What almost made me restart/quit the game was my inability to find my first titanium node. I think the spawn location for titanium nodes are too rng dependent and bad rng node spawn locations can be demotivating. Randomly scanning without knowing how far to look for it doesn't feel fun for bad rng runs, coupled with waiting for the sun to come up just to pray and spray the scans again. Game becomes stagnated for a while at this point since titanium is a gatekeep to the progression. Having now found a node and knowing its distance, I wouldn't have minded as much if I knew the scale of which how far I needed to scan is this amount of distance.
I propose:
- Given the sparsity of ore nodes in general, increase the scan angle/radius or decrease the power cost for scans. Though this may make it too easy after early game with scaling issues.
- Have a set spawn for the first titanium node to be close to the elevator. Probably the best way to implement.
- As part of the tutorial, show a highlight of how far I may need to scan to find the first titanium node. Gives the players a sense of what scale of distance we should be thinking of to find mineral nodes.
