#General deckbuilding Q&A and Short Discussion
1 messages · Page 13 of 1
Spellpierce, Swan Song, Offer You Can't Refuse are all 1 mana options with their own ups and downs.
Running 2 mana ones gets tricky, but Negate is neat way to stop a Farewell or Austere Command.
(Or, [[Three Steps Ahead]] if you prefer a modal option)
So switching from 4-6 Counterspell to 6-8 at the expense of 2 U Sweepers isn't ideal?
I was thinking more counterspells would be better since it answers anything.
Opp boardwipes me, I counterspell
Opp uses Craterhoof, I counterspell
Opp destroys my Garruk Uprising, I counterspell
Well... yes, if you're willing and able to keep 2+ mana open without harming your gameplan.
Then there's quite a few counters that hit anything
I’m looking to upgrade my Da Vinci deck, which of the cards in “considering” would be best?
https://moxfield.com/decks/XVm0fdKmcEehTp6x5AXwiw
I did some goldfishing for my Gandalf the White deck, which is my first EDH deck. Over 20 sampled starting hands, I got acceptable hand 61% of the time with one mulligan and 83% of the time with two mulligans, taking into account dropping a card. Should I be concerned by these numbers?
20 samples is a little low, but why are your starting hands a coinflip?
I can get more samples. I am basically looking for three lands with draw, ramp, or mana rocks.
So if you're able to tag your deck by type you can use that data to feed a hypergeometric calculator to estimate the quality of your opening hands without needing to sample at all.
I think you might be light on mana sources and acceleration if you're failing to draw any in >40% of samples after a mulligan
How's your deck's curve?
How many lands are you running?
Typically, until your deck is very tuned, you'll want to be between 35-45 lands.
(higher on land count if you are a deck that runs play multiple lands per turn.)
About 39-42 is usually the sweet spot unless your curve is very aggressive or you have ways to cheat mana value
And landfall decks sometimes go extremely high on land count
Agreed. I typically run minimum 37 lands
Here is my curve.
I am on the low side of lands, then. I'm currently at 30.
far too few at 30.
Oh yeah for sure. Landfalls are like free arcane signets
missed land drops hurt you a lot. I'd rather mana flood than be stuck drawing no lands
If you're not hitting lands while your deck is doing its early 'unpack', you're basically giving everyone else an extra turn
I'd go up 10 lands, and then add stuff back only if you find you're always a little flooded by turn 6.
dont forget the utility lands too.
[[diamond city]] is one I put into a lot of commander decks recently due to it's cheap price and useful effect.
If you've got really high card draw and ramp density, you can sometimes cut back on lands a bit.
But those last 10 lands I usually fill with miscellaneous taplands that have extra benefits, or with MDFCs (the two sided lands where one is a spell)
Which commander are you brewing?
(or better yet share the decklist link if you wish to do so?)
That is the case, I think. I have 15 two mana or less draw cards and 7 two mana or less ramp cards in addition to Basalt Monilith.
Oh, you're all-in on artifacts and monowhite. Go up 5 lands and then test again. You do still need a high land density to guarantee enough gas to start, but you've got a bunch of combo pieces so you just need consistency for the first few turns.
Since you're so heavily in low mv combos, I'd maybe suggest cutting taplands unless they have crucial side-effects (in which case, count them as spells)
Like I can't picture wanting to use Ishgard as a tapland unless your starting hand is very bad for these strategies. So I would count it maybe as a spell instead of land.
That is the only tapland that I have.
Cool, I'd still suggest going up around 5 lands. Right now it looks like the hand averages around 1.7 lands
If you go up 5 plains, you'll be around 2.3ish
Count lotus petal towards your land slots though
Nice
That was the number when I computed the stats.
That gave me 61% one mulligan acceptance and 82% two mulligan acceptance over 40 trials.
Finding cards to drop has been difficult for me.
Yeah, 61% and 82% are a little bit on the low end if you're trying to combo off. Might be 2 or 3 lands off the sweet spot right now
But do remember to count your early ramp like petal and sol ring as lands while calculating
I took that into account when deciding on whether to accept a hand. I was looking for two lands and heavy ramp and some draw or three lands with light ramp and some draw.
Thanks for the advice.
Would you recommend keeping Ishgard?
I think so, I just think that using it for the land side will usually slow you down a turn. So I'd be expecting it to be a 5mv spell in a lot of hands
It's a reasonably good backup if you lose combo pieces
And it 'hits' on like 90% of your deck 😄
I dropped [[White Auracite]] for [[High Market]].
Btw, are you measuring success by first 7, or first 8 cards?
First seven
First eight might have a higher acceptance rate.
Ah, gotcha. First 8 should be measured for multiplayer metas. If your opening hand has a sequence to draw a card, you can add one more to that trial (probably maxing at 9 cards 'seen' by your starting line)
Because in multiplayer games, everyone effectively has a starting hand of 8. In 1v1, the starting 7 matters because being on the play is a bigger advantage
I do not get the details of the difference. I am new.
I am just a madman that is building this wacky deck as my first commander deck.
Ah, okay. So in 1v1, the two players draw a hand of 7. Then the first player begins without drawing, but the second player gets an 8th starting card. Most 1v1 decks want to play first.
But in multiplayer (3+ players), the first player draws first because their starting advantage is reduced.
So to goldfish for commander, you should collect statistics on the first 8 cards your deck will draw.
That is good to know. Thanks!
This is likely why, rather than 40-42 lands (based on deck analytics from 60 card formats), most experienced EDH players suggest 37-39 feels anecdotally better
A lot of the Gandalf the White decks that I have seen are running fewer lands, but that is probably because they play the really expensive ramp cards.
Absolutely. If they can always start with a Lotus Petal, Ancient Tomb, or Mishra's Workshop, they will happily cut a couple other lands
Moxen are also quite popular for early ramp and artifact synergy:
https://scryfall.com/search?q=mox+f%3Aedh+game%3Apaper
The decks that I saw averaged 27.4 lands with those cards. I know that I need to run more lands than that, just not how much more.
Yeah, moxen can potentially ramp 2 (the affinity keyword) on turn 1 and are effectively lands without the land type
That kind of ramp makes it possible to cut 3-7ish lands so the opening hand is about 1 land less on average
So without them, you do need to be a bit on the higher land count side
Back to trying to find cards to cut for lands.
Are there cheap ramp alternatives that you'd recommend over adding more lands?
Honestly, I don't play artifacts or monowhite much so I'm not totally sure. And the metas I play in are a little slower (bracket 2, sometimes 3), so stuff I'd normally suggest isn't on par with the ones you're already using, or they're the expensive classics (like Mishra's Workshop and Ancient Tomb)
Archaeomancer's Map and Deep-Gnome Terramancer are the ones I'd normally suggest
Archaeomancer's Map sees play in even some high-end Gandalf decks.
With Gandalf on the board, you get to draw four lands.
Also, I am not looking to play in tournaments or anything, so I do not feel the need to grab the best options of everything.
I was going to go for a Bracket 3 deck, but the play group that got me into the game told me to go for Bracket 4.
For sure, follow their suit. That way even if your deck's a bit janky, you'll still have fun playing with them
Thoughts on [[Obsidian Obelisk]]?
Oh lol, I guess if you're starved for 2mv mana rocks, or trying to upgrade a vanilla 3mv one
I'm already running [[Thought Vessel]], [[Mind Stone]], and [[Liquimetal Torque]].
There's a lot of options: https://scryfall.com/search?q=t%3Aartifact+otag%3Amana-rock+mv%3D2+commander%3Aw+f%3Aedh+game%3Apaper
Fellwar Stone's a classic
That is, indeed, better than the obelisk.
Maybe I should add that.
I'm potentially looking at [[Jeweled Amulet]].
The deck does not have a lot of great one cost cards, so this would work as a turn one play. It also allows for some Ironworks shenanigans, being zero mana.
Just need a few tips for this deck plz
Thanks for your help! The addition of one more land and two more ramp sources did the trick.
Awesome, glad it was such a slim margin to get it working consistently
Over 60 goldfished openings, the deck averaged getting Gandalf out in 4.2 turns. That was with an average of 0.7 mulligans.
Nice, brought it down by a mulligan
Hey! I'm currently working on a jabari list and was wondering if the landbase is good? https://moxfield.com/decks/caFdfT1tn0aX83qgbgwJ3g
IMO you’re looking just fine
Thanks!
Wow its been awhile since I’ve been here. So I… uhh, got the Worldseed precon and did a lot of updates to it and now I need help adding cards like Crucible of Worlds and Reprocess.
can someone help me why does my queen marchesa deck keep losing?
Long May She Reign! :crown:
What bracket and power level are you playing at, and against what kinds of commanders?
You've got reasonably good card quality, but I don't see much (aside from maybe Arabella) that screams "wincon"
You've got Akroma's Will, which is good. But you're quite light on ways to turn tokens into a win. [[Moonshaker Cavalry]] and [[On Wings of Gold]] would help.
Impact Tremors is a good choice. I'd suggest removing Windcrag Siege and replacing with [[Warleader's Call]]
What attacking abilities are you duplicating with Isshin and Windcrag Siege?
I think Generous Gift is quite weak in these colours. You're in [[Anguished Unmaking]] colours
I'd suggest [[Gruesome Fate]] as a potential finisher
Anyone have any ways to cheat a creature from your library onto the battlefield with haste, in esper colours? Currently I'm surveiling with Consider and reanimating with [[Corpse Dance]] but looking for anything that could manage that in one card. Or just any alternative methods
Unless you're doing Panglacial Worm shenanigans, [[Zirilan of the Claw]] might be the only tutor to battlefield card that gives haste in the entire game. They don't make MtG cards like they make Yu-Gi-Oh cards
So you're basically looking for [[Buried Alive]] and any reanimation spell that gives haste
I dont need a tutor per se
I'm creating a doomsday pile of sorts with [[mirror of fate]]
And need to get [[hellcarver demon]] attacking to cast the rest of the pile
And like I mentioned I have the pitch to graveyard->haste reanimate line just looking to see if there's anything more compact. Trying to squeeze an extra card into my pile lol
How are you filling your exile zone?
This seems about as Rube Goldbergy as [[Harness Infinity]]
Variety of options, [[demonic consultation]], [[thought lash]] for example
Enchantment
Cumulative upkeep—Exile the top card of your library. (At the beginning of your upkeep, put an age counter on this permanent, then sacrifice it unless you pay its upkeep cost for each age counter on it.)
When a player doesn't pay this enchantment's cumulative upkeep, that player exiles all cards from their library.
Exile the top card of your library: Prevent the next 1 damage that would be dealt to you this turn.
oh also [[Selective Memory]]
pretty funny way to get everything exiled
anyways I found an answer
had a card in the pile I didn't actually need
it is indeed that rube goldbergy
I had silence in there but shouldnt be needed with teferi's
won last night with an extra turn on t9 but wanted to use teferi's instead as it's funnier
So why do people put more non basic lands than basic lands in there deck?
Usually because they’ve got a mana base full of strong utility lands, fast mana and dual lands
Which basics aren’t quite as strong as usually
Something that can tap for multiple different colors is stronger than something that can’t
Why on archidekt is slicer hired muscle a finisher card?
Mostly as the commander, getting it out early leads to a short game
How many Typed lands would you run if your only watch to fetch them is Nature's Lore and Three Visits + 1 fetch? https://archidekt.com/decks/1712591/here_come_the_runts
Considering if it's worth it to slot in the new Vernal Fen/Festering Thicket into the deck.
Chatterfang, Squirrel General - Commander deck
(1) Commander • (2) Anthem • (7) Drain • (9) Draw • (3) Finisher • (34) Land • (3) Protection • (17) Ramp • (8) Removal • (2) Sac Outlet • (14) Tokens
Create Squirrels, Buff Squirrels, Kill Squirrels, it's Squirrels all the way down
WinCons are both from overwhelming opponen...
Depends how likely you are to owe the Moon tax
And Path or Trophy become a freebie if you have no basics. Settle the Wreckage blows you out if you don't have 5 or 6 lands
So I would suggest something like 5-10 basics
i got a gift card from this place that only has murders of karlov march of the machines and the starter precons which deck should i get
what creatures should i cut
What’s the commander?
Caesar
There’s should and then there’s can, are you wanting to lower the amount of creatures to fit in other cards or are you looking for anything that doesn’t really help the deck?
Im just looking to focus up the deck a bit more
https://moxfield.com/decks/pMup2QycwEO8-z3ohvBOrA
So far people have told me to remove
Esper Sentinel (why?)
Braids
Elesh norn
Neyali
Loyal apprentice
Witty roast master
Krenko street kingpin
Don’t remove esper sentinel
Even if they are they should know how strong esper sentinel is
its kinda weak in low power
Braids though, you probably want to be doubling down on anything that makes you a token
people dont play many noncreature and they will pay the 1 np
Hah, not at my tables
We don’t pay taxes and get nuked because of it
Loyal apprentice is neat burn, but if you make enough tokens Caesar can kill without worrying about incremental burn
"weak in low power" is a strange thing to read out of context
I did preface it with kinda
In my pod
That and archivist of oghma both draw me very few cards
It’s not wrong though
whats a good cut here at 101 cards
Probably city on fire
Is this card good in every white deck even ones that dont have a lot of etbs
It’s best in decks that leverage both of its strengths
Its ok, but it mostly draws hate and gets removed
You really want to be in a deck with extra etbs to leverage its strengths
Does anyone have any quick advice for a Black Wizard No.3 deck? Despite someone’s best efforts I still enjoy magic and want to make a deck they’ll enjoy fighting cause they dislike a lot of what I usually do
@rotund forge maybe you can help us out? I know you’ve brewed a lot of decks
So, I have some questions about your list.
What are your goals for it in terms of performance? How fast do you want it to win, etc.? What is it playing against?
It’s my first time building a deck designed for what it wants to do (I think the usual term is spellslinger), so I’m definitely open to feedback
I don’t need it to be a T4 win or anything absolutely absurd like that, something ~bracket 3 is good
OK
I’m not sure how to describe what it’s playing against since even outside of an lgs my playgroup has a lot of decks
When I did a theory craft for it I ended up b4 because I was going for an [[underworld breach]] list
One thing to know is that infect works
I think you do want harmonic prodigy in here more than the flame painter
Yeah that makes sense, hp would do more for the deck
I built mine as a general storm list with like [[tendrils of agony]]
Oh that’s a great card
Goblin sharpshooter doesn't seem to be doing a ton here
Oh yeah this would be a good win con for ya Mika! You’ve seen Prosper pop off into it, haven’t ye?
It’s there because I play against token decks a fair bit, but it’s definitely a weak card for the general strategy I want this deck to go for
…it’s murked me through Solitary confinement so yes
It couldnt have been that, i think it was my pingers that hit each opponent
If those pingers went off because of it then my sentence still makes sense
And even it it wasn’t that the fun part of the English language is that “it” could be the prosper deck itself rather than Tendrils
Thanks for the suggestion, I definitely wanted something that could help me get a win if I didn’t have my commander out
I don’t mean to be monopolizing the thread though, should I make a post on #1020353936592470147?
Go for it! Sorry I had to step away because needed to work on dinner
I just bought the scene set [[Aragorn, Hornburg Hero]] b/c I wanted to take apart my Anzrag deck as the deck is very clunky! I'm just not sure where I want to take the deck, I thought about adding some Mobilize, but their is not enough cards for that. So I'm a little lost on where to go from here!
Legendary Creature — Human Soldier
Attacking creatures you control have first strike and renown 1. (When a creature with renown 1 deals combat damage to a player, if it isn't renowned, put a +1/+1 counter on it and it becomes renowned.)
Whenever a renowned creature you control deals combat damage to a player, double the number of +1/+1 counters on it.
4/4
What would be a good commander for a color hate deck? Like, a deck based around using cards like [[painter's servant]] and [[virtue's ruin]] that are normally situational in conjunction to be actually effective.
Black and white have most of the cruelest color hosers
So something in that ballpark probably
painter‘s servant goes infinite very easily with [[teysa orzhov scion]] or replace painter with [[darkest hour]] is even cheaper:)
!!! I just realized my original concept for [[River Song]] might actually be easier to do now.
Legendary Creature — Human Time Lord Rogue
Meet in Reverse — You draw cards from the bottom of your library rather than the top.
Spoilers — Whenever an opponent scries, surveils, or searches their library, put a +1/+1 counter on River Song. Then River Song deals damage to that player equal to its power.
2/2
I had wanted to do something akin to half cards from standard and half cards from the earliest days of magic, with the standard half having to change at every rotation.
Foundations being semistable makes that require fewer updates to stay on theme.
oh, that sounds really neat!
actually creative theme deck
Hello guys, what do you think of a Simic planeswalker deck with Tamiyo as a commander? The alternative would be a Bant with [[Morska, Undersea Sleuth]], but in any case it will have obviously proliferate, value planeswalker and those creatures that put counters on themselves or make tokens when you draw cards. The problem I see is that it maybe would have too many mechanics
Hello im wanting to add some of these cards into my deck is there anything i should take out for one of these?
https://moxfield.com/decks/pMup2QycwEO8-z3ohvBOrA
ANyone who will listen or help, I have taken apart my Tinybones, Bauble Burglar deck for Kefka and trying to make a discard deck with the previous build.
Its a rough sketch of what I am looking for, I don't play these colors very often so I am struggling a lot
id like suggestion on this bello deck https://moxfield.com/decks/_ZeOWWNrlE27tNtKFotvtw
been brewing for a while form a primer and want suggestion
Are there any near-infinite mana combos in Rakdos?
You've got red and black, both of which can do rituals and resurrection very well.
- Gravecrawler, Phyrexian Altar, any zombie, and Pitiless Plunderer
- Grinning Ignus, Birgi, and Ruby Medallion
- Reiterate, basically any mana ritual, and Storm-Kiln Artist (if the ritual is Dark Ritual)
Dualcaster goes infinite with a ham sandwich
…I know all those cards, why didn’t I remember any of them lol
Thanks!
Oh lol, no worries. Combos aren't easy to deckbuild on short notice. Some of them I know because I've played against them.
I guess Grave Crawler, Soul Warden, and Pitiless Plunderer is another one if you don't want an Altar and wanna be 3 pieces instead of 4
And when you drop known combo pieces like this, they'll probably be immediate targets
It’s for [[Fire Lord Ozai]], if I’m getting an infinite mana combo off I’m supposed to win right there
Legendary Creature — Human Noble
Whenever Fire Lord Ozai attacks, you may sacrifice another creature. If you do, add an amount of
equal to the sacrificed creature's power. Until end of combat, you don't lose this mana as steps end.
: Exile the top card of each opponent's library. Until end of turn, you may play one of those cards without paying its mana cost.
4/4
I just wasn’t sure on what mana combos would be good for the deck (and what existed)
New to magic and making a noctis deck on tight budget(university student). Lmk how it looks and things i can adjust. https://moxfield.com/decks/CoRO586VeE2WYhAUcCTYBg
Are you aiming for a specific power level or strategy?
(By default I usually assume bracket 3 types of decks)
Do I need an infinite combo in my deck?
“Need” vs “want” are different things
And I'm asking if I need one
no
…no. Not a single deck “needs” an infinite in order to work
Anyone who puts one in is using it because that’s how they want to play the deck
My deck works fine without ATM but I've been seeing these mtg skits were these guys get infinite combos on like turn 5
there are a lot of different power levels people play commander at
if youre happy where you're at that's all that matters
I wouldn’t build off of skits
This combo that I'm trying to build is pretty hard to set up but I'm seeing if it works or something idk I'm still trying to figure it out in live time
I have a deck like that
basically its exiling 7 combo pieces and then assembling a stack that wins the game with [[mirror of fate]]
I dont play it too much though, I don't think it's too interactive for everyone else at the table lol
Is there any like good combo with mirror style master, flame rush rider or flame shadow conjuring?
https://moxfield.com/decks/6ELIqoSXxkmbMqU6_VFMyQ
Trying to pare down a list for a Jetmir deck I haven't touched in a year or two. Rough strategy is gradual tokens with resiliency tricks to keep the train rolling. Side wincon involving table-wide pingers like Purphoros, Weftstalker Ardent, etc. Aiming for bracket 3/4ish, budgets aren't an issue.
Anyone see any cards that seriously underperform, or might not suit the strategy?
how does copying enduring scalelord create an infinite combo
If you can make the clone come in with a one one counter, they will both add infinite counters to each other
Eg [[spark double]]
#1020353936592470147 making a thread there can help you get sustainably long help
How much artifact removal should I play?
Depends on so many things, like local meta
generally I dont run much if any dedicated artifact removal, but instead a few generic removal spells like [[unexplained absence]]
Instant
For each player, exile up to one target nonland permanent that player controls. For each permanent exiled this way, its controller cloaks the top card of their library. (To cloak a card, put it onto the battlefield face down as a 2/2 creature with ward
. Turn it face up any time for its mana cost if it's a creature card.)
my minimum is usually 1 board wipe that can hit artifacts/enchantments and 2-4 targetted options. Can easily run more though if meta demands it or colours/plan support it
So you play 2-4 removal?
2-4 targetted removal that can hit artifacts yeah
additional removal for creatures
How much removal for creatures?
Ok
How many mana rocks should I play?
That depends on the deck
Well jeskai striker runs like 7 even tho it's a instant and sorcery Deck
my 3cmc instant focused [[yshtola, night's blessed] deck runs 14 ramp spells
I also have other decks that have a very cheap curve that run none
is there any cards in GW that let me return things from my hand to my library?
[[Leashling]]?
That’s the only one I’ve seen with that effect
theres a 3cmc enchantment lemme find it
I wanna say [[penance]]?
YEAAAH baby I love this thing
I don't have any dedicated Bracket 2 decks, so I'm trying to brew one up now. Obviously no game changers, but specific hard rules aside, any guidelines on how much punch one of these should have compared to Bracket 3?
is there any cards that return attractions to my attraction deck?
either from the battlefield or from the junkyard
(that are legal in commander)
As always it depends a bit on how skilled your groups are. Bracket 2 doesn't necessarily mean weak, it just means none of the cards that warp the meta and none of the early wincons.
I think if you aim for something a little beginner friendly with potential to take off, that's a good target for bracket 2's meta. This is a budget deck I've used in a lot of beginner matches with my home pod:
https://moxfield.com/decks/sTbzErifWEqEdbz4D8MJVg
It's focused on using Widow of the Realm's front face to deal 10+ lifelink damage a turn, and pressure everyone to reduce my life total fast. Aside from a couple intentionally weaker wipes and removal (it's for beginner matches), it seems to play nicely and I've got the option to flip Ayara early if someone's got a lead and I need to start a beat down.
So you can see some stuff I swapped in for less salt, like using Hippogriff Prototype instead of Steel Hellkite
If anyone has any cool ideas for this deck I would welcome them
Thanks man! Appreciate it!
May I link you a deck I made, get your opinion on if it's bracket 2? I took a strong bracket 3 I had and tried to strip it down.
What do y'all think of putting [[Zellix, Sanity Flayer]] Into a token focused [[Teval, the Balanced Scale]] Deck? I've currently got 11 ways to self mill
Add [[Intruder alarm]] and [[Insidious roots]]
Enchantment
Creature tokens you control have "
: Add one mana of any color."
Whenever one or more creature cards leave your graveyard, create a 0/1 green Plant creature token, then put a +1/+1 counter on each Plant you control.
The roots of Vitu-Ghazi allowed Trostani to reach every crack and crevice in the city.
How does the “Mutate” keyword work?
- #mtg-rules-questions can help in general with stuff like this
it doesn’tYou pay the mutate cost to cast it on top of a non human creature, and it’ll have the p/t of whatever you choose the top card to be
If it’s confusing you’re not the only one, I think the official design team have said mutate was a mistake
Does it gain the abilities of the bottom card?
Yes, to my limited understanding of mutate
How does “More the Meets the Eye” work??
[[Cyclonus]]
Legendary Artifact Creature — Robot
More Than Meets the Eye

(You may cast this card converted for

.)
Flying
Whenever Cyclonus deals combat damage to a player, it connives. Then if Cyclonus's power is 5 or greater, convert it. (To have a creature connive, draw a card, then discard a card. If you discarded a nonland card, put a +1/+1 counter on that creature.)
2/5
Cyclonus, Cybertronian Fighter
Legendary Artifact — Vehicle
Living metal (During your turn, this Vehicle is also a creature.)
Flying
Whenever Cyclonus deals combat damage to a player, convert it. If you do, there is an additional beginning phase after this phase. (The beginning phase includes the untap, upkeep, and draw steps.)
5/5
You can cast it as the front side for 2BU, or the back for 5BU
Should I have lier disciple of the drowned glamdring arcane bombardment and Strom klin artist in the same jeskai striker upgrade deck that I'm making
Also follow up should I get rid of monastery mentor?
How do you make sure you have no 2 card combos in a life gain and life loss deck as it seems super easy to accidently have one, I have removed a few cards to stop this from happening since moxfield doesn't say infinity combos I am having hard time making sure it doesn't go infinite
The simplest way is to simply not play cards that enable that combo in a given game, unfortunately
Like not playing them certainly feels like sandbagging but those effects are super good for a life gain deck
Alright if I see one I'll just remove it after since I'm not here to instantly win, I'm here to eat your soul 😗
Sorry for a strange question:
less rules and deck building question (kinda)
But what kinda decks/cards do most people find annoying to play against?
That varies super wildly
Like one person might loathe token decks, another might dislike combos, and another might be really upset over mill
If everyone tried to make decks that wouldn’t upset anyone ever the game wouldn’t exist
That’s fair- I just want to play a deck that both players can have fun against
The “problem” is fun is subjective, and prone to whims
To my understanding though the only deck plan that is near universally hated is MLD tribal
MLD?
Mass Land Destruction
I don’t think there’s a deck that everyone will enjoy fighting against, but as long as you have good vibes and are a decent sport you should be good
I loathe battlecruiser decks with 0 interaction
I swear, the next time I am at a table and I am the only person running interaction I will genuinely have to ask them what the fuck they are doing
What’s a battlecruiser?
Basically play big creatures for 12 turns, then everyone swings out and sees who wins
That just sounds like an average green deck?
Could you elaborate on it a little more? Are you just running vanilla monsters and swinging?
its more like, you are slowly ramping up to your big monster
and then you swing after you land it
basically its a deck whose entire focus is to swing out all at once and kill everyone with their boardstep after not interacting for however long it takes to build up
OH- so it’s like “I either win in one turn or die” kinda deck?
yeah
Oh. That sounds awful to play
Id say no mass land destroying kinda sums up all of it, some people might not like being milled or something but all of that is preventable and even destroying artifacts that produce mana might seem mean but thats the choice of running mana rocks, basically everything has a counter but be prepared to be hard countered if you run a really obnoxious deck someone might just switch their deck to prevent you from doing anything.
basically think of a card if it has 2 weaknesses to something its fine but if it only has like 1 hyper specific counter maybe think about what it does
like the one ring if you are going to run it maybe think about running something similar or you will probably be targeted tell you die or win and stuff like that is just anoyying to play aginst and even more so if it has no reason to be in your deck
Ok- so would an Azurious control deck be considered annoying?
Id need a lot more info than that, you have to just feel it and not play such busted combos no one can even respond ever, the brackets are fake.
It's the intention of the player and what they do with it.
Azurious control that limits threats to themselves but lets everyone build board states: ok
Azurious control that prevents everyone from playing at all: not ok
But that’s more for #format-philosophy
The idea is to tap the opponent’s creatures- that’s about it.
What does [F] near a card mean?
So is chaos warp bad?
is there a frenetic efreet but for dice?
What F?
Not specifically, but in higher colors than mono red it’s not great
Not to my knowledge
What commander starter deck has loyal guardian
The “Token Triumph” one
It was also reprinted in several sets
So it’s pretty cheap
On Mana Box, there are some cards with an “F” next to their name
Foil, I think
That makes senseee
When buying cards for a deck, how do y’all go about it? Tcgplayer, look for people near you? Or something else?
I start with my Local Game Store (LGS), then I typically go with card kingdom myself, but there’s also mana pool, starcitygames, and a few others. I personally wouldn’t support TCGPlayer due to union busting issues, but it is an option
Ty! I’ll start with an LGS
Does Hylda’s ability proc off of Authority of the Consuls?
No
She only does it when you're making something tap
So she also doesn't trigger off of [[charismatic conqueror]]
Because when it taps the person is choosing to tap it, the effect isn't tapping it.
THOUGHT SO! Thank you!
I'm building a g/w +1/+1 counter deck, are cards like Overrun useful/necessary or are you fine as long as you have enough sources of trample (with maybe the one finisher to keep people on their toes)
It really depends on how you want the deck to play
I know that’s not a great answer but at least one card like overrun is helpful in general
hello, looking for good ways in RB to get value from [[Kardur, Doomscourge]] ETB, so far I have:
- Hellkite Courser
- Twinflame
- Conjurer's Closet
- Molten Duplication
- Saw in Half
- Jaxis, the Troublemaker
- Mirage Phalanx

uuh
what about that one MDFC land
[[malakir rebirth]]
Instant
Choose target creature. You lose 2 life. Until end of turn, that creature gains "When this creature dies, return it to the battlefield tapped under its owner's control."
"Those who fail to escape Malakir become part of the city's defense." —Doros, expedition guide
Malakir Mire
Land
This land enters tapped.

"Getting into Malakir isn't difficult. It's getting out that's the hard part." —Doros, expedition guide
Orthion, Hero of Lavabrink also exists as a Jaxis sidegrade
golden argory and sword of hearth and home are repeated flicker effects
How does equipment work?
What happens when the equipped monster gets destroyed?
Unless the card reads “destroy creature and all equipment attached”, the equipment falls off and stays on the battlefield
You can equip it to a different creature for its equip cost (on your turn)
I am the type of player that likes Lantern Control. My playgroup is asking me to build a Bracket 2 deck, and I am having difficulties doing that reasonably. I can follow all of the official bracket guidelines, but the decks I create still are generally too powerful. I've looked at precons, but none of them are screaming "Buy me!" I am looking for some advice.
Hello i was wondering if anyone is willing to look through my Optimus prime deck and give me feedback on it?
I have a (mostly) B2 clone deck if you want to look at it
Without the GC it’s B2
I'd be happy to look at it.
I can’t give good jeskai advice but if you make a #1020353936592470147 thread someone might be able to help
Oh alright thank you
That looks fun.
It is! It’s my favorite deck
You can easily remove the GC and it will still play pretty well
Can a saga have zero counters on it? Would anything happen if that happens? I am making a deck and I was thinking to put [[Summon:Shiva]] and [[Scholar of New Horizons]] in it but I am uncertain of the interaction on a saga with zero counters on it.
Enchantment Creature — Saga Elemental
(As this Saga enters and after your draw step, add a lore counter. Sacrifice after III.)
I, II — Heavenly Strike — Tap target creature an opponent controls. Put a stun counter on it. (If a permanent with a stun counter would become untapped, remove one from it instead.)
III — Diamond Dust — Draw a card for each tapped creature your opponents control.
"Let us summon a sea in a new dream world."
4/5
Creature — Human Scout
This creature enters with a +1/+1 counter on it.
, Remove a counter from a permanent you control: Search your library for a Plains card and reveal it. If an opponent controls more lands than you, you may put that card onto the battlefield tapped. If you don't put the card onto the battlefield, put it into your hand. Then shuffle.
1/1
The sacrifice trigger is after the last ability, a saga should be able to exist on a board with zero counters on it
When deck building, should I have more than 1 Legendary Creature that shares the exact colors of my commander for more flexibility for who can be in the command zone?
You don't strictly have to do that unless you want to!
Its fun to do if you can
i need 2 more cuts for my deck, what 2 cards do i cut here?
https://moxfield.com/decks/lJ73pHzG8EK1hfHihtgkcw
and do people have other things i could add? aiming for bracket 2
How’s this look for a half-assed, no investment Cloud deck:
Question:
which color is the best to start with when getting someone into magic?
A lot of people say green
I was introduced with Esper
Tbf, you did that to yourself.
And?
I don’t think theres a definitive answer. Best starting point is whatever aspect most appeals to the individual.
IIRC, I started magic with the two-color intro decks somewhere close to theros or khans block.
After a few disappointing runs with my [[bladewing, deathless tyrant]] deck, I am trying to decide if I want to turn it into [[grist, voracious larva]] or [[chainer, nightmare adept]] as the commander. What I like about Chainer, is that it will let me use a bunch of zombie cards. I also haven't played many games with Rakdos. I really like that Grist is doing something similar to Bladewing and seems more resilient. I am a bit bored play green though. Thoughts?
Legendary Creature — Insect
Deathtouch
Whenever Grist or another creature you control enters, if it entered from your graveyard or you cast it from your graveyard, you may pay
. If you do, exile Grist, then return it to the battlefield transformed under its owner's control.
1/2
Grist, the Plague Swarm
Legendary Planeswalker — Grist
+1: Create a 1/1 black and green Insect creature token, then mill two cards. Put a deathtouch counter on the token if a black card was milled this way.
−2: Destroy target artifact or enchantment.
−6: For each creature card in your graveyard, create a token that's a copy of it, except it's a 1/1 black and green Insect.
Loyalty: 3
Would adding [[Urza, Lord High Artificer]] to a [[Morska, Undersea Sleuth]] be cringe? I know Urza is a strong card, but in a detective/clue deck would it be that bad?
Legendary Creature — Human Artificer
When Urza enters, create a 0/0 colorless Construct artifact creature token with "This token gets +1/+1 for each artifact you control."
Tap an untapped artifact you control: Add
.
: Shuffle your library, then exile the top card. Until end of turn, you may play that card without paying its mana cost.
1/4
It isn't bad, but just know it would raise the level of your Morska deck to at least bracket 3 since he's a game changer. Also you might have more table aggro
Yeah right now my deck is 2 but upgraded. I jist think in a deck more centered around him it would be more potant rather than being one of the 99
@rotund forge
As someone who has an Urza deck and has him in the 99 of decks he warps things more than you would think.
As an alternative there is [[jaheira friend]]
She allows the artifact tokens to tap for green mana instead of blue and isn't a game changer

She also costs a lot less if you don't already own the Urza
Also, since Morska's precon does have other cards that make non-artifact tokens, Jaheira notably also works with those
yeah i bought the precon and she was one of the upgrades. i already had the Urza from pulling it from a FF pack
Yeah I do extensive research when upgrading 😂 I'll keep the Urza in mind though. Just seems too good to pass up
I think he's made updates since this but hasn't put them online. I know that Jaheira and Urza are both there
This is fine
my idea is to basically pump Morska or someone else and just make them unblockable. considering putting an [[All That Glitters]] inside it
iirc my husband changed Urza in instead of Chulane
Yeah hes the only one i can see swapping out. effect is good, butUrza would be better
He also has/had a Chulane deck (still together but in drydock)
Yo that Tamiyo planeswalker is legit
i love looking up other peoples decks to see what spice they got
She's his favorite planeswalker (the bant one specifically, not the character)
Her + ability can be used on an opponents' creature though.
And you get the draw, not the controller
ooooh bet
It also triggers if they block, since it's any combat damage
do you draw for each one or just one?
Each one
you sold me on the card haha
i need help winning with my deck https://archidekt.com/decks/15962602
long story short its a secret commander deck where i find [[neerdiv, devious diver]] and then ideally pump the frick out of her and untap her a bunch. then i just win by making my opponents mill their libraries.
the problem comes in actually pumping her enough and untapping her enough.
so, i have [[othaari, suns' glory]] as a commander and i want to skip taxes without having to have a rebel on the board... any good reanimate spells that can hit her?
Legendary Creature — Phoenix
Flying, lifelink, haste
Whenever Otharri attacks, you get an experience counter. Then create a 2/2 red Rebel creature token that's tapped and attacking for each experience counter you have.

, Tap an untapped Rebel you control: Return this card from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped.
3/3
good reanimation spells, no
But there are a few at 4cmc, a couple conditionals at 2, and you can arguably just [[feldon third path]] it
Probably better off investing in more protection or ramp
Swords to plowshares is literally the third most played card in the format
https://moxfield.com/decks/lJ73pHzG8EK1hfHihtgkcw
i have this deck that aims to buff up creatures with aura's, however, i find that it often either gets mana screwed or mana flooded with no in between (without changing land count) i found that the answer was more card draw, do y'all have some suggestions for me that could fit within theme?
What are some fun wincons I could go for in Dimir with [[oona queen of the fae]] as my commander?
At the minute iv got [[isocron scepter]] and [[dramatic reversal]] for infinite mana and I can go wide with faeries
If you have infinite mana you don’t even need to go wide, you just activate her ability and make everyone exile their decks
[[Freed from the real]] and [[Loreth of the healing house]] can help go for infinite mana
Yeah so that was one of the wincons. I am keen to have a couple options though if possible to give the deck a little more variety. The thing is that iv never built a deck like this before and I'm at a bit of a loss
These two are a great shout, exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for
You can also use [[Ashnod’s altar]] to loop into extra mana
Ah great minds think alike. Iv got that in the current version 🤣
Do you reckon the deck as it is looks reasonable then?
I can’t look too closely but it looks fine to me
I have a [[Lord of the nazgul]] , 9 [[nazguls]], [[ringwraiths]] and the one ring and .... i wanna use them all in a deck, what are my viable options for build a deck that stays bracket 3 while going for the Nazgul theme?
Legendary Creature — Wraith Noble
Flying
Wraiths you control have protection from Ring-bearers.
Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell, create a 3/3 black Wraith creature token with menace. Then if you control nine or more Wraiths, Wraiths you control have base power and toughness 9/9 until end of turn.
4/3
Was wondering people’s thoughts on [[Squall Leonhart]]. Have a list for him up but need assistance tuning it
Hi all, trying to make some sort of token deck with main win cons of Kunckles/Revel in Riches, or through some sort of burn with token gen if those 2 get stopped. This is my first time making a deck from scratch. Mainly looking for anything obvious that I don't have enough of (draw/creatures?), but open to any card suggestions as well (only have 94 right now). Definitely don't want it too strong, only added in one game changer I felt really meshed with the deck (Smothering)
If there's a better commander that inclues black and red, I could be interested as well
Currently building an Azorius Blink deck with [[Sharae of Numbing Depths]] at the helm. I'm struggling a little with wincons. All of my winning combos are based around going infinite with [[Felidar Guardian]] which I think makes it a little too flimsy as I basically need that one card to win games. What sorts of things would yous do to close out the game in a deck like this?
Legendary Creature — Merfolk Wizard
When Sharae enters, tap target creature an opponent controls and put a stun counter on it. (If a permanent with a stun counter would become untapped, remove one from it instead.)
Whenever you tap one or more untapped creatures your opponents control, draw a card. This ability triggers only once each turn.
2/3
I am trying to find some interesting ways to consistently bust out [[denizen of the deep]] in mono-blue because I like the art. any fun ideas?
[[jalira, master]]
Legendary Creature — Human Wizard

,
, Sacrifice another creature: Reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal a nonlegendary creature card. Put that card onto the battlefield and the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.
"You can become anything if I just put my mind to it."
2/2
Along with a way to stack the top of your deck
[[long term plans]] or something like that
I know denizen isn't a great card, but i'm losing 2 creatures and gaining 1 in that situation
It could be a token creature, and you'd be returning everything anyway
I can think of things you could do if you were doing 2 colors instead
Azorius or Simic
You can do [[kenessos]] as mono blue
Legendary Creature — Merfolk Cleric
If you would scry a number of cards, scry that many cards plus one instead.

: Look at the top card of your library. If it's a Kraken, Leviathan, Octopus, or Serpent creature card, you may put it onto the battlefield. If you don't put the card onto the battlefield, you may put it on the bottom of your library.
1/3
Even though the identity is simic because the ability is hybrid mana
And run [[kiora, behemoth beckoner]]
But, Kenessos is cheap to re-cast, can deploy it significantly earlier than normal, and still works within your framework of wanting a mono-blue deck
with cards like brainstorm, brainsurge, and long term plans? or are there easier ways to get the creature on top?
In mono blue, not really
There are other leviathans that bounce everything though
You can have them as well
As time goes on, it feels like [[defense of the heart]] is just the most efficient way to play out your creatures. it's 1 card for 2, puts your opponents on the defensive, and is mana efficient. Maybe Oath of druids too
Oath of druids is really funny
If you want to do full simic you can definitely use those
I was trying to give you an option that I thought would work for playing as mono blue
I really appreciate it too, but i think I this aspect maybe mono blue isn't as good, and i might have to dip.
So weird question, newbie to deck building, how many basic lands should I run in my commander deck? A buddy of mine runs a rakdos deck and runs 0 mountains and swamps saying why run them when it’s more efficient to run dual lands, legendary lands, mdfc lands etc. is this idea wrong/bad for deck design? How many basics should be in a dual color deck?
Depends on how much money you have and how scared you are of [[!Blood Moon]] type effects.
(and how many cards you have that search for basics exclusively)
For instance, in White [[!Archeomancer's Map]] and the like means I usually run at least 5 basic plains even in tri-colour decks
I have no idea how or when I would use [[Kappa Cannoneer]] in my [[Morska, Undersea Sleuth]] deck. Would I play it early and just let it scale up? ward 4 is hard as hell to gey rid of i imagine. or at least annoying
Artifact Creature — Turtle Warrior
Improvise (Your artifacts can help cast this spell. Each artifact you tap after you're done activating mana abilities pays for
.)
Ward
Whenever this creature or another artifact you control enters, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature and it can't be blocked this turn.
4/4
I personally run lots of decks with red but also usually squeeze in [[!Chromatic Lantern]] but I see your point. I’m planning on running an izzet deck so not too scared about the mountains. Are there similar cards that turn everything into other lands? And I guess how many land search cards should I run?
I guess should emphasize pod plays tier 2/3 mostly. So really not worried about a blood moon.
There's a few, usually in Red - like [[!Magus of the Moon]], [[!Crumble to Dust]] and [[!Alpine Moon]].
Of course, [[!Winter Moon]] and and the other villainous MLD cards of bracket 4 hits everyone.
In general, Bracket 2-3 is not a place where I'd be concerned about nonbasic hate.
Appreciate it @neon abyss you’ve been helpful. Main issue we’re running into in the pod is 2 players tend to always politic with each other no matter what and they’re also playing decks that are above the power level of everyone else. Kinda toxic but 🤷🏻♂️. I’m currently working on a [[!Bria, Riptide Rogue]] deck.
any ways in mono black to make creatures non creatures that keep their abilities?
I probably don't want to have [[Lier, Disciple of the drowned]] in a Narset Enlightened Exile deck right?
Kind of struggling with building an Anti-Venom deck, do you guys think the reanimator direction is better or is it the +1/+1 counters?
[[anti venom]]
The reanimation is really powerful tbh, plus white reanimator is sick
It’s only online rn but my version focuses on the +1 counters
Are there any good mono-white reanimator lists?
Could I see it? 👀
Very interesting, how do you feel it plays? Just wondering since there's little card draw
Oh it’s a first draft/thought experiment, I don’t think I’ve even play tested it yet lol
Would anyone be willing to offer any advice on what to cut from a Meren decklist? My LGS has kind of progressed towards mainly bracket 4 decks and I've never had to build one before, so I'm struggling to keep up.
Should I buy either the aether drift bundle or the edge of eternity bundle for robots constructs and vehicles to help me build my eggman deck
What options do i have in mardu to get back enchaments in a Terra, Herald of Hope commander deck
[[Terra, Herald of Hope]]
Legendary Creature — Human Wizard Warrior
Trance — At the beginning of combat on your turn, mill two cards. Terra gains flying until end of turn.
Whenever Terra deals combat damage to a player, you may pay
. When you do, return target creature card with power 3 or less from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped.
3/3
Is Blood Moon worth running in a Gruul werewolf deck?
Probably not.
Are there any simple strategies on casting [[Aminatou's Augury]] early in mono-blue?
Looking similar effects to Mindslicer/sire of sirenity, basically looking ways to get every1 discard their hand effectively with 1 card. jin gitaxias is there too but might not have the slot to use for gc
I mean
Just ramp a fair bit
Or like [[jacob hauken]]
Legendary Creature — Human Advisor
: Draw a card, then exile a card from your hand face down. You may look at that card for as long as it remains exiled. You may pay

. If you do, transform Jacob Hauken.
"Our world may be dark, but there's still plenty to see."
0/2
Hauken's Insight
Legendary Enchantment
At the beginning of your upkeep, exile the top card of your library face down. You may look at that card for as long as it remains exiled.
Once during each of your turns, you may play a land or cast a spell from among the cards exiled with this permanent without paying its mana cost.
High tide gets early casts up as well
Hey yall, I’m just wondering if I can post my deck lists here for people to take a look at and lmk what bracket they’re in?
Thats one of the ways you can use this thread, yes.
How good/bad are [[Archivist of Oghma]] and [[Deep Gnome Terramancer]] for mono-white decks? Would love to hear people's experiences with them
Both put in serious work in most games
Are there any strong strategies / decks around [[see the unwritten]] , [[bramble familiar]] , and [[summoning trap]] ? It seems like a fun way to drop some creatures - how can I consistently cast those cards?
Instant — Trap
If a creature spell you cast this turn was countered by a spell or ability an opponent controlled, you may pay
rather than pay this spell's mana cost.
Look at the top seven cards of your library. You may put a creature card from among them onto the battlefield. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in any order.
So personally id be playing [[ojer kaslem]] in the command zone if consistently doing this sorta thing is the goal, that lets you focus on enablers that are also hits, so lands/creatures that scry or tutor to the top, but also [[noxious revival]] type things
Legendary Creature — God
Trample
Whenever Ojer Kaslem deals combat damage to a player, reveal that many cards from the top of your library. You may put a creature card and/or a land card from among them onto the battlefield. Put the rest on the bottom in a random order.
When Ojer Kaslem dies, return it to the battlefield tapped and transformed under its owner's control.

what 10 cards should i remove to bring it to 100
Every card with Daybound I'd probably figure out if I wanted Rampant growth to cast commander at 4 mana on t3 or Cultivate/Kodama's reach to cast commander at 5 mana on turn 4
https://moxfield.com/decks/k7u-Bf1EqE2H4DlhNzhrpw Need help cutting cards, currently need to cut 6
Also open to suggestions, but that would mean I need to cut even more cards lol
I have a [[grist, voracious larva]] deck that I just recently played. Once flipped, it got immediately hit by a flyer. What's a good way to protect it from fliers? OR from being killed on sight?
Loyalty: 3
On the more expensive side is [[hornet queen]], but it makes a lot of bodies and works with both etbs and insects. Reanimating it someway is also a way to get it in early
Expansive in a mana sense, of course
I was just looking at that one! It's totally doable in this deck. The ramp can be insane w/ cards like [[world shaper]] and obviously reanimate spells.
I like that one though bc it makes them either burn a wrath spell or have to target multiple creatures.
is [[betor kin of all]] is good for reanimate deck?
Legendary Creature — Spirit Dragon
Flying
At the beginning of your end step, if creatures you control have total toughness 10 or greater, draw a card. Then if creatures you control have total toughness 20 or greater, untap each creature you control. Then if creatures you control have total toughness 40 or greater, each opponent loses half their life, rounded up.
5/7
sorry i mean [[betor, ancestor's voice]]
Legendary Creature — Spirit Dragon
Flying, lifelink
At the beginning of your end step, put a number of +1/+1 counters on up to one other target creature you control equal to the amount of life you gained this turn. Return up to one target creature card with mana value less than or equal to the amount of life you lost this turn from your graveyard to the battlefield.
3/5
It certainly can be, yeah.
I mean...Betor's pretty niche with a focus on gaining/losing life but as long as you have an effective core for that the general shell around it can probably go however you really want it.
The other Betor is pretty explicitly a big toughness deck, I don't really see hatebears as an archetype for him. At least, its not one I'd expect.
[[Thalia and the Gitrog Monster]] lends better to that theme IMO.
aight. thx man. gonna try precon betor into reanimate
crafting [[lord of the nazgul]] deck with all the 9 nazgul and i'm fascinated by [[mask of the mimic]] and [[retraced image]] in order to cheat them onto the battlefield, are there any other blue/black cards that i can use to reach similar effects? i tried looking for it but the best i could find was [[Echoing Return]] to return them to hand from grave and [[Assembly Hall

4/3
[[Mitotic Manipulation]]
I want to cast [[flood of tears]] but I often don't have four permanents in play for it's added effect, are there any cards that can help me put other non-token permanents into play easily? For example with [[Agency outfitter]] I get 3 cards in one on the battlefield, but the card is expensive to cast
https://moxfield.com/decks/YNNxXlVTrk2v5aM3dgHjFQ
I'm currently running [[Rhonas's Monument]] and [[Hazoret's Monument]] with [[Ranger Class]]
While i do get some use out of the +2/+2 from Rhonas's monument and the wolf and counters from ranger class, i rarely use the card draw from Hazoret's monument, would it be worthwhile to swap them out for [[The Earth Crystal]] and [[The Fire Crystal]] with [[Innkeeper's Talent]]? or maybe just swapping hazoret monument for either earth crystal or innkeeper's talent (or both and take something else out as well).
Enchantment — Class

on a similar note, would it be better to just run [[rage reflection]] over [[berserker's onslaught]]? its 1 more mana cost but then i will always have double strike, not just when im attacking
It depends on how aggressive your deck is, if it wants to be punching as hard as possible consistently RR is better, if it’s only caring about your combat step BO is probably fine
Could anyone help me with my deck i just got into Magic around the end of July and did my first prerelease with Spider-Man man and pulled anti venom and finally decided to build my fist deck thats not a precon its a mono white deck with Anti venom as the commander and abit of a budget deck i planned the deck to be around 100 not counting the commander i pulled and some cards i traded for this is what it look like rn https://archidekt.com/decks/16402072/anti_healer?sort=price&stack=custom
any help/advice would be greatly appreciated whether it's on cards I should cut or some really good one to add

I believe you a much more likely to be smothered by lack of mana than lack of card draw
You are packing lots of highly powerful auras and pretty much every "Draw on aura" card I can recall
But it is not unlikely here that you cast a 4 CMC aura or even 5, draw two and do nothing cause you can't use it any of your draws cause you are left with 2 mana and they cost 3
Even when accounting for your commander buff of costing less
It is wise to have a deck that can work (even if poorly) without him in play
Cause it's voltron
People get very creative for killing your main character
tbh not really, in experience, i often play my commander turn 2, and then start playing aura's, i can often start dual casting at 4 lands with commander in play,
and at 2 cmc i can recast him a couple of times before he gets too expensive
Hey everyone I'm thinking of building this and what to know your thoughts. Is this a hated commander or is it welcome at most tables?
i'm thikinf of doing something nasty with [[séllshock]] to make it asymetrical. What options in White/Red do i get that can allow me to prevent damage from one source perpetually or just "prevent X damage " every turn?
Hello, anyone know of a card that can protect an enchantment for a whole turn cycle that is not perch protection or teferi's protection? Can't target on the stack as the protection and enchantment are cast at the same time
[[clever concealment]] is tefpro-lite
Instant
Convoke (Your creatures can help cast this spell. Each creature you tap while casting this spell pays for
or one mana of that creature's color.)
Any number of target nonland permanents you control phase out. (Treat them and anything attached to them as though they don't exist until your next turn.)
doesnt wory unfortunately, needs a target when put on the stack
yeah that would work. Really anything that makes it not a total sitting duck.

Legendary Creature — Human Artificer
Deathtouch
Whenever you activate an ability of an artifact or creature that isn't a mana ability, if one or more permanents were sacrificed to activate it, you may copy that ability. You may choose new targets for the copy. (Sacrificing an artifact for mana to activate an ability doesn't count.)

Almost certainly
would it be easier you think to make a new list entirely or can I modify this budget list? https://archidekt.com/decks/15123789/ashnod_budget
I have currently (a few months back) made a deck with Nicol Bolas (Chronicles - 1995) with several rules applied to the deck.
It cannot have more than 4 'Game Changers' or Staples, and I can only use cards printed between Beta - Eighth Edition. Down below is the current deck list. It's somewhat janky, but does have some level of power but kind of in the middle.
https://moxfield.com/decks/35bZdB-CSU6ZIefpiQFmhA
i've got this omnath brewing but i don't know how to make it notably cheaper while cutting what's necessary and adding a few more lands
what should i change? (budget is ~$300 but i'm always grateful to pull it lower)
Indifferent personally it's a deck to be mindful of at a table but not something I'd be overly worried about in a good way
https://moxfield.com/decks/XJJuluGgpk2YpLx-vDEKZA wanted to share my jaws deck and get some opinions on card choices people might add
Can y'all check my maybe board for my tidus deck and tell me what cards I should replace for my maybe board cards if any
I would sincerely recommend Kami of Whispered Hopes and [[Heritage Reclamation]]
I also think Twisted Spider Clone looks kinda mediocre. Probably rather play a card like [[Flux Channeler]] or [[Experimental Augury]]
And get rid of what?
Definitely [[!Return to Nature]]
Well I can't get experimental or flux I'm kind of restricted to what cards I can and cannot get but then again I found this new store where I live maybe they have them
But y'all wouldn't add any of my other maybe board cards?
Don't really know many of the other ones well, I'm afraid. Anafenza is often lacklustre and Archetype of Endurance has a very low floor
Right ok
I'd probably cut [[Deep Recon]], the 4 mana spiderman with a similar effect or the eagle for Kami of Whispered Hopes tho
Kami is incredibly poweeful
How about gyre sage is that good?
Yeah, Gyre Sage is good
Also earlier you said I should get rid of eagle did you mean abzan falconer?
And which spiderman twisted spider clone or spiderman Brooklyn visonary
Ah no, the Blink Eagle. Blinking removes all the counters and there weren't a lot of ETB effects that seemed worth losing those.
Twisted Spider Clone and Brooklyn Visionary had suggestions to replace them with equivalents so depending on what you add there.
If anything I might get rid of twisted spider clone for kami
Wondering if there’s anything in Grixis aside from [[River Song]] and [[Grenzo, Dungeon Warden]] that cares about bottom of library. Anything else?
Legendary Creature — Human Time Lord Rogue
Meet in Reverse — You draw cards from the bottom of your library rather than the top.
Spoilers — Whenever an opponent scries, surveils, or searches their library, put a +1/+1 counter on River Song. Then River Song deals damage to that player equal to its power.

Not much, it's a very rare theme.

Soundwave, Superior Captain
Legendary Artifact
Whenever you cast a spell with an odd mana value, convert Soundwave. If you do, create Ravage, a legendary 3/3 black Robot artifact creature token with menace and deathtouch.
Whenever you cast a spell with an even mana value, convert Soundwave. If you do, create Laserbeak, a legendary 2/2 blue Robot artifact creature token with flying and hexproof.
I feel I have to play it in paper somehow because soundwave is my boy but dear lord the card blows
anyway, for a very standard soundwave would you rather run [[bond of insight]] or [[talent of the telepath]]
Sorcery
Target opponent reveals the top seven cards of their library. You may cast an instant or sorcery spell from among them without paying its mana cost. Then that player puts the rest into their graveyard.
Spell mastery — If there are two or more instant and/or sorcery cards in your graveyard, you may cast up to two instant and/or sorcery spells from among the revealed cards instead of one.
Decided talent was less consistent and harder to cast, even if cooler
anyway, thoughts on this thing before I commit to trying to get it built finally? https://moxfield.com/decks/h4LKAi8fQUOQANHMX6d8uQ

Making a UG Hydra deck! Looking for opinions on how I should run this!

Oops, changed it. Thanks!
Hi all! I make alot of decks and atm im trying to make my friend a deck for Christmas and my idea is to make him a kenrith deck that has core cards in it, but can have 15-25 cards swapped out to give it a different play style if that makes sense ive been racking my brain for days and every-time I’m close to making it work I notice another problem
The original plan was giving opponents bad things like curses, lord of the pit lots of goading very chaotic etc
But then have it so I can swap 20-25 cards out to make it aggro damage so instead of giving opponents my creatures i just keep them and swing and keep the chaotic theme but it seeming much harder a challenge than initially thought
Kenrith has alot of abilities to help but even still finding the right cards is seeming very tricky
I was thinking a core of things that help creatures regardless of where they are, whispersilk cloak, curse of stalked prey/bloodletting, fiery emancipation etc if that makes sense.
Part of your issue here is starting with the most generic 5c commander since you ALWAYS have to look through every card ever made(ish) to make it
I did this with [[burakos]] a while back and just changed up the background/coloured cards to be able to be any of the colour pairings and it was much easier since the theme and less colours meant less cards to sort through and a more streamlined process
Riiiiight okay yes I see I see too big a card pool didnt think of that
Very intersting
Backgrounds are smart
Keeping both 5c and no specific theme on the commander just makes it very difficult to streamline the process
Backgrounds are super sick
[[Ellyn busy]] is also good for the 5c background switching since tokens are generically available and theres a background in each colour that supports them
Legendary Creature — Human Peasant
: Look at the top X cards of your library, where X is the number of tokens you created this turn. Put one of those cards into your hand and the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.
Choose a Background (You can have a Background as a second commander.)
2/4
Yeah thats an idea I hadnt thought of a mono deck splashing in colors with background or partners
Ill have to research that more!
Pretty sure this combo has probably already been found, but I just came up with it.
[[Dionus, Elvish Archdruid]], [[Cloudstone Curio]], [[Concordant Crossroads]] and enough Elves to generate at least 6-8 mana, to recast an Elf and Dionus and reset his ability, seems like infinite mana and counters on all your mana-producing Elves.
Priest of Titania effects make it a fair bit easier.
Legendary Creature — Elf Druid
Elves you control have "Whenever this creature becomes tapped during your turn, untap it and put a +1/+1 counter on it. This ability triggers only once each turn."
"My people are like the great magnigoth trees. We've seen ice, flood, invasions, and wars, yet our roots remain strong."
3/3
If the mana production is wide enough, Crossroads maybe isn't needed. It's mainly if you're trying to do it with a Priest of Titania effect.
Trying to build a deck with the guild pact nephilim using [[Omnath, locus of all]]. Other than multicolor matters, what kind of sub theme should I go for?
Legendary Creature — Phyrexian Elemental
If you would lose unspent mana, that mana becomes black instead.
At the beginning of your first main phase, look at the top card of your library. You may reveal that card if it has three or more colored mana symbols in its mana cost. If you do, add three mana in any combination of its colors and put it into your hand. If you don't reveal it, put it into your hand.
4/4
what would be a good ratio of dual lands vs basics? (specifically in a 3 color deck)
Im currently sitting at 40 lands (+1 MDFC) which is split to 10 basics, 20 duals, and 10 nonbasic/utility(command tower, path of ancestry, evolving wilds, etc)
Really hard to generally say. It depends heavily on what kind of ramp does your deck play, how harsh are your mana requirements and how your colors are distributed
Like if you have a commander that is 1 Black, 1 Blue, 1 Red to cast and your deck wants to cast it on turn 3 every game, you will have to run a lot more duals
could someone tell me if this a good build? ive only used cards in my collection, cuz wife hates it if i buy to much cards XD
https://archidekt.com/decks/17830356/angels
My suggestions would be:
- Your deck has too much removal. You forgo devolping your gameplan, just to stall the game
- What do you want your deck to do? Right now you have an Angel theme and a Go-wide theme. Angels cost a lot so, they aren't the best to mess with the go wide theme
- Your mana curve is large near the expensive side. Either put in more ramp or lower your curve
ok, tnx. wasnt really sure where to go with that one, so that might explain the messy build
It is also hard to build something coherent from bulk. Like you might want to do mostly anthems and tokens, then just not have enough
And ramp that can go in mono white is pretty rare so, even if you wanted to put in more ramp, you might not just have it
so, u would recommend against mono white?
Mono white is just harder to build out of bulk. Adding green would help a lot cause green land ramp is really cheap, plentiful and effective.
Like who doesn't have an extra copy of Cultivate
ok, tnx 🙂
Not trying to do anything too crazy, just casting from other places for value and a knowledge pool lock because I love it.
Hi I wanted some feedback on my Yarok deck. What should I do to it to win more games. It's supposed to be landfall main theme. https://archidekt.com/decks/15988277/yarok_the_desecrated_version_1
Yarok, the Desecrated - Commander deck
Landfall • ETB Effects • +1/+1 Counters • Tokens
(1) Commander • (3) Creature • (4) Draw • (2) Evasion • (1) Finisher • (34) Land • (3) Landfall • (2) Mill • (1) Protection • (1) Pump • (14) Ramp • (11) Recursion • (14) Removal • (1) Sac Outlet • (3) Tokens • (5) Tutor
How are games going for you at the moment?
I usually draw into a lot of ramp. Or it goes off with a lot of extra land play increases going wide with tokens from landfall triggers from swarm or rampaging. Enabled from fabled passage.
When it’s working
My stuff keeps getting blown up.
If the stuff being blown up is the major concern, things like [[genesis]] or protection pieces like [[Sylvan safekeeper]] might be the sort of things that can keep you in the game when there's a lot of interaction stifling your value
Genesis existing mostly in the graveyard means it cant be hit except by grave hate, and safekeeper can protect itself as well so its very self-sufficient as long as you have lands, and by the sounds of it you often have excess lands
Overall though, its important to remember your deck reasonably should be aiming to hit between 24-28% win rate anyway in a truly balanced pod, so unless this is for casual tournaments of some kind (oxymoron I know but roll with it) it may already be performing just fine
It also looks fairly complex to play, and it may just be a practice thing of holding some stuff back and letting other decks/threats eat interaction first since Yarok Landfall is a known menace to a lot of folks
@graceful knot just had a thought, do you still have a [[Katilda and Lier]]?
Because I just realized that [[Genesis wave]] would be very funny with this deck. Lands enter untapped, so if the gen wave is big enough there’s a very high chance you can just cast it again off of the lands you get from the first gen wave
And all the instants and sorceries you hit go to the gy too
It never progressed past theorycrafting, and the bant slot was taken by the Kellan list further up in this chat
Hey, I am looking for some feedback on using [[Jorn, God of Winter]] with earthbending before I buy the more expensive earthbender cards.

How do people feel about Rule 0 Partners to make unique 4-Color decks? I'm looking to build a Non-G artifacts deck, but I've run Breya for years and I've gotten bored with that singular option.
Has anyone else looked at Rule 0 options to remedy this?
Rule 0 stuff is more of a playgroup thing, as in you’ll get better answers asking people you’re about to start a game with if they’re ok with it
I do intend to have those same conversations in terms of whether or not to pull out the resulting deck at any given table, but here I'm more curious about what people bored with Breya end up doing, or what pairings you would theoretically make.
I don’t have a 4C deck so I can’t really say much on that
But if you’re looking for a Non-G artifact deck [[Drafna]]
Multiple cards match “Drafna”, can you be more specific?
[[Drafna, founder]]
Could be good
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind, I do enjoy artificers
With the debut of EOE, I was thinking of combining a Spacecraft with someone to be the "Captain". Perhaps [[Inspirit, Flagship Vessel]] paired with someone like [[Armix]] or [[Anrakyr]]
Legendary Artifact — Spacecraft
Station (Tap another creature you control: Put charge counters equal to its power on this Spacecraft. Station only as a sorcery. It's an artifact creature at 8+.)

STATION 8+
Flying
Other artifacts you control have hexproof and indestructible.
5/5
Legendary Artifact Creature — Golem
Whenever Armix attacks, you may discard a card. When you do, target creature defending player controls gets -X/-X until end of turn, where X is the number of artifacts you control plus the number of artifact cards in your graveyard.
Partner (You can have two commanders if both have partner.)
3/2
Legendary Artifact Creature — Necron
Lord of the Pyrrhian Legions — Whenever Anrakyr the Traveller attacks, you may cast an artifact spell from your hand or graveyard by paying life equal to its mana value rather than paying its mana cost.

The Argent Etchings
Enchantment — Saga
(As this Saga enters and after your draw step, add a lore counter.)
I — Incubate 2 five times, then transform all Incubator tokens you control.
II — Creatures you control get +1/+1 and gain double strike until end of turn.
III — Destroy all other permanents except for artifacts, lands, and Phyrexians. Exile this Saga, then return it to the battlefield (front face up).
I want to make an [[edgar markov]] deck, but i want to add some more flair with blood tokens using [[arterial alchemy]] and [[voldaren bloodcaster]]. what would be some other good includes that i can easily swap in?
Creature — Vampire Wizard
Flying
Whenever this creature or another nontoken creature you control dies, create a Blood token. (It's an artifact with "

Whenever you create a Blood token, if you control five or more Blood tokens, transform this creature.
2/1
Bloodbat Summoner
Creature — Vampire Wizard
Flying
At the beginning of combat on your turn, up to one target Blood token you control becomes a 2/2 black Bat creature with flying and haste in addition to its other types.
"Humans throw rice and release doves at their weddings? How quaint."
3/3
something like [[grisly ritual]] would be a nice removal but 6 cost is way too much for a single creature/planeswalker + 2 blood tokens :/
Blood tokens is (mostly) a Limited archetype. [[Shilgengar]] is probably the biggest payoff for them
Legendary Creature — Elder Demon
Flying
Sacrifice another creature: Create a Blood token. If you sacrificed an Angel this way, create a number of Blood tokens equal to its toughness instead.

, Sacrifice six Blood tokens: Return each creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield with a finality counter on it. Those creatures are Vampires in addition to their other types.
6/6
Other ones I guess you can get away with would be Bloodvial Purveyor, Pointed Discussion, Anje Maid of Dishonor, Ivora Insatiable Heir, Moonstone Eulogist, and maybe Transmutation Font.
But as a whole, most Blood token cards are not playable, and many are conditional includes for specific decks
Hey @hallow wyvern, didn’t you have a Strefan blood token deck?
[[Strefan, Progenitor]] is an example if you're very heavy into vampires and want a Kaalia imitation
Legendary Creature — Vampire Noble
Flying
At the beginning of your end step, create a Blood token for each player who lost life this turn.
Whenever Strefan attacks, you may sacrifice two Blood tokens. If you do, you may put a Vampire card from your hand onto the battlefield tapped and attacking. It gains indestructible until end of turn.
3/2
yes I do! I can grab the list
Yeah, lol you were faster at typing it. Strefan's one that's not unplayable, just conditional 😄
Introduction
Blood tokens, the oft forgotten tchotchke of a now-bygone era of standard. First introduced in Crimson Vow, these tokens are...middling, at best, in commander. They just don't scale terribly well into a 4-player environment and require a little too much effort to make work.
...Or d...
Jaws and Odric are also pretty good examples of how there's blood tokens cards that are playable in the right decks
Loved Sanguine Statuette and Oni-Cult Anvil in the standard meta, but both are kinda slow for edh
While being a thematic fail, would [[caretaker's talent]] be a good include?
Enchantment — Class
(Gain the next level as a sorcery to add its ability.)
Whenever one or more tokens you control enter, draw a card. This ability triggers only once each turn.
: Level 2
When this Class becomes level 2, create a token that's a copy of target token you control.

: Level 3
Creature tokens you control get +2/+2.
Mainly looking to get some minor feedback and potential cuts/swaps for a new human themed spellslinger list I put together, any and all feedback would be welcomed! https://moxfield.com/decks/vWvSlqCGWkOQ-I2KAplM4g
Hey I'm still in the early brewing stages of my Frodo and Sam deck but I'm really confused with what kind of ramp I should have. Usually you want 2-mana ramp for 4 CMC commanders and 3-mana ramp for 5 CMC or more, but with a 2 CMC and 3 CMC commander I'm left confused and not really wanting to go with only 1 CMC ramp. What should I do?
What function do you want the ramp to perform?
Its considered fairly fundamental to have some, but usually its just to get commanders down a turn early or because your curve is high. If your core strategy is mostly playing 2-4 cost cards with only a few top-ends, and the game is probably going to last long enough to cast them naturally because youre playing a lifegain deck, it may be better to eschew most forms of ramp and focus on disruption effects or ramp that colour fixes you. Things like [[lotho]] or [[weathered wayfarer]] might be good, since life loss is negligible and searching any land means you can fetch important silver bullet or utility pieces
Legendary Creature — Halfling Rogue
Whenever a player casts their second spell each turn, you lose 1 life and create a Treasure token. (It's an artifact with "
, Sacrifice this token: Add one mana of any color.")
"Whatever is wrong in the Shire, Lotho will be at the bottom of it: you can be sure of that." —Pippin
2/1
Just trying to execute my game plan smoothly. Doesn’t Weathered wayfarer suck once you’re caught up on labds though?
Not really, unless your other ramp sources are very geared to getting far above the normal land count
normally the ideal play with stuff like that is to use it with things like bouncelands to make it so you're always behind on lands but have the same mana
- There's usually somebody else ramping
- If youre not going 1st, you can activate it before your land drop and naturally other people will have turn count of lands while youre on turn count -1
It also doesnt need to be good forever
Its a 1st turn play, a chump blocker, fetches any land, and thats before making additional accommodations for it
wayfarer can search up a bounceland or lotus field so that's hardly a pipe dream either
If you fetch a utility that goes away (urzas saga, any fetch etc) then you also increase your windows to activate it since it isnt restricted to sorcery speed
wayfarer isn't always ramp on its own though, it's more for hitting your land drops
Yeah I didn’t really think of utility lands I could use but that’s certainly a possibility. It’s all kind of strange though cause I don’t see myself not putting green ramp spells in my deck, but I completely agree with you guys. Turn 1 mana dork into my two commanders seems strong.
Don't get trapped by thinking "well im in green I have to ramp!"
If it doesnt make sense in the strategy and in the curve you have, don't bother. Or play 1 and 4cmc ramp only, then you can either curve onto commanders or onto more powerful ramp spells to start truly double spelling turn 5
Yeah I think the latter is truly the way to go. I’m limiting myself to LotR cards so I have a bunch of expensive cards to play + keeping up protection.
Here’s my list (needs a couple of cuts) https://moxfield.com/decks/jItFNtoBrkeklTRc0RIxlw
Would Elanor, Mirkwood Bats, Merry Warden of Isengard, Rapcious guest, Samwise Gamgee all double trigger with Gandalf the White? I’m a bit hesitant with “when sacrificed” effects but the others I feel like they would.
I’m basically wondering if Gandalf the White is good value in this deck. Maybe the flash legendaries is good enough to be able to play many creatures in the end step. Then the double trigger would just be graavy.
Pretty general question but I am stuck on a specific example.
How do you make the decision on whether your CZ is a payoff or an enabler for your strategy? Obviously all the best commanders are both, Korvold, Kefka, Rocco Street Chef etc.
But when there isn't a clear standout option like those or you're trying to bridge subthemes, building CZ agnostic often leaves me with more information but the same questions. The 99 still has the same sort of cards, enablers, payoffs, subtheme bridges, but the cz is the final glue that brings those together due to its consistent presence and the synergy cards that rely more heavily on it.
Ill post the follow up specific example im struggling with in a few minutes in #suggest-a-commander as it seems better for the specific question
https://manabox.app/decks/AZridABMd4yns0F7yGbnFQ
think ironed out this deck but if anyone has recommendations to change it would be appreciated. Going in with pingers and a little bit of storm/copy. Wear them down until I can finish them off with a large crackle with power, underworld breach, aetherflux reservoir, or a ghyrson kicked comet storm. Was thinking of adding a third path iconoclast but i already have a young pyromancer so idk lol. Thank you!
15 creatures might be a little light? Not sure though
while not a vampire, would [[moonstone eulogist]] be a great add for the vampire/blood token deck?
Creature — Bat Warlock
Flying
Whenever a creature an opponent controls dies, you create a Blood token. (It's an artifact with "
,
, Discard a card, Sacrifice this token: Draw a card.")
Whenever you sacrifice an artifact, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature and you gain 1 life.
4/4
It would at least be fine
I have a blood tokens deck. In testing, I've not found great success in that specific way of making blood tokens. But thats less because of the trigger and more because of Kamber being just...a card of all time.
This is far better between the two, though if you count [[Markov enforcer]] as a similar effect and you can only afford one slot to it, the Enforcer is the best of the three as it turns vampires into effective removal.
Creature — Vampire Soldier
Whenever this creature or another Vampire you control enters, this creature fights up to one target creature an opponent controls.
Whenever a creature dealt damage by this creature this turn dies, create a Blood token. (It's an artifact with "
,
, Discard a card, Sacrifice this token: Draw a card.")

Hey! i’m looking for a few specific things for my deck, i’m looking for a low mana green creature that can tutor for an artifact, im making a green combo deck, and i wanna be able to consistently find my umbral mantle or staff of domination. im also trying to figure out what 3 mana creature with 4 power would be the most efficient, because fanatic of rhonas and umbral mantle are common for my deck
i’m running [[Yisan, the wanderer bard]]
kind of a stupid question, but mostly just want confirmation. Would something like [[leyline of anticipation]] let me cast [[gravecrawler]] from graveyard during opponents' turns? I'm thinking of combining it with [[bender's waterskin]] for some shenanigans
Yes, that works!
I have a few decks that I’m making and I’m spicing it up with a mono green deck but I’m wondering if this is too many creatures: https://manabox.app/decks/AZtX_sY9eaCV6pJrO3KqbQ
would [[reckless fireweaver]] and [[ceremonial knife]] be an infinite? a very weird bloody infinite, lol
i guess not cause its not combat dmg, nvm
Really trying to decide if i want to toss in [[the wind crystal]] and [[Bontu's monument]] (still an edgar deck)

Hi everyone, reworking my commander Party Time deck wisely and would love few feedbacks on it + card suggestion/cards missing for the few 3 slots, thank you ( I wanna keep it mid budget, somehow bracket 2/3 ) !
I think it's missing few creatures, maybe move on few sorceries/artefacts ?
And I didn't touch much the lands so any cheap and great suggestions are welcome 🙂
My goal is: get the party synergy pretty well, being able to mitigate the randomness of the top of my library and bring few stuff from the graveyard if necessary. I wanna keep it thematic and dynamic/fluid to play 🙂 ! CHEERS
Nice! But Archetype of Courage should probably be Jazal Goldmane, can't have one guy in the deck unwelcome to the party. I think I'd add some more creatures with flash, or some instants. Just to be able to surprise your opponents a bit more. Kutzil's Flanker, Aven Interruptor and Rhys the Evermore (once it gets printed) could be good.
I need something to damage a opponent when I sacrifice a token/permanent
Any recommendations?
mirkwood bats is the most obvious. Susurian voidborn is another. Agent of the iron throne.
do you care specifically what you're sacrificing?
My playgroup doesn’t have any banlist.
That means banned cards, Silver cards, Playtest cards, Heroes of the Realm cards are legal.
What are some of the most disgusting things I can do without those restrictions?
That’s my deck. It’s an enchantment prison deck. It aims to establish a hard or soft lock and then win through planeswalkers.
What disgusting things can I do without a banlist?
These come to mind for me.
The deck name is a Technoblade quote btw
The primary goal is to create a boardstate where creatures are irrelevant as a permanent type, lock down other relevant permanent types and then lock with either [[Knowledge Pool]] and [[Rule of Law]] or [[Land Equilibrium]] with mass land destruction.
Then use a Planeswalker like Ugin to close out the game unopposed.
[[Nexus of Fate]] is played to give me a win-condition if I hard lock without a winning board state. I’ll just discard it to hand size and never draw myself out.
Maybe I should just make a thread…
would [[annointed procession]] combined with [[legion loyalty]] be a good combo for aggressive vamps? (edgar markov deck)
my understanding is it would make 2 token copies of each attacking creature tapped and attacking for each player, though they would still get exiled after combat
and then the followup question, would [[renewed solidarity]] make copies of those tokens at end of turn even though they were exiled?(effectively keeping the tokens that were made and really ramping up the board) or since you no longer control them, would it not trigger?
Since you don’t control them anymore there’s nothing for the enchantment to copy

my edgar markov deck so far, I decided to scrap the blood token focus. what would be a good cut to make room for [[blood tribute]] (as an extra win con) and maybe [[pact of the serpent]] and [[patriarch's bidding]] and [[skullclamp]] in that order in terms of priority.

I can get a lot of card draws and get a good amount of mana pretty quick some games but it doesn’t really go anywhere. What should I do? I find it hard to add/cut stuff since I need so many insects. I also feel like I mill for no benefit sometimes. Even though I need things to get milled to get my current wincon in sight.
I’m trying to make wins smoother
Maybe another win engine or something
okey thanks ! I update the deck pretty often now, i'll take it in consideration, also i'm starting to build another deck with:
Wow, two party decks? Without overlap?
Well, if you want to build a new deck, I'm guessing you don't want the same cards in both decks.
yeah yeah dont worry
i'm building it
you have blue color here, so ofc you add other cards too
Makes sense. I think you're correct in trying to keep the insect count high. There are a few more changelings coming out that might be worth taking a look at. As far as wincons go: you could push for more creatures (even if not insects) in the deck. This would improve the power of Grists ultimate/Syr Konrad/Aatchik. You could then perhaps also put in more 'creature-in-graveyard' wincons like Season of Loss and Izoni, Thousand-Eyed.
Something i added just as a generic win con I can draw into is professor onyx and the witherbloom apprentice with chain of smog
I’ll look into those cards
Unearth, Eternal Witness, and phrexian altar is also lethal with Syr Vondam
Pushing the combo's will move it firmly into bracket 4. Which could be where you want to be though.
I would like some advice:
I really want to build a deck that wins with [[the great synthesis]] or just getting all the versions of Jin-Gitaxias out, but I'm unsure if I want Jin-Gitaxias as the commander. Any ideas?
Legendary Creature — Phyrexian Praetor
Ward
Whenever you cast a noncreature spell with mana value 3 or greater, draw a card.

: Exile Jin-Gitaxias, then return it to the battlefield transformed under its owner's control. Activate only as a sorcery and only if you have seven or more cards in hand.
5/5
The Great Synthesis
Enchantment — Saga
(As this Saga enters and after your draw step, add a lore counter.)
I — Draw cards equal to the number of cards in your hand. You have no maximum hand size for as long as you control this Saga.
II — Return all non-Phyrexian creatures to their owners' hands.
III — You may cast any number of spells from your hand without paying their mana costs. Exile this Saga, then return it to the battlefield (front face up).
I'm divided on a Jin-Gitaxias cEDH deck
Can anyone suggest any funny but not bad card that can fit into my simic control commander deck?
[[galadriel of lothl]]
Legendary Creature — Elf Noble
Whenever the Ring tempts you, if you chose a creature other than Galadriel as your Ring-bearer, scry 3.
Whenever you scry, you may reveal the top card of your library. If a land card is revealed this way, put it onto the battlefield tapped.
"I pass the test. I will diminish, and go into the West, and remain Galadriel."
3/3
This is the commander?
I have a Galadriel list (albeit a slow one) if you want to check it out
Ye,sure I can check it out
Was it helpful at all?
Ye i did see some card that I might consider add to my deck
I’ve got this list for an Urza brew im working on and have heard some mixed feedback. I’ve still got a few more cuts to work on, but I was just wondering if anyone would be willing to give it a quick once over and tell me if I’m currently in the right direction or what looks like a decent list, or a complete trainwreck that should be reassembled from the ground up: https://moxfield.com/decks/Qmiq3DsIPkm8feuJJY_ZUQ
Looks cool, decent list, what target bracket?
Some thoughts:
Kindred Discovery is fun, but may not play out ideally (you set it up for one thing, but end up having mostly other tokens after a wipe or so)
You have quite a bit of power in just a few cards. If anything, I might take out some of the anthem effects for an extra land and something like [[Marionette Master]] in case attacking is just not working out.
Depending on the bracket, you might also want to add in two more counterspells. At higher brackets, this deck is not likely to be the fastest threat at the table, but if it hinders opponents enough, it can surely get there after the first threats are kept in check.
Creature — Human Artificer
Fabricate 3 (When this creature enters, put three +1/+1 counters on it or create three 1/1 colorless Servo artifact creature tokens.)
Whenever an artifact you control is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, target opponent loses life equal to this creature's power.
1/3
I was likely targeting either B2 or B3, wasn’t certain which it would fit better in
Thank you very much as well!
I think for bracket 3 you're on the right track. For bracket 2 you may wish to replace some of the generic good stuff for weaker on-theme cards. Deadly Rollick, Mana Drain, Mox Opal and maybe Akroma's Will feel a bit out of place there. There is something to be said for Urza, Lord High Artificer being on theme in this deck, but that cards powerlevel is quite absurd in bracket 2 too. Esper Sentinel, well, maybe.
All in all, it seems to me that the deck would fit best in bracket 3.
Why do some threads in deck brewing get comments and others are ignored?
Great to hear, if I may ask, do you believe the deck would be able to perform adequately in Bracket 3, or should I aim to shift down to B2
I can’t speak for everyone but sometimes it’s like “welp I wouldn’t be much help with that” or just people being too busy to look
Making a post in #commander can get more eyes on it, the mods are aware that deck brewing as a channel can be passed over pretty easily but there’s no easy solution to that
thanks for the tip!
I think it would perform adequately in bracket 3.
how pointless of a combo is [[boarded window]] and [[orbs of warding]]? i feel like it would be a good way to negate some of these go wide decks, at least before they pop lords or one of their finishers on you.
Its a lot of mana to spend to basically not do very much in terms of prevention, where something like [[flame circle]] or [[silent arbiter]] is less investment for similar results, or you can simply start giving your opponent's a [[crown of doom]] to incentivise attacking elsewhere
Hello ! Tried to build a commander deck to add some tempo on my group games. Do you see anything very wrong or have ideas for some budget changes ? Thanks !
Fire lord azuza it is
https://deckstats.net/decks/284502/4333970-Azunyan2
continuing my stupid pointless combos. play [[grafted skullcap]] and then [[fractured identity]] on it, you give everyone an extra card on their draw step but they have to discard their hand at the end of their turn
That’s not that bad of a combo, especially if you’re running stuff like [[Razorkin needlehead]]
lol I got [[bark of doran]] from prerelease, time to toss it onto [[the walls of ba sing se]]
Artifact — Equipment
Equipped creature gets +0/+1.
As long as equipped creature's toughness is greater than its power, it assigns combat damage equal to its toughness rather than its power.
Equip
(
: Attach to target creature you control. Equip only as a sorcery.)
A shield that makes the world tremble.
Hey brewers! I am going to try Commmander for my first time in a couple weeks, been building this deck for a while. Hoping to get any advice for glaring needs or big card upgrades.
I recognize Teferi's Protection might be the single best upgrade, but any others are welcome (100 max budget)
Go-wide mono white token deck:
https://moxfield.com/decks/IlcqPKPOH0u95I78q_Dstg
Thanks for looking!!
[[Mirrormind crown]] about to be a massive problem in token decks. I already dont like scute swarms/hare apparent and possibly goblin decks, but i dont want to deal with them getting online even faster or harder. Though admittedly i do want to toss it onto my [[hollowhenge overlord]]
Thats not even counting tossing it onto a lord or utility creature, sure lets have 10 [[blood artist]], lol
Mirrormind looks amazing!
How much flying hate do you generally put in your deck?
depends on the strategy, but it should be a general 8 or so, which can just be normal removal
boardwipes also count since that usally destroys flyers XD
.

: Choose a color. Target opponent exiles the top X cards of their library. For each card of the chosen color exiled this way, create a 1/1 blue and black Faerie Rogue creature token with flying.
can be paid with either
