#Saves Disappearing/Crashing Constantly on Xbox Series X

Xbox Series X; Single Player; Weave07

When I sort my inventory and move around resources in my base, I am crashing anywhere from 2-10min. The worst part is that I'm saving every minute because I now know it can crash at anytime, and my saves aren't saving.

I can probably get around five saves in at most while organizing, before the game crashes. Then I boot the game back up, and under my load files, all I see is the first save from the start of the session, along with backup saves from days prior.

I have around 50 storage boxes filled with random items, and I'm just trying to finally sort it all, but now I'm stuck having to wait for a fix for this, or else the session is a waste of time.

I'm not using a buggy, and completed with the game so far and am not being attacked anymore. That use to cause me crashes before while being in my base from time to time. Just looking at storage boxes and taking items out, and placing them in another storage box.

More concerned with the saves not being there than the crashes.

What you can try is clearing the RAM. Hold the power button on the Xbox for about 10 seconds until it turns off. Then unplug the Xbox from the power cable for 1-2 minutes. You should do this after a game crashes so that no corrupted files remain in the RAM. And also make sure that your Xbox hard drive has at least 30-60GB of free space, maybe more for an Xbox Series X. This will help the RAM from filling up so quickly. What I can also recommend is disconnecting the Xbox from the internet; that's helping me play properly at the moment until the update is available.

So far so good, about 10min in and doing the same as I was before, no crashes. I had held the power button on the Xbox, unplugged the power cord for a few minutes, made sure I had 60GB free of storage space on my system, and it's working good for the moment. Didn't disconnect from the internet yet, but will try that next if it starts crashing a bunch again. Will let you know after playing more here.

# sacred sparrow Can you let me know if it worked for you.

I had a couple crashes now after 30min of playing. The first one happened after I pulled right trigger to quick collect everything from the storage chest to my personal inventory. The second one happened after going to save my game, and once I clicked to accept to override the previous save, it crashed. This also caused me to lose my saves for the last 20 min, in which I was saving every minute, by overriding the main save, not creating new ones.

I can't go offline and play this game since this isn't my home xbox, I'm system sharing my home xbox with a friend to share games which we've done for the last 8 years or so.

At least 50% of crashes seem to come when I click to accept an override of my current save state. I'd say the other crashes are just bulk moving of inventory.

Kept crashing more frequently, but with just opening storage containers and moving items. I did learn to just create new saves instead of overriding my main save, so that if a crash occurred during me saving, it didnt erase that whole gaming session.

I did delete around 100 old saves, to where now I just have around five. I did try turning off lights in my base and sending my buggy back home, but they didn't change anything. Maybe my graphic settings could be tweaked some? It could be internet too, I'm on wifi with my console getting around 200mbps download/upload. Wouldn't think speed is an issue there though.

Feels more like it's just centered around moving too many items between storage boxes. Just too demanding of a game for my system to handle the process.

Outside of these crashes, I've only crashed around five times when I completed the first chapter of this release.

I can really imagine that the crashes are caused by having too much stuff in your chests.
Because you said you have 50 chests and probably also a big base.
For example, I don’t have that many chests, and I also don’t have a big base, so I haven’t had any crashes at all in around 25 hours of playtime, to be honest.
100 save files, wow?!
I only have 9 – 5 autosaves and 4 manual saves.

You also have to keep in mind that everything you build in the game, or keep in your inventory, or put into chests, or leave lying around in the world, uses memory. And that currently leads to FPS drops and crashes.
For example: the snail shell can’t be broken down and also doesn’t despawn. That’s a known issue.

Welcome to Early Access 😏.

I don’t think your internet connection is the problem.

I have to play offline, because since the last update I can’t load or save my save files while my Xbox is online, since there’s a problem with the connection to the Obsidian servers.
That connection is meant for sharing save files.
This bug cost me several save files, because I was searching for solutions until I found the offline trick.
I also contacted game support, but they didn’t give me a solution – instead they asked me to test a few more things and they also wanted my Xbox global ID.
I can only hope they fix it with the next update.

The other thing is that you can’t play in offline mode.
I know that too – I do the same with my nephew.
That Xbox sharing method, where you link the Xbox consoles together.
I warned him beforehand and just told him that I would have to make my Xbox my home console again.
So that I can play the game in offline mode.
You have five switches per year that you can do. And once the online function works again with the next update, I’ll switch back to my nephew.

What I forgot to mention is that I’m playing on the Xbox Series S, so on the weaker console.
And I also turn down a few settings, like camera shake.
There was also something else I turned down, but I can’t remember it right now.

Gotcha, yeah that information all helps. Probably nothing specific for me other than to just see if the game gets optimized more down the road. I'd imagine alot of people will have tons of loot and huge bases here soon, so the problem might arise for more people. Wish I would've organized as I played the story, but I was just in a hurry to see all of what they had released so far and would just throw my loot in random spots 😅

Just an update after the patch...everything is working smoothly and I haven't once crashed. Saves aren't dashboarding me and erasing either.
