yeah it doesnt make sense for what the map is. rotation is meant for small enclosed spaces they can throw together. they ran out of ideas and did caves beta, and then to make up for it did og caves, they got caught up in dev work and didn't finish the edits made on og caves. which makes it too unlikely that theyd throw away the project they've been working on for it. especially for a regurgitated version of a map that is WAY too big.

they only revamped the maps because they had flaws. canyons was pretty barren and empty, although I liked how you could easily scoot through the tight gaps i understand the appeal of swinging like a maniac.

that's the thing, it isnt. the original textures realistically are a 1 fits all. and it's not like people should get unreasonably mad that the map is the same, do you think tf2 would just change 2fort because it's been played too much? no. 2fort is iconic and has a playstyle tuned just because of it being so. forest is perfected as is, textures arent gonna date with the similarities in the new style and old because the old is just real life pictures turned pixelly.

they revamp the maps because there is a fundamental ISSUE with the maps. city was small. too small, the game was outgrowing the map. clouds sucked. canyons was barren. mountains was a 1 way road. caves was admittedly just ugly looking. forest is what? what makes the map bad in a way that makes it need a change. you cant say nothing lasts forever but not show why it wont. not every map needs to change because not every map is wholly flawed. the works of 2021 maps were ultimately quickly slapped together with multiple imperfections because lemming was inexperienced. but forest was tweaked, ALOT within its first 2 years, a luxury those other maps hadnt gotten.
