it keeps you from being stunned/slowed by mobs

Auto + surprise atk with devotion up should take care of the shield. You can then start your fang strike combo after next auto atk if that is you preferred playstyle. If I had all cds i would just use beastly for insta 5 rune instead though

that's what the dash is for, ambush is way too valuable for that

the danger with opening with anything but ambush is that the sorc gets time to react which can be used to blink away or stun you with illu storm etc. which puts you into the risk of losing the inc or having to use way more cooldowns than necessary (this is really only relevant for arenas)

further if you open with ambush you'll have sigils on the sorc which is favourable since you won't be hindered by illusion and in case of the 10k shield can react with a cover silence

throw dagger might also be a decent opener but with the 3.0 change it will most likely be kept to get rid of the 10k shield / a second stone skin so i'd personally not get used to open with it now

make use of your kit. if you decide to blow your most valuable cc and gap closer at the start because pressing 1 button is easier than pressing 3 buttons then you might wanna reroll to gladiator.
