Hi,
Instead of notifications in the upper left that can get in the way, why not have a little connection icon on the top (somewhere for you to decide!) that turns red if no connection, green if connection. Even could have a disconnected icon and a connected icon?
Additionally a little bell icon that either glows when it's active or some other differentiation, and it's "dull" or off when no happy hour. You eliminate another notification this way.
Anyway just a suggestion!
