i set the light level to fullbright and translated it by 0.01 so its not in the block

normally if you flatten the block model its sides would end up facing the same direction, and thus receive the same shading

Right now it's hardcoded but I want to make it use a data map or something. Although an interface would definitely be easier for now. After the modfest I can look into a data map solution though
