Few WiFi icons are not changing, and I am using the latest version of the application that was released yesterday. Auto brightness is not working properly, for example if you go from brightly places to darkly places, the brightness won't change. Sometimes, unless you scroll down the quick settings and wait for the slider to change.

after flashing rom u should reboot back to recovery to switch the boot slot

if not you will get bootloop and it will reboot you back to fastboot endlessly

no one but that is the proper way, and like what you said "inactive slot" meaning you were in the active slot and if you boot to system directly you will get bootloop, thats what happened for me

always clean install if coming from different ROM, and always look for a flash guide first to make sure you flash it right.

also, TWRP is always your safest bet for custom recovery no other custom recovery mattered, this one is only my opinion tho

some ROM also want specific ver. of TWRP, in that case back to my previous point, always look for a flash guide first.
