Hi I can't seem to get my prototype to fit the screen horizontally. Is this because I don't have autolayout on the whole frame?

No, you would need the frame to match the device if you want to use one!
You can get the right frames for each devices either by manually making it, or you can choose the correct one when you click on frame and figma will show a bunch of options on the right!
