "but wait, there's more."

In the realm of AI, where wonders unfold,
Thereโ€™s a service called Poe, a treasure of gold.
For one low fee, it opens the door,
To countless AI models, and so much more.

From chatbots to vision, and data in streams,
Poe brings to life your AI dreams.
No need to choose, no need to fret,
With Poe, the best models youโ€™ll surely get.

Itโ€™s a hub of knowledge, a fountain so grand,
With algorithms ready at your command.
Just one subscription, a price thatโ€™s so fair,
Gives you the power beyond compare.

Need natural language? Poeโ€™s got you covered,
From simple tasks to those undiscovered.
Image recognition, data analysis too,
Poe's models are vast, and all there for you.

No need to juggle, no need to explore,
Different servicesโ€”Poe has the core.
With constant updates, and support so strong,
Poe ensures youโ€™re never wrong.

But wait, thereโ€™s more, just step through the door,
This service keeps growing, it continues to soar.
With every new model, each feature in store,
Poe's just the startโ€”but wait, thereโ€™s more.

So hereโ€™s to Poe, the AI galore,
For one low fee, it offers much more.
In the world of machines, itโ€™s hard to ignore,
Poe's the gatewayโ€”but wait, thereโ€™s more.

Why am I hearing "Nevermore" in my head. lol

proper rapids
#

seems like it worked

sacred hearth
#

Well hot dang @median oxide is onto something with this AI stuff

swift remnant
#

I started watching the ai video, but had to step away and leave it for later when I can give it more attention. I have openai integrated into HA, but would like to host things local.

#

Interesting idea, think I will add a command to my discord bot: !techano, it should coexist nicely with the !lmgtfy command.

proper rapids
#

refer people there for any complaints they may have

#

honestly though, the receipt printer might be the quickest way to reach me at this point considering its right next to my desk and there is no way to mute it ๐Ÿ˜…

swift remnant
#

That would cause you to quickly use up the two rolls of paper.

proper rapids
swift remnant
proper rapids
#

could do that right now in all honesty, I usually just flip the switch on the back of the printer itself and leave the website up so it errors out

swift remnant
#

Or setup the webpage to allow the post only during set hours.

proper rapids
#

killing the printer might be the easiest, plus it still logs messages on the server and returns an error to try again at another time

#

whoever sent the bananas, it turned into a ?

proper rapids
#

Shutting it down for tonight, will be up layer today

proper rapids
#

Its up again, todays goals for it:

add url field to print barcodes with urls

start on image support

silk hull
#

What about unicode characters? ASCII Art?

proper rapids
terse veldt
proper rapids
#

Let me plug it in and get it running, ima head out so go crazy

terse veldt
#

no worries

#

just first I saw it. thought i'd check it out

#

neat project

#

would make for an interesting stream challenge for TIM, to read comments only from a receipt printer LMAO

sacred hearth
#

Isnโ€™t that how Twitch works for him already? ๐Ÿ˜œ

terse veldt
#

people could send them all during the week and then put them in a hat and pick them out

#

could have other practical uses.....like a way to remember stuff, or add items to a grocery list

balmy mural
#

you remember me of this guy on tiktok modded his printer to feel pleasure

terse veldt
#

thats weird lol

sacred hearth
#

Didnโ€™t you already post that? ๐Ÿค”

balmy mural
#

i found it on tiktok

proper rapids
#

@terse veldt alright its up, should work now ๐Ÿ˜…

balmy mural
#

proper rapids
terse veldt
#

#

thats cool

proper rapids
#

to do: add support to print urls as barcodes and add image support

balmy mural
#

add live feed

terse veldt
#

yeah that can go on the site

proper rapids
#

thats current code

terse veldt
#

not even live but like a snapshot to show what was printed that changes every 30 seconds or somethin

proper rapids

proper rapids
#

I have a couple of spare ones that I use more as toys now since they failed me one too many times to be called security cams

terse veldt
#

mjpeg image grab, should be easy with js

balmy mural
#

maybe add fliters to the words and strike system and blacklist the ip and block vpn

terse veldt
#

i modded a wyze cam to work as an RTSP feed using wifi

proper rapids
balmy mural
terse veldt
#

its already behind cloudflare

#

that will block a lot of the bad stuff

Yes, from a kmv pull out monitor, the rack mount ones. I plugged it in and after a bit I start to notice a burning and there was just smoke coming out from the ps2 mouse/keyboard leads and they were hot to the touch

#

Still no clue what caused it but that was eventful. I unplugged everything asap and have never used it since, it's still sitting in my closet ๐Ÿ˜…

proper rapids
#

Got pretty busy last night so I'll fire off some answers.

  1. No building network from vampire taps ๐Ÿ˜…

  2. Probably IDE would be the oldest

  3. Centurylink DSL, I'm 19 I just escaped dial up ๐Ÿ˜…

  4. Oh yeah for sure, just kinda shrugged it off and kept going as it wasn't too important. Now we have mirrored disks on a truenas for our media

proper rapids
#

Very accurate tbh
