#Looking for tips on Narset, Enlightened Exile - I'm a Jeskai noob and have no idea what I'm doing

Hi all,

Pulled Narset tonight (got a MAT collector pack on a whim, dumb yes I know) and figured why not build her?

Now, the issue with that is I've never played Jeskai in any format ever. Maybe once in a draft? (but that doesn't really count, does it?) So, I've got no clue what I'm doing. I put a list together https://www.moxfield.com/decks/600EvVObXUyvqdxT1O7mrA which I think is probably ok, but I'd love it if someone could look it over and suggest anything at all.

Thanks in advance!

(manabase, if not clear, is bigtime WIP btw but I got that so dw)

Mizzium tank is just a 3 mana 3/2 noncreature spell with prowess

#

Not too powerful for what you’re trying to do

#

God-eternal oketra is doing the opposite of what your deck wants to do, which is cast noncreature spells

#

Just about any cantrip or otherwise noncreature draw spells would be better than prophetic flamespeaker

#

Swiftblade vindicator out, [[young pyromancer]] in

Nvm she’s already in the deck, do [[metallurgic summonings]]

How do you win with bomberman combo? Doesn’t seem like it does much considering you’re not casting the LED from your grave to trigger prowess

#

When it comes to jeskai they’re very good at noncreature spells, and it’s tempting to add in pet cards/fun cards but when your deck’s theme is noncreature spells, adding stuff that doesn’t work with that or around it feels extremely clunky and low impact

#

Unless you care about enchantments to some degree, I’d say oblivion ring out and [[generous gift]] in

#

I’m definitely biased here but Raise the alarm out and [[recruit the worthy]] in

Having a couple ways to ad Infinitum cast a noncreature spell is always nice to have, especially when it gives you bodies to win with narset

#

I know it’s 4x the rate of bodies so that’s your choice on this one

lot to break down here

#

agree on mizzium tank sadly, I just like the card (it's first on the chopping block); agree on oketra too but I figured I had enough creatures in the list and double strike is very strong with prowess

#

prophetic flamespeaker has been good in the couple test games I've gotten with the deck and I've been looking for a home for that card for 10 years; I'm unlikely to cut that fellow

#

haven't encountered vindicator but I'd have expected it to be good for the same reason flamespeaker has been; double strike + trample + prowess is a nice set of keywords, open to cutting that though

#

metallurgic summonings seems slow and low impact to me - shark typhoon is there since it's also able to be cycled for an emergency blocker, not sure summonings does anything other than a 5 mana enchantment that makes a 1/1 or two every turn

#

I'd probably rather slot in my spare cathars' crusade in that slot ngl

conjurer's bauble is a bit of grave recursion and a cantrip itself, and if it's in the bin when I start bombermanning I draw my deck

ok I think that's everything covered?

[[auriok salvagers]]

Oh grave to hand I thought it was to field

My b

hmm wasn't sure about the activated ability either but that's good to know

#

I'll keep that in mind then

that's fair

I've never played spellslinger before this but have been playing mtg for upwards of 10 years at the very least so 4 mana 1/1s just set off my "don't play this" meter lol

compact gust
#

Right haha

#

I will say, cost reduction does apply to the buyback

modest viper
#

I'm realizing I should probably pick up another copy of cyclonic rift and shove it in here

compact gust
#

So if you run a decent suite of cost reducers they become quite potent

compact gust
modest viper
#

yeah, avoided it because wallet

#

but

#

man

#

what a card

Since you're in a token strategy, [[Perplexing Test]] isn't bad

true scarabBOT

#

If you're in full bomberman levels though then yes, do rift :p

#

I'm still working on my list but, [[Synthesis Pod]] has seemed really interesting in the context of this Narset. Since you control a spell you've exiled and then cast from an opponent's graveyard.

And can get you an additional prowess trigger.

fresh sorrel
compact gust
#

Right, that’s why I thought it wouldn’t work

fresh sorrel
#

It's a card that not many people were interested in because it exiled a spell you included in your deck for a reason. Exiling a card an opponent included though?

modest viper
#

also, like, the ability to cast a weird copy out of the bin and then get rid of it for value is enticing

compact gust
#

Imagine free casting a force of will and rummaging through an opponents deck for a 1{P/U} 6 drop instant/sorcery instead

#

That’d be neat

fresh sorrel
#

You can't cast a FoW without another spell on the stack

compact gust
#

Yea, just do it in response to someone else doing something, idk I was just dreaming up shenanigans

fresh sorrel
#

So, you cast the noncreature card with Narset's trigger when you select it.

#

So it doesn't hold in exile

#

One of the funniest things I've done on arena is 0'ing out the [[Wandering Emperor]] and casting it with the attack trigger

As long as The Wandering Emperor entered the battlefield this turn, you may activate her loyalty abilities any time you could cast an instant.
