At a certain point, I got to the point where I had run out of CRUST's research bonus, but hadn't yet researched social research. This led to me basically not being able to complete anything with social research requirements, and because it was still early enough into the game were income was low, I ended up having to make the decision of playing passively for an hour to get enough stuff to export to get the money for a private research base, or just quit.

Honestly, I just quit. If a game becomes a slog in the first few hours due to no fault of my own, then I'm not going to stick with it. Just like the event came up where some corp was willing to help me for a favor in the future, it'd be neat that if you hit low cash or low research, you get an offer for more with a loan or some sort of pay back. This game is neat for the exploration and automation. It shouldn't be getting me stuck research just because I didn't follow a certain path in a certain amount of time.

you can buy research for credits in the "crust solutions tab" to help with this exact problem

Thanks, didn't know this existed. In fact, don't even know where that tab is. But it's still kinda the same problem, in that I'd have to grind out credits, which is the slog part.

"it'd be neat that if you hit low cash"... You will get an emergency one-time (or two?) $30K deposit if your cash drops near zero. I haven't tested to see what the number is, but it was around $400 for me. I then used $1K of the new money to sell some rare earth on the market to have some extra money in the pocket, and then bought Green/Social research for $30K by sending the Scout to the nearby private lab. By first selling the rare earths, I was left with a couple $K that I could use on conveyors and wiring-up new devices.

I learned not to squander my initial green income on tech outside of the 9 essential tech items (I posted a pic in a similar thread [Green/Social Research should be gainable](#1262508723214090310 message). )
I had to rollback a couple of hours of gameplay to do it 'right'. So, hopefully the developers will revisit the Living Quarters quest and provide better guidance or more flexibility on earning green income.
