#Celes (no persist combo)

Hey, I came here to seek some advice because I'm brewing a Celes B3 deck (no persist combo)

I've already gotten feedback from friends and a few random players on how to improve it, but now I'm a bit confused because I'm receiving different, and sometimes contradictory, advice

Right now I'm running 37 lands including msfcs, along with 10 mana rocks at 2cmc

My goal is to play Celes as soon as possible, discard the bricks in my hand, and then reanimate them on the following turn or later

Some people told me I don’t run enough lands and should go up to around 40 to ensure I consistently start with 3–4 lands and a mana rock, so I can play Celes

Others told me I should run fewer mana rocks (cut signets) but run Dark Ritual, some told me to not add it...

Some say I don’t run enough reanimation spells but others say I already have enough because the deck blinks creatures and can chain reanimation with creatures

I was also told that I'm running too many bombs, and that I should narrow down the big creature package and add more instants and sorceries for removal or other stuff

But at the same time, other people told me that I already run plenty of removal, especially since the deck can blink and reanimate creatures with removal EtBs

So at this point I'm not really sure which direction I should lean toward...

Different people are going to view the game differently, and will give different advice

vast copper
#

of course, half the fun is "talking shop" and cominng up with good ideas together

dire crow
#

Ex: the only decks that need 40+ lands are landfall and…that’s it actually

#

Dark ritual is really fun personally

vast copper
#

Well i have found 40lands and 60 others is a good base to start from

#

instead of Dark Ritual, can I suggest Culling the Weak ... it's a smidge better

dire crow
#

I usually start at 36

#

[[culling the weak]] is pretty good for a reanimation deck

crimson hemlockBOT
vast copper
#

yeah ... works real well in tandem with Grave Pact

#

and if you are going to do a reanimation loop there's Gravecrawler (a self reanimator) and Carrion Feeder

#

Heck a friend of mine rejiggerd his zombir deck when I told him about GP, Culling the Weak, an Carrion Feeder

stoic moat
#

I see

#

I'm not aiming to add cheap creatures that reanimate or else I would Bloodghast and imo if would only start to split the deck in 2 diff directions

#

I only kept cheap creatures that serve my gameplan

vast copper
#

how about [[Golden Demise]]?

crimson hemlockBOT
vast copper
#

or Vona's Hunger?

stoic moat
#

[[Vona's Hunger]]

crimson hemlockBOT
stoic moat
#

Don't I already have enough creatures?

vast copper
#

Vona's huner pretty much halves everyone else's creature count.

stoic moat
#

I understand, that said I'm at a point

#

Ok sure, I could add that

#

But what do I cut?

#

A land?

#

A signet?

dire crow
#

Probably a signet

stoic moat
#

Should I cut all signets?

vast copper
#

you could cut the signet and put in Chromatic Lantern

stoic moat
#

I only like Chromatic Lantern in 4cmc and 5cmc commanders ngl

#

I usually avoid 3cmc rocks

vast copper
#

just saying it works for mana fixing

#

maybe cut Summon Bahamut

#

similar to Vona's Hunger, Golden Demise

stoic moat
vast copper
#

bit high of a CMC and (for me) seems a little niche

stoic moat
#

Cmc doesn't matter tho

#

I reanimate bahamut

#

I think Angel of Despair is worse compared to Bahamut

vast copper
#

in which case, that might be a better choice

stoic moat
#

Angel of Despair hit lands but in B3 I rarely see problematic lands tbh

vast copper
#

you call,

#

depending on how fast your reanimation goes, maybe add in Impact Tremors?

stoic moat
#

Mmh

dire crow
stoic moat
#

I mean

#

Everytime I played I never had trouble to reanimate stuft

#

I never hard cast high cmc creatures

#

But my commander allows me to loot

#

So I shape my hand a lot

vast copper
#

then Impact Tremors might be helpful

stoic moat
#

That's the whole point

#

I also don't need to reanimate every single turn

#

I just reanimate whenever my opp remove my annoying creatures

#

In the meantime I swing

#

Blink Celes for a better hand

#

Feed my GY

stoic moat
#

IN CASE I've to hard cast

dire crow
#

[[whitemane lion]]

crimson hemlockBOT
vast copper
#

if it work for you, go for it. I can only make suggestion

stoic moat
#

I gather opinions

#

I like [[Vona's Hunger]]

crimson hemlockBOT
vast copper
#

I do too ... decen and cheap board control

#

Deck is pretty solid TBH

stoic moat
#

Do I put back celes in hand?

vast copper
#

in what context?

stoic moat
#

I'm asking

#

Why play whiteman lion

#

Usually you wanna loop that creature

#

As it put itself back in your hand

#

Works with [[Selvala, Eager Trailblazer]]

crimson hemlockBOT
stoic moat
#

For a lot of EtBs

#

But for Celes idk

vast copper
#

that might be better

stoic moat
#

Wdym

vast copper
#

in comparison to whitemain lion

dire crow
#

You can use it to stop removal from killing a creature

stoic moat
#

True, like a blink

#

I might add [[Cauldron Haze]]

crimson hemlockBOT
dire crow
#

Oh [[Robe of stars]] is something I always try to recommend

crimson hemlockBOT
dire crow
#

Also [[batwing brume]] and [[inkshield]]

crimson hemlockBOT
stoic moat
#

Funnily I play these cards in other decks

#

I feel like my deck doesn't want to hold mana anyway

#

So ikshield is not a good idea

#

Strong card tho, I run it in Alela

dire crow
#

Fair enough

stoic moat
#

That's me but I try to avoid playing the same cards

#

Among my decks

dire crow
#

That makes sense

stoic moat
#

I somewhat want to run Broodlord but in that case I think I should just remove Saw in Half

#

Or else it combo

dire crow
#

[[bitter triumph]]

crimson hemlockBOT
dire crow
#

Also it’s stupid but [[cabal therapy]]

crimson hemlockBOT
stoic moat
#

If I want ways to discard

#

I would add Faithless looting first

#

I think

#

Might be wrong

vast copper
#

for protection during attack, what about Dolmen Gate?

stoic moat
#

With flying

#

I think [[Primal: Odin]] would be nice
