The opposite as you can't be food positive and have troops without champ gear. Not having food doesn't stop you training troops

For Resource (RSS) buildings:
You don't need multiple of any. It's recommended that you choose one type of resources and build all the production buildings for just that one so you can optimise production. This is called hypering. Then you can trade for other resources that you need within your guild - say you hyper stone and you have friends who each make wood, food and ore, and every day you share with each other. Many guilds choose to have one Castle that is a guild bank where everyone can send their extra RSS and ask for it back as needed.
You don't need to be food positive (most people aren't), nothing bad happens if you run out of food - your troops won't die literally nothing happens. You just have to either use food from your bagged RSS or gather it or having someone in your guild (either a food hyper or a bank) send you some when you need it for training, building, or research etc.

You can be a food hyper if you want; with full farms and food hyper equipment and talents optimised, you can still keep a "hideable" troop comp (around 2.5m troops with T4) and produce food every day. However unless you get Champ armour, you can't have much more more troops than that, which is a deterrent for most people. Using upkeep reduction and not trying to produce food, merely being "food neutral" so you don't lose it, can be achieved with a maximum of about 5m troops. (But that's a terrible amount of troops to have as it's too much to hide but not enough to take a rally so you can't join any way activity).

So you could have over 600% research speed boost

Unless you have really good equipment built up, it's a viable option to restart a new account.

The benefits of a new account are that you will be in a new kingdom with other castles who are all starting in the same week as you, and there's a lot of bonuses and perks available to new accounts. You won't be struggling to find a guild who will accept such a small Castle in an open kingdom and struggling to regain troops and gather.

Obviously the benefit of continuing with your current account is that you have some progress already... But it's not a lot in the scheme of things.

Getting into the best guild you can should be your highest priority.

The monthly Gold pass for kingdom labours also includes really good value on artifact coins, and some additional speeds, tomes and assorted stuff. If you only spend on one thing, it should be that.

But you can get really good value from it f2p anyway; spending isn't necessary. Technolabes are really great for f2p

There's another update feature called VERGEWAY. It's a tower defence minigame that has some nifty rewards that are very useful for f2p who are at a more beginner level like yourself. (It's not so useful for advanced players, still fun though).

For heroes just try to focus on the ones that have attack skills. Rose Knight is best for leader, bombin goblin is second best. Actually this depends most of all on your own stats. You don't know the stats of a darknest. But they're pretty weak.
For dn3 or below I just send T1 troops with 1 troop fillers. For dn4 it's T2 troops. My guild has killed DN6 with pure T2 only. So the issue here isn't pure troop v. troops. Your base stats make a huge difference.

But mirroring DN and practising on low level ones is a good way to learn the mechanics. Watch the battles as well and see how the squads work, you'll learn a lot

Depends who is rallying you and your stats. Otherwise you will burn pretty easily and can't cap a rally with that comp. Get rid of T3. When you have around 1m each t4 then maybe you can try defending a rally

Not a new player, but a question regarding pact 5 familiar army talents.

Example troop comp:
T4
3m Inf 3m Range 3m Cav 2m Siege
T2
10m Inf 15m Range 10m Cavs 2m Siege
T1 500k Siege

With this troop comp your largest squad would be Range and would therefore take the damage from pact 5 reducing your fighting ability. But if you added 15m more T1 siege then your frontline will last longer.

When enemies attack you, they add some siege units in their army. Siege stays at the back of the main army and sometimes they retreat when the enemy troops have lost morale. When this happens, tthe enemy loses, but because his siege units retreated, he gets to see the report of the battle, and your troop comp also. This is called walkback. A way to prevent this is for you to also have some siege units in your army... Your siege kills enemy siege troops and prevents a walkback from occuring.

As for T1 siiege, they act as meatshield against pyris attacks. Pyris hits lowest tier troops so T1 siege are hit first.

You don't want t1 infantry, range or cavalry. They drop morale faster. Go with t1 siege only. The others in an attack die too quickly.

To help ensure not getting "a walkback" you can train 200k t2 siege.

As long as your comp is set correctly that is.

You can but in the case where you are in cav wedge defending against infantry, I would only train enough for the event, so you can shelter those t1 cav or hide in a darknest.

The only reason I would train a bunch of t1 is...

1. train siege t1 for pyris attacks
2. if you are not looking to war and enjoy gathering.
3. you cab train a lump sum of t1 siege....in the event you are attacked, as long as your siege is your highest troop type, the pact 5 familiar will attack the siege.

Since the update where the rally is at the top of the watchtower, the 1 troop attack is sort of useless. So I no longer need any other t1, but lords ball is good to have the speed from the t1 cav.

I wish they would make an update that allows you to upgrade the lower tier troops. Such as t4 to make t5 scenario.

P2p are lore weave, berserker, songstress of the sea... they offer army attack, army hp if you are going for a mix set or wonders battle

You get a good amount from guild fest prizes. But use your treasure trove and gems from monster hunting / guild gifts/ mystery boxes/guild fest to get the required items.

It really does not take as long as it may seem. The higher the level the more it requires, treasure trove is most important to upgrade. Just be sure you always keep it full.

Ad well as gem loves from kvk. It's all a matter of the time put in vs money spent. If you want things done quickly then yes you will need to put in some money.
With everything now I think it can be done in 3 months. Be sure you are completing hell/solo events as well as guild events.

Its all just your time into it and if you keep your notification on it helps. Also try to stay in the top 500 in collo. The higher you are the more the payout.

I believe if you buy it now(or already bought it) and don't claim the gems before the reset, you'll still be able to claim the rest of them when you hit the required level. It just won't reset for you again.

So you'd need to wait until the next time they do a reset event after you claim all of the gems before you can buy it again.

And don't forget vergeway for getting the items for building upgrades.

Probably not until they're all gold - that's a long time at c17. And the trade off is some other chests you get at higher levels.
Some people prefer to rush to c25, some people prefer to slow roll castle levels, especially for getting easier watcher medals and ranking on hell events.
