yes it was also delayed, but as long as you don't do the contracts you'll never trigger it till you are ready

It might be a good idea™️ to add some warning to it if it isn't time bound event. It might take a while to get aluminium and that might severely slow down the game progress.

Seeing this AFTER starting the laser contract for the first time in my first play through and realising theres a 95% im going to fail it sucks 😂

the contract has no time limit to complete, it doesn't trigger till you finish the contracts starting with charity

but once you start the questline you will trigger the laser. so just ignore the charity contract from SCT ltd and you'll not trigger the laser till you are ready

Although the laser trigger is called the "charity contract" the actual contract to trigger it is this one. I assume it's "charity" because you don't get any credits from fulfilling it.

I can confirm it is, I completed the quest in New Horizon, the ss I posted a few lines up was from that save.

My personal suspicion is the quest where you repair the MDR, given what I have read. So I'm currently stalling that and build my mdrs myself.

So, the laser mission seems to have some new trigger because I've now just been given it and there's no way I will be ready for it.

i think it is 2000 days. with my own playstyle i could not do it. but people got so good at this game, they did the laser within 17 real hours. if all that is constand 2x playing without pause, it is 4 in-game years.
I cannot understand how people did it. only thing i know: once i grinded to 4+ multi regolith refineries and have enough smelters to process all that into ingots, you finally get the feeling that the laser is doable. I only did the laser once when the requirements were not that high

I scanned / excavated a majority of the underground and had a single Titanium view ... totally screwed the save because you need plates for EVERYTHING

So, a new game started at 31-12-2079 ... and my current save is 21/06/2087 ... So thats about 2729 days

FYI I was on "Real Challenge" level

I doubt i'd ne able to do it again in 17 hours with the new changes.

I have been meaning to try it once again just to see how easy it is not compared to how it was. but 5-6 years should be enough time to get prepared, not sure why a timer was added to it.

my understanding if you fail the laser the game is over. unless this has changed. i mean if earth goes by by who are we to communicate with?

Is not. I was stalling the MDR quest to see, and I still got the "charity contract" without having done any with the MDR.

anybody with the time could investigate: i suspect the "build the repeater" quest.
It is my suspicion that the hidden timer is still there, it connects the building of the repeater with finding the broken MDR.

Might be a hidden timer that starts when the Repeater is built, I built the repeater WAY early and I've been sitting on the MDR mission available for quite a while.

Well, I am now playing an EASY play through and have reached the same point as my previous REAL CHALLANGE playthrough of 21/06/2087.

I haven't completed the MDR repair, or the Get Hope-2 data missions yet and I do not appear to have hit the trigger, but I have a very extensive manufacturing facility. Just starting to put together the higher end products that need Gases.

Just an update on my play through on easy, I had the charity contract sitting out there for a long time while I built up production. The Laser quest triggered about 10 months after completing the charity contract for me.

I Still have the contract in my list havent touched it and it trigered idk why

I think loading a save progressed the dialog for me and trigered it some how

Question; do you have to do both trigger missions, or is it "either / or".
I quite want to the MDR for the source of rare earth metal, but i don't want to trigger anything just yet.

I indeed had the Laser quest after a couple of months after completing the charity contract. Finished the quest as well now. Is there anything else?
