So if I have less attack than opponent I won't be even kill 1 troop , forget about burning

Troops' atk is much higher than defence, so killing troops wouldn't be that difficult, But wall def is much higher than troop def as it is supposed to defend against a large number of troops (and still it is insanely fragile ). So, unless the difference in strength is way too high, you should be able to kill a few troops.

Personally, on a budget, I would go for one at a time. In that case (as I am doing now) I am going for Chronicler first. Once I have it gold, I will look at Songstress, and once that is gold, look at Berserker. It is going to take a long while doing it that way though.

Well in my experience, try focusing on some heroes, depending on your budget and gear

Especially if you are a beginner buy slayer pack's until you get at least a blue set

Than material madness and slow buy a hero at least (Chronicle)

Also I recommend go buy diamonds subs, for 20$ you buy 1 month sub which after 1 month gives you in total 4100 diamonds which is 41$ worth

For growth upgrade your trickster, scarlet bolt and sage of storms first

for hunting you would need 2 teams, 1 magic and 1 physical dmg team.
For the magic team I would advise to go with bombing goblin, prima donna, child of light, incinerator and sage.
For the physical team, Demon slayer, scarlet bolt, tracker, trickster and black crow are great.
BUt yeah like rudraksh said focus on the ones he said. They're good foor both hunting and developing

for war you would go for those with atk+hp in priority --> then atk --> then the army heroes.
For infantry that gives you : oath keeper, demon slayer, soul forger, sea squire and Rose (or goblin, both have army atk)
For range that would be: snow queen, tracker, death archer, bombin goblin and rose knight.
For cav that is: Child of light, night raven, rose knight, bombing goblin and death knight.

for the long run? I would say don't waste any gems, you need 600k to get academy lv 25 (you will need prison, battle hall and altar lv 25 for it, which take 200K gems each)

What does upgrading a hero border color actually do? Does it only improve their battle skills, or does it also increase their stats or something else?

Like, if I have a hero that I use all the time but they have pretty lame battle skills, is there any reason to get medals for them, or should I instead get medals for a hero that I never use which has better battle skills?

Research speed... building speed.... energy regains speed for monster hunting.... increased energy limit... training speed boost ... resources production increase .
There are so many things that support skills do and are equally important as war skills.

I definitely agree! I just said "Battle Skills" because all the skills (support and otherwise) are in a section with that title. I actually prefer the support skills, which is why I was asking this. Some heros that I use frequently have no support skills, and some heroes that I never use at all have great ones. So I was wondering who I should get medals for.

battle skills are like the assistance they give for your turf or armies ,like rose gives cav hp ,army atk etc ,they get added as stats when you deploy army using them

And hero skills are like personal skills where the hero can do the dmg,like you see in Colosseum or monster hunt

If you are going to the arena upgrade your support one's first as arena each time changes and different heroes get stronger buff.
Try getting one purple or gold first than go for 2nd . Medals help you changing color and increasing effect

Get academy 25, unlock t4, i recommend maxing mh research and economy, upgrade your buildings, artifacts are a great way to get points in guild fest so I recommend upgrading them and opening chests only if you get missions from gf
