That's not a reprint?
Because I could see people making a case for llanowar elves.
reprints are included in today’s question
If I'm going new cards I have to collectively say the surveil lands.
Simulacrum Synthesizer is one of my favorite cards printed this year, but I think the best card outside of the surveil lands is Three Steps Ahead, card is so versatile and I’m always happy to see it.
[[Lord of pain]] just because its fun
It has quickly become my favorite rakdos commander
[[Sink into Stupor]] or [[Fell the Profane]] simply because I am a usability fan and these have made it into by far the most of my lists this year.
Instant
Return target spell or nonland permanent an opponent controls to its owner's hand.
The kami help travelers find profound relief, by freeing them from their mortal concerns.

As Soporific Springs enters, you may pay 3 life. If you don't, it enters tapped.

Desperate travelers journey from across Kamigawa, drawn by rumors of relief from all their troubles.
Instant
Destroy target creature or planeswalker.
"I can think of no fate more fitting for one so foul as you." —Aryel, knight of Windgrace

"The Nethermire is all the salvation you deserve." —Aryel, knight of Windgrace
Yea there's a good case to be made for most of the mono-color MDFC's from MH3, with those two being the absolute best of the bunch.
Witch Enchanter, Boggart Trawler and Pinnacle Monk have all been good for me too.
And from the tapped two-color ones, waterlogged teachings and strength of the harvest have done bits as well.
[[sire of seven deaths]]
fits well in literally any deck
It's a late game threat that costs colorless and has strong evasion and blocking. About the only decks that can't use it well are specific typal decks, extremely commander-centric decks, and [[lurrus]] companion
Legendary Creature — Cat Nightmare
Companion — Each permanent card in your starting deck has mana value 2 or less. (If this card is your chosen companion, you may put it into your hand from outside the game for
as a sorcery.)
Lifelink
Once during each of your turns, you may cast a permanent spell with mana value 2 or less from your graveyard.
3/2
[[gyruda]] companion
Legendary Creature — Demon Kraken
Companion — Your starting deck contains only cards with even mana values. (If this card is your chosen companion, you may put it into your hand from outside the game for
as a sorcery.)
When Gyruda enters, each player mills four cards. Put a creature card with an even mana value from among the milled cards onto the battlefield under your control.
6/6
or [[zirda]]
Legendary Creature — Elemental Fox
Companion — Each permanent card in your starting deck has an activated ability. (If this card is your chosen companion, you may put it into your hand from outside the game for
as a sorcery.)
Abilities you activate that aren't mana abilities cost
less to activate. This effect can't reduce the mana in that cost to less than one mana.
,
: Target creature can't block this turn.
3/3
I'd honestly consider a 7-drop to be too costly for just a vanilla dork in most of my decks. It could in theory go into them, but more often than not it would be bad for the curve and playability of the list.
*french vanilla
late response - [[prisoner's dilemma]]
Sorcery
Each opponent secretly chooses silence or snitch, then the choices are revealed. If each opponent chose silence, Prisoner's Dilemma deals 4 damage to each of them. If each opponent chose snitch, Prisoner's Dilemma deals 8 damage to each of them. Otherwise, Prisoner's Dilemma deals 12 damage to each opponent who chose silence.
Flashback

The surveil lands from MKM
Is it cheating to count 10 cards as one? Yes.
Were they the best cards of the year? Yes.
Is it a boring pick? Absolutely
