#UI Lag Originating from the Caves. (Spoilers Ahead)
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Haven't experienced it myself and my global cache is pretty full, maybe drop a save with a day on which this occurs?
Where do you want me to drop it? (Also may be related to the caves again)
just here
and if you could tell what are you doing during that day before it happens
C:\Users\%username%\Documents\RainyGames\SunnySide
Run around a bit, you know. Play the game, go to the mines etc
The UI lag slowly begins to come in until eventually it's a slideshow
I sadly can't replicate myself but its definitely something for rainy and @spare pivot to look into
Tracking my framerate this time
Let's see what happens.
Entering ice-caves. Expected drop. No biggy.
No UI open
UI open. Big dip
Basically 10FPS drop from opening the UI
hmm i've been to ice caves but didn't get any drops in fps after opening the inventory
Current frame-ratein combat.
INb4 this is just... an isolated incident but I reloaded the game multiple times and it happened still
(I followed what I was told to do too. Each cave, save. Reload etc.)
After a fight. The slow degrade..
Now below 30.
And lower./
Low during dialogue too
Could this be the Looping tutorial thing again
Lower...
(To preface, 3080 12GB - 16GB Ram - AMD 3700x)
Behind Gabe's farm it stutters to hell. (With Sub levels on)
Low fps in menu's (So basically any UI element which involves inventory)
Annnd lower
Did the save take a while for you to load?
not really, just as long as any of my saves
I am so... baffled
Gonna test how long mine takes
21 Seconds. Is that... normal.
my main save that i play on takes 39seconds
Then Im gonna assume it's normal. Just trying... to rule things out
So you no longer get any performance loss after a while. All is well?
i never had any on my save, though i disabled tutorial popups i guess that was why
Then I can only assume I'm still getting the looping Tutorial popups still
I can’t really get into details at the moment but I’d like to add that I’ve been having a similar experience with the UI, especially in the caves as I go in and out of combat specifically.
I haven’t disabled the popups so I could try that next time?
Phew, so I'm not the only one. However, are you on the Beta Build?
Pretty sure I’m not
Ah this is a beta build thread. Try swapping to the beta build and follow the steps in #📌public-beta . Make sure to back up your save first.
Apparently the beta build has fixed the issue (I think) but not so much on my end
Ah, must have found this place by mistake lol I was looking for another issue I was hoping had a fix.
I’ll give that a try next time I’m on, thanks!
Any way to disable tutorial popups without going into the game?
im not sure, i think that might be part of the save file since it is accessed through phone and resets on new game
My save is doomed isn't it...
don't feel gloomy just because I can't reproduce it, i bet rainy will get on it if it is serious issue for anyone
okay so I've not touched the caves.
At all.
For about 40 mins
No Loss of FPS from UI elements.
It's the caves...

UI Lag Originating from the Caves.
This is where I'd like to post a FFXIV meme that's just "SUNNYSIDE CAVES (Extreme)" <_<
Thanks for all the info we can look into this 😄 youre not the first person i heard mention they think lag is tied to the caves 👀
1 Hour 20. No FPS Drops since i've not touched the caves.
Bit of a drop from the cache but probably expected.
Out of the cache. All good.
So close to fixing the issues... so close.
Still without going into caves now it's slowing
Out of inventory
Would it be possible to mark this thread as spoiler? Haven’t been further down the level 2 of the mine yet 😊
UI Lag Originating from the Caves. (Spoilers Ahead)
I can kinda confirm this
the mines and siuch are super fast if you go there after a game restart
... they slow over time
Is this the save file for me to try? 🙂
Also I'm wondering, is it only the ice caves that is problematic?
Heya. Yes. This is the save.
As for caves. It's the caves in general. Also noticing a slow down without going into them after about 1 hour.
It's just quicker to slow down in the caves.
So I've been playing this save for a little while today, here's my findings:
- I can't get the UI slow down no matter what I do..
- The caves are generally lower fps especially the ice level, but I think that is a separate issue with just overall level optimisation and potentially the fact that each Zant is emitting a shadow casting light.
That said, my only suspicion was garbage collection not triggering quick enough to purge the references to all the icons and UI elements you load, it is currently the default 60 seconds for each triggering of garbage collection, I could reduce it but I don't know what other side effects that could potentially have.
I've made some posts on unreal forums asking other devs what they think but so far I've been very unsucessful to get the game to slow down by just opening UI elements 😦
Oh I should say though, thank you for the save I found more performance tid bits to fix btw 🙂
Im still of the opinion that the UI isn’t the cause but just the visual consequence of a different issue
I'll swap the game to another drive and see whether or not its a failing drive, unsure about that one though.
Thank you for testing however. It's really really odd.
you could check the disk with a utility like crystal disk info as well to be sure
Everything else runs fine on it. Plenty of storage left too
I also have pretty dramatic slow down that seems to get worse after a cave visit. I'm only in the D||esert|| area so it is definitely not isolated to one area. Things I did in cave:
-Mine
-Expand map
-Battle
-Open ofuda packs
-Rearrange ofuda
-Spam all gems and rocks and minerals on every cache and door.
-Run from enemies when detected.
-Fight when caught or clearing area to mine.
When I was back on the farm it didn't feel too bad but as soon as I interact with anything with a menu (shop, storage, phone, mailbox, etc) the slowdown was huge. I honestly consider this pretty game breaking. The way it seems to get worse over time makes me think of a memory leak.
Right phew it's not my harddrive then
And yeah it's why I've been slowly backing away until things are fixed. It's killing my mood to play imo
Same. I think I'll stop for a while. The caves itself is honestly not fun. There are too many gems, too many enemies. Combat is slow and managing ofuda with RNG packs is bothersome. The limited inventory + needing specific gem for doors and cache gets old very quick. If you run down then realise you forgot that one rare gem and just HOPE you don't run into needing it. I also find that you lower levels load you up on stone and clay reeeeaaally quick. Which is hardly what I need, especially at this level. There are way more mining nodes near the entrance for this stuff.
And the expect me to carry a sleeping bag and tent in the same inventory... Nah.
Caves is unfun. Right now it is unfun and buggy. The fact the bug follows you out of the cave is definitely ruining the vibe for me.
It could just be a memory leak. Rainy did mention something about cleaning something up for optimisation
Yeah. Hopefully it is found and patched out. I'll jump back in at a later date and take a break for now. My earlier mention of mem leak is just a wild guess based on the symptoms I'm seeing.
I'm having really nasty slowdown in caves at this point, if I enter the 4th cave, my FPS starts dropping until it's a slideshow, and it persists outside of the cave.
It starts just the moment I enter one of the "climate" caves. It feels like it may get worse with opening the phone or battle planner, but it definitely happens without that.
Doesn't seem to be RAM for me, highest it has gone is like 6k
I still have this issue also, restarting the game after this occurs fixes it until it slowly winds down again.
While I've experienced the UI lag from going around doing cave stuff, it's also happening from overworld stuff, and that's a lot easier to test so I've tried a few things. I'm currently on PC on the beta playing on controller but this has been happening in previous versions as well. I'll be giving numbers for how many I did but obviously other computers may need more, or fewer, or be unaffected.
All of these were done between hard restarts of the game and as little else as possible was done.
Things that had a negative effect on my in-menu FPS
-
Opening ~100 Ofuda packs and sorting them into my chests. Wasn't paying attention so I can't really give steps for this.
Took me from 30->7fps -
Purchasing ~33 Ofuda 7-packs
Opening 3 packs
Discarding all the ofuda I got from the packs
Repeat opening and discarding until I was out of packs
Took me from 30->20fps -
Ordering 1 of all the available seeds worth less than 6 coins, with royal shipping
Taking all the packs out of the delivery box with quick move
Opening all the packs
Discarding all the seeds
Repeating until I had discarded ~330 stacks of items
Took me from 30->20fps -
Acquired a stack of 775 organic matter
Split the stack down by half until it's reached 1
Discard the 1
Repeat until I've discarded ~309 organic matter
Took me from 30->20fps -
Purchased 1 of all 13 items in a vending machine
Discarded each of the items
Repeat until I've discarded ~416 items
Took me from 30->26fps -
Walk up to a set of 8 containers with 163 items of varying stack sizes inside
Open one
Empty all the items into my inventory with quick move
Close the container
Open it again
Put all the items back with quick move
Repeat for all 8 containers
Took me from 30->25fps -
Walk up to 1 of those containers with 24 items in it
Open it
Empty all the items into my inventory with quick move
Put all the items back with quick move
Repeat emptying and putting back without closing until I've cycled the inventory 8 times
Took me from 30->23fps
Things that seemingly had no effect on my in-menu FPS
-
Opening the "Options" sub-menu on an item
moving the cursor to a different item
Repeating until I'd opened the menu about 400 times -
Walking up to a set of 15 containers with big lots of items in them
Opening and closing each
Repeat until I'd browsed the set 15 times -
Splitting a stack of 775 organic matter
Splitting the new stack back into the original stack
Splitting the original stack back into the new stack
Repeating until I'd split a stack ~400 times -
Picking up a lone fish in my basket
Dropping it in the next item slot
Repeating until it had traveled the entire basket
Repeating that until it had traveled the entire basket 20 times -
Discarding a stack of 775 organic matter
-
Going to a vending machine
Buying the max of the cheapest item
Repeating until I had run out of money -
Purchased 1 of all 13 items in a vending machine
Repeat until I'd purchased ~416 items
I think that's all I tried
It's a bit hard to test whether acquiring items or discarding/storing them is responsible since there's no, good way to get lots of items without also needing to get rid of them by discarding or storing. Looks like just purchasing all the vending machine items over and over had no effect over also discarding them though.
I've experienced a lot of this as well
Not sure if this will appease you guys to know, but the console port (PS5/Xbox) did inherit this bug. And the FPS drop in menu after the cave unlock is a lot more notacable (unplayable even)😓
I'm PC but not on Beta build so if that doesn't help you disregard the following but:
I haven't touched the caves since Summer and I'm now approaching the end of Winter. I have probably 10k+ items in my cache. When I deposit large stacks into the cache I get a game freeze for a few seconds that concerns me it's going to crash the game. My game slowly gets more and more laggy (including in all menus) over hours of gameplay until the point its stuttering as I move about the world and I have to reboot the game to fix it. Huge lag happens from pick-up-able items on the ground until they're picked up.
