I want to build a deck for [[Alrund, God of the Cosmos]], and I want to make the most out of him and Hakka as possible.
I'm aware about putting some things in already, such as stuff for no max hand size, and Sensei's Divining Top, Scroll Rack, and The Reality Chip/Future Sight to look at the top of my deck and make Alrund's 2nd ability better.
But I'm looking to suggestions for quite a few other things:

  • Ways to draw LOTs of cards at once
  • Ways to value off of drawing cards
  • Scry support for Hakka
  • Etc.
Feel free to let me know what you have

Legendary Creature — God
Alrund gets +1/+1 for each card in your hand and each foretold card you own in exile.
At the beginning of your end step, choose a card type, then reveal the top two cards of your library. Put all cards of the chosen type revealed this way into your hand and the rest on the bottom of your library in any order.
1/1

Hakka, Whispering Raven mana1manau
Legendary Creature — Bird
Flying
Whenever Hakka, Whispering Raven deals combat damage to a player, return it to its owner's hand, then scry 2.
Alrund's raven soars between realms; no secret is beyond his grasp.

[Alrund+Hakka] Mono-U Draw Deck Suggestions

#

I'm not trying to make this a Voltron deck like some other lists, more using Alrund as a payoff/secondary draw engine for a more midrange/control style deck

#

I think some evasion like Rogue's Passage makes sense though

#

Or [[Whispersilk Cloak]] as well for protection and evasion

[[Jace, the Mind Sculptor]] with Alrund in play effectively draws me 3 cards each turn with his Brainstorm each turn, so much like Top and Scroll Rack, he's a must have also

Legendary Planeswalker — Jace
+2: Look at the top card of target player's library. You may put that card on the bottom of that player's library.
0: Draw three cards, then put two cards from your hand on top of your library in any order.
−1: Return target creature to its owner's hand.
−12: Exile all cards from target player's library, then that player shuffles their hand into their library.

[[Finale of Revelation]], [[Even the Score]], and [[Blue Sun's Zenith]] are prolly the best draw X spells

#

For drawing many many cards

#

[[Soothsaying]] is a very niche option, but could do the trick

fervent bladeBOT
nocturne tusk
#

Ooh yes, Soothsaying is great

#

Even just paying 2-3 mana to look at what's on top is really helpful for Alrund to draw them

echo swan
#

Mhm

nocturne tusk
#

Not as good as Top but I want as many pieces like this as I can

#

As for creatures
Yes I have a Consecrated Sphinx lol

echo swan
#

Serum Visions is a pretty easy pick

#

[[Cavalier of Gales]] is another Brainstorm

fervent bladeBOT
nocturne tusk
#

Ah yeah nice

#

There's quite a few creatures with power/toughness equal to hand size, but the ones I like specifically are [[Kefnet, the Mindful]] [[Soramaro]] and [[Body of Knowledge]]

fervent bladeBOT
#

Multiple cards match “Soramaro”, can you be more specific?

nocturne tusk
#

[[Soramaro, First to Dream]]

fervent bladeBOT
nocturne tusk
#

Kefnet and Soramaro can bounce Mystic Sanctuary for recursion every turn

#

like infinite turns with Time Warp

echo swan
#

[[Mission Briefing]] is cool and underrated, with synergy

fervent bladeBOT
nocturne tusk
#

Though that does cost quite a bit

#

I think this deck will need a lot of ramp to take advantage of all the drawing too

#

That's a nice one too

nocturne tusk
#

Blue Sun's Zenith is one I have as well

#

I got some other stuff tho, noteworthy ones for this are [[Chasm Skulker]] [[Aeon Chronicler]] [[Alhammarret's Archive]] [[Lab Maniac]] etc.

fervent bladeBOT
nocturne tusk
#

Also Enter the Infinite and Day's Undoing

#

Dunno if they're coming in, I just like them lol

#

But the others are for sure

#

I have Teferi's Ageless Insight to pair with Archive as well

nocturne tusk
#

Just went through my collection and i have a ton of blue cards I want to consider

#

Might start building Alrund over the weekend

#

Once I have an initial list it'll be easier for me to figure out where to go from here

#

[Alrund+Hakka] Mono-U Draw Deck Brewing

#

I've got a copy of [[Nadir Kraken]] from the Kamiz precon
I forgot Chasm Skulker came in that too, so now I've got two lol

fervent bladeBOT
nocturne tusk
#

But it means I've got the Tentacle and Squid tokens so that's great

echo swan
#

Oh, uh [[Psychosis Crawler]] is another good one

fervent bladeBOT
nocturne tusk
#

Ooh yes I have a copy

#

Glad you mentioned it

nocturne tusk
#

Haven't bothered to figure out lands yet lol, but this will do for now

#

So far to me it feels... Off

#

I don't think I have enough card draw

#

Or at least im not find it in sample hands

#

I do find some good hands but otherwise it feels like I'm just not doing much

#

Actually, I've been getting a better feel for it with some goldfishing

nocturne tusk
#

There's quite a few cards that Im missing for my deck :/

#

I want more Future Sight effects than just Reality Chip

#

And other effects to fix the top of my library

#

So I'll start looking to get those with my next order

nocturne tusk
#

Finished my order for the week.
There's some stuff my store didn't have, mainly some of the foretell cards (Ravenform, Spectral Deluge, Behold the Multiverse)
But now I think my deck is shaping up a bit more like how I want it to

#

For now though Im not changing the decklist around to account for my order. Im getting used to how the deck plays rn

nocturne tusk
#

Something I kinda like that I got was [[Jace, Mirror Mage]]

fervent bladeBOT
#

Legendary Planeswalker — Jace
Kicker mana2
When Jace, Mirror Mage enters the battlefield, if Jace was kicked, create a token that's a copy of Jace, Mirror Mage, except it's not legendary and its starting loyalty is 1.
+1: Scry 2.
0: Draw a card and reveal it. Remove a number of loyalty counters equal to that card's mana value from Jace, Mirror Mage.
Loyalty: 4

nocturne tusk
#

Mind Sculptor is way too expensive for me rn, so this Jace feels like a good substitute, just for the topdecking

#

I ordered two copies for the kicker effect itreallydobelikethat

#

I also got [[Mordenkainen]] + his dog token

fervent bladeBOT
#

Legendary Planeswalker — Mordenkainen
+2: Draw two cards, then put a card from your hand on the bottom of your library.
−2: Create a blue Dog Illusion creature token with "This creature's power and toughness are each equal to twice the number of cards in your hand."
−10: Exchange your hand and library, then shuffle. You get an emblem with "You have no maximum hand size."
Loyalty: 5

#

Im actually beginning to enjoy the deck so far

#

I feel like I might want more ramp, since there's a lot of big spells I want to play.

#

But other than that I think it's working just fine ATM

#

This will help a lot for figuring out what to put in from my order

#

I think the biggest thing is definitely topdecking effects, Alrund's 2nd ability isnt good without them, but with them it's basically draw 2 cards each turn, which is dope

#

As long as I can keep that online, plus maybe some other things like Rhystic on top of that, my card draw is pretty good

#

So yeah, I'm gonna experiment with ramp

nocturne tusk
#

I've thought about the Alchemy version of Alrund as like, objectively better than paper Alrund.
His 2nd ability reveals THREE cards instead of two, which potentially draws you 3 cards each turn

#

But I also don't like his forced bottoming of cards, and with 3 cards revealed, the chances of drawing 3 cards is low enough that you're bound to miss out on cards even if you could get lucky

#

So I think that paper Alrund just comes with a better gameplay feeling.

#

Even if it's technically less good

#

Plus it's still up to 2 cards each turn, that's really great, plenty enough to refill your hand

nocturne tusk
#

After playing with Alrund for a few days now, I can safely say that I'm enjoying this deck more than I did with Vendilion Clique.

#

Actually having creatures to play to defend myself does a ton for me to stay in a game, especially when they reward me for drawing cards and using the top of my library also

#

When Alrund starts giving me 2 cards each turn, he's really good. Makes all my cantrips better since they let me see what's on top, and gives me a big threat that I can give evasion to. Having Hakka to play right away, or when Alrund gets expensive to recast from the zone, is a solid bonus also.

#

And now I should be getting my order today, so I'll update my list and share it here soon

I like Trinket Mage in this deck.
It tutors for:

  • Fast mana for ramp to play Alrund quicker
  • Sensei's Divining Top to get more cards off of Alrund
  • Shadowspear for lifelink+trample on Alrund or other big creatures
