#(10-9-24) What's a deck you're excited to build, but is causing you challenges, and why?

Minigame tribal under Negan has been surprisingly awkward to build. I feel like the usual process I use to sort cards for decks is failing me, and building from a top-down mentality is not something I often do.
Frankly, I feel like I may just take a step back in thinking and run the idea under Starke of Rath instead.
Like, assembling the deck itself isn't as hard as finding the motivation to actually pull the trigger on it
I had a similar idea under [[gollum scheming]]
Legendary Creature — Halfling Horror
Whenever Gollum, Scheming Guide attacks, look at the top two cards of your library, put them back in any order, then choose land or nonland. An opponent guesses whether the top card of your library is the chosen kind. Reveal that card. If they guessed right, remove Gollum from combat. Otherwise, you draw a card and Gollum can't be blocked this turn.

It looks fun, but probably just durdles lol
Lara Croft "legends matter." I think it ends up having to be Voltron because there's a good bit of equipment and her abilities want her attacking anyhow. But I always struggle with Temur and it's just becoming an unfocused pile of cards that are expensive (both in mana and money)
He seems like he'd be a cool card to include should I stick with Negan actually
Yeah! He’s my favorite because the minigame is quick and the payoff for winning the game is nice
I’m still working on a fourth deck for the morph/disguise/cloak/manifest pod I’ve been brewing up and while I have found a commander for it, every time I go to start the brew I just lose all energy and impetus for it.
Maybe its because Tarkir revisit is coming soon so we might be getting more, maybe its because I feel like I’m forcing it too much…i dunno, just cant seem to actually build it.
I'm having a similar problem. I've been working on a list because of the manifest dread cards with Kadena and it's just.. a lot?
Coram, arwen mortal queen to name a few. I'm struggling on balancing fun with wincons.
I think a not small part of it is I’m trying to push Mardu colors when the options there for creatures in theme are…old, bad, or outdated in most cases.
Kadena and Kaust came together naturally, Zimone was an interesting challenge but workable, but this last one is a struggle
Yeah those would be. Have you looked at Missy?
I'm assuming you don't want 3 blue containing decks in the pod though
I’ve been working on a Kydele/Vial Smasher cycling reanimator deck for a while. It’s a blast, even becoming one of my favorite lists. However, I’m very much struggling to get it to the power level I want.
It’s been my problem child for quite a while now.
Thats part of it. A bigger part is just Missy can take over games in the biodome of morph-adjacent stuff.
Wait, is this like a bit of a battlebox for morph decks?
It's fitting though because mardu doesn't feel like it's a color id that would want subtlety/deception
Oh, what about just gruul?
[[yarus, roar of the old gods]]
Legendary Creature — Centaur Druid
Other creatures you control have haste.
Whenever one or more face-down creatures you control deal combat damage to a player, draw a card.
Whenever a face-down creature you control dies, return it to the battlefield face down under its owner's control if it's a permanent card, then turn it face up.

Oh! Or [[magar of the magic strings]]
Legendary Creature — Minotaur Performer

: Note the name of target instant or sorcery card in your graveyard and put it onto the battlefield face down. It's a 3/3 creature with "Whenever this creature deals combat damage to a player, you may create a copy of the card with the noted name. You may cast the copy without paying its mana cost" and "If this creature would leave the battlefield, exile it instead of putting it anywhere else."

They're face-down
I've wanted to build a [[Savra, Queen of the Golgari]] deck but with [[Lich's Mastery]] as the secret commander, but I'm facing a lot of decision paralysis for how to go about it.
Legendary Creature — Elf Shaman
Whenever you sacrifice a black creature, you may pay 2 life. If you do, each other player sacrifices a creature.
Whenever you sacrifice a green creature, you may gain 2 life.
"Nature's most raw beauty is the circle: perfect in its continuance, with no break between death and life."

At this point I am gonna spin up a thread for this in #1020353936592470147 @burnt girder
Dont want to clog up this chat too much with a different topic 😂
That sounds kind of sick, I can see where the paralysis starts though
Sorry, my brain is just all over.
Yeah the idea is essentially Golgari control that can pivot to lifegain Storm to win the game.
Savra is also great for losing life so I can use spells like [[Profane Transfusion]] to flip the totals and draw a ton off of Lich's Mastery
It'll just take a lot of work to put the right aristocrat package together to enable this.
Using Pest tokens should help a lot though since it triggers both of Savra's abilities
Been trying to work up the courage to build a rule 0 deck for years, in this case “mono-green” Golos
I've seen Golos played in mono-green devotion in Modern/Pioneer
Turning that into 100 card singleton should work, since you're guaranteed to find Nykthos or lands like [[Crystal Quarry]]
Or [[the world tree]].
This idea isn't all mine btw, I was inspired by this guy's Blex list

A video briefly describing each commander deck I personally own (in paper). Thank you to all of my subscribers for their support!

No worries! You are all good, just taking the opportunity to finally go through with what I had been intending to do for a while anyways.
That was the plan
So. One of my favorite constructed tournament decks was an Astral Slide w/u control back in the Onslaught blocks days.
No matter what I try (mono white, azorius, boros, jeskai, esper...) I am never satisfied with how a cycling deck feels in this format. I've made probably a dozen attempts over almost 20 years now, and something about it keeps feeling off, and I usually disassemble it after only a handful of games.
I mean, to be fair I also miss exalted angel being good, so maybe I'm just disillusioned by the power creep at this point? It's weird. I love the concept of a cycling deck, but I never enjoy playing it much outside of 60 card formats.
[[Toby]] blink as I am only able to understand boros blink due to my history with allies and now I am midway though paper but unsure to make the deck mine in the last 40 slots
Legendary Creature — Human Wizard
When Toby, Beastie Befriender enters, create a 4/4 white Beast creature token with "This creature can't attack or block alone."
As long as you control four or more creature tokens, creature tokens you control have flying.
"Sure, I'm pretty small, but Gribble isn't, so I don't get scared."

[[hazoret the fervent]], wanted to make her about [[expedited inheritance]] and self damage to creatures but couldn't really find a way to tie that into a well-defined package
well just remembered i got it into a more reasonable burn shell, but wish i had more ways to get inheritance into hand 😔
BOROS. Because I still am waiting for a Commander that is going to be absolutely incredible.
I've been waiting for so long and yet there still hasn't been one that's given me enough inspiration to really build em.
Titania, Protector of Argoth, ugh getting all the land matters cards is just painful. They are spread over so many sets and dont get reprints enough to cheap them out.
Voltron Juri with some artifact related shenanigans. I'm just restricted by card knowledge so I have to really research more but its pretty daunting.
I struggle to build a Bant and Grixis decks : I didn't find yet a commander or a non-wheel theme to build something around. I have also issues with [[Feather, the redeemed]], [[Thalisse]], [[Alana and Halena, Partners]] ... I wanted at first to build a deck of each bicolor and tricolor combinaisons but its conclusions is still far away ...
Gev, Scaled Scorch because I can’t find my happy medium of focusing on Lizards, Outlaws and Noncombat Damage
[[gev scorch]]
[[Archimandrite]] teacher typal is my constant deck-in-progress. The idea of the deck is legendary artificers et al (the faculty) searching the gym closet for equipment, but I’ve had a hard time getting the right balance of creatures for a typal deck and artifacts/equipment to make the deck really hum.
Legendary Creature — Human Advisor
At the beginning of your upkeep, you gain X life, where X is the number of cards in your hand minus 4.
Whenever you gain life, each Advisor, Artificer, and Monk you control gains vigilance and gets +X/+0 until end of turn, where X is the amount of life you gained.
Tap three untapped Advisors, Artificers, and/or Monks you control: Draw a card.

[[Shu-Yun, the Silent Tempest]] is just beating me every time I sit down to build it as a spellslinger.
Currently brainstorming a [[Flubs]] deck based around gathering the 22 Major Arcana. I just can't seem to find the right cards to represent the Arcana. I've got... maybe 10 of 'em down, but the others are eluding me.
This is a project I could get on board with. Three color makes it a challenge, but post your current list in #1020353936592470147!
I dont think it counts because I finished it but I built a [[Momir Vig]] deck that has a combo where I play fourty one ones and it legit took like 4 hours over 2 days of searching to find the combo pieces I needed to make the deck be able to do the combo I wanted it to
Multiple cards match “Momir”, can you be more specific?
[[Momir Vig, Simic Visionary]]
Legendary Creature — Elf Wizard
Whenever you cast a green creature spell, you may search your library for a creature card, reveal it, then shuffle and put that card on top.
Whenever you cast a blue creature spell, reveal the top card of your library. If it's a creature card, put that card into your hand.
