As a f2p , for me personally i'd recommend doing monster research first . Why ? Because if u rush on military first , u wont be able to hunt monster really good like there's a lot of diferent . Another reason is because you still need save gems to upgrade those altar/hall/prison and thats take a while . . As getting t4 yes u need research military/economy tree maxed but lets be honest , maxing those altar/hall/prison is gonna take some time so go for monster hunting research first then military/economy

New Player's my #1 recommendation is stop at castle lvl 21 (lvl 20 wall) and in Functions under "quest notifications" uncheck turf quests, "show idle queues" <construction> is idle uncheck that box too, "building upgrade" show upgradeable buildings in your turf -uncheck.
Workshop uncheck that box under notifications and the show all upgradeable equipment beneath it too (only show upgradeable favorites ON)
can also disable coliseum notification and "show idle buildings on your turf" if you have more than 1 gym and only train 1 familiar at a time.
Removing instant reports (the "view" button covering chat when there is a battle) is also recommended to quickly view battle reports without losing chat links and unchecking the box under interface is faster to menu with.
now go win some kingdom paragon hero medals to freely unlock lore weaver for coliseum or whatever until ur 100% researched (no defence research it messes ur ability to join Dragon Arena for Boomeister hero medals) and get your treasure trove to lvl 5 which is max for a lvl 21 castle.
upgrade ur norceros and saberfang for travel speed to join rally's with.
when ur ready after a while next stop is castle lvl 24.
