How to make a dropdown overlay?

Hi, im kinda new to figma so forgive my if i misunderstand anything silly

I've been trying to get a simple overlay dropdown to work with smart animate, but the smart animate option wont pop up despite the two frames being the same name and being a copy of each other (the frame on the left simply crops the stuff on the right)

the reason i want to use smart animate is cause using "move in"makes the overlay just move on top of the menu title and it looks bad

I know it can be worked around using components/variables but the simple click out to exit is something i'd like to keep

You can create a overlay dropdown effect easily. but your approach is wrong i mean it is not a simple prototype or a screen prototype , you have to create a component. come to dm i can teach you their by sending a video recording

after putting your object in the frame, hit some of these to adjust its alignment within the frame. im sure there are ways to use the layout mode to do this as well

can you explain how my approach is wrong? there doesnt seem to be any problem with this method outside of animation being wrong. otherwise, the work around for having a click out function seems tedious
