How to link a variant to a button?

Sorry if i used the wrong terms, im new to figma but basically I made variants of the side navigation and i want to make it so that if i click on a button it changes to the variant, is this achievable?

Hey @jagged flower ! Is the button outside of the variants? In that case it might be easier to do if you have pro plan or the free educational plan (if you have an edu email). Otherwise, you would need to make screens that uses the different variants based on which button is clicked which can be a bit more work to maintain

ii did buy a pro plan today but is it okay if i change to educational? I have an edu account
