Jewels you can pick up a lot from jewel chests and familiar drops.
OTOH, some people prefer jewels because enemies can't see them even in mediocre gear.

You could also consider getting rising champ to the 100 with 1+1.
Good chance you get enough to make a purple champ piece out of that

If you're spending about 100/month, and you focus on rising champ for a short while, you'll likely end up with either mythic boots or a purple chest piece, which not only replaces a bunch of pieces in several sets but gives your HP a massive boost, and you work towards being food+

Obv don't go for full 8pc champ, but just getting the range chest plate is a really good investment

I'm a very low spender (less than 100/month), but I was in a similar position gear-wise and I'd gotten a few manes from Tycoon chests and events, enough to make a start. So I did just that. Got 4 gold manes from a round of rising champ up to 50 with the 1+1.
Now I have mythic boots and gold chest piece, without spending as much as I would have on Tycoon packs / mat madness to get the same stat boosts. (And I have over 400% HP just in speed gear🤣)

I've been told my luck is insane, but I've gotten more gold manes spending far less than any other item.
Like I still have largely purple gear, except my 2 champ pieces 🤣 and I didn't spend much to get them.

Someone in my guild just did the coupon on the full round of rising champ and got 3 gold manes - that's a fat chunk of champ boots.

Full disclosure: I haven't bought anything in a while and I didn't use my coupon yet myself

But I'll also say: having the champ chest piece is so worth it. Being food positive with any number of troops is a huge advantage. You can raid all the dead castles, load up food before KvK and heal on the fly, do hell quests without having to ask from the bank every five minutes...
My food in bags went up a couple billion since I made that armour in early September

^i had enough to make a green one just from Tycoon chests, and out of curiosity got one rising champ 5 pack. Got a gold mane. So then I did the math and worked out how much I'd need (assuming average drop rates at about 1 green / 5 pack) to get purple, and calculated that with 14m troops and full farms I could be food positive in food hyper gear.
So I set about getting a purple chest piece.
Only getting the 5 pack every time it came out, and 3 times got the 20 pack, after 7 weeks I had it purple, and then there was the first 1+1 coupon which I took all the way to 50, I got some crazy luck with more gold drops and suddenly without having planned it I got it gold.
Did the same on the second coupon and that was the inf boots done too

I don't think the buy one, get one really affects anything as far as which pack is better than another. If a pack is good without it, it's good with it as well. If it's not worth buying normally, it still won't be good even with the buy one, get one.

Obviously, use the buy one, get one on the highest value pack you want and can afford, but otherwise it doesn't matter too much.

By maxing out an account, you'd mean that you're getting every single hero to gold, full champ set with full gold jewels "we're not adding monster gear because it's unimportant when you have champ" as well as getting the rest of the gear maxed and research as well. Not to mention buildings and troops. 200k is an estimate I'd say. That number varies greatly on luck and how smart you use it (or if you choose to use the illegal methods). 1mil is an exaggeration. That's only if you're gonna be farming baron and royal jewels, as well as emperor pieces.

Well, I've seen estimates of 60k for one full set of mythic champ, and I'd assume you want at least one set each of inf, range, cav, and mix.. Plus 3x 11k heroes, all the other heroes, jewels, research, sigils etc

The math for material madness gets... complicated. If you start as a blank slate, with no equipment components whatsoever, it's hands-down the best way to get started. Once you start getting to purple gear, or if you've got pieces to gold/mythic and don't need the chests for that particular monster any more, the value for purchase starts to decrease. For the cups tycoon is supposed to be very good, but is really random, and hard to count on unless you spend an absurd amount of tokens (think 500+), and even then it's theoretically possible to get no halos whatsoever. Unlikely, but possible. It's still good to do, don't get me wrong, but once you move away from depending on chest drops to get materials it's hard to chart expected value or what you need to spend to upgrade gear. Labyrinth is similar, but has a much higher item drop rate if I recall correctly. The packs that give holy stars are a lot more fickle though...

stars are great too, you really need elite to make it worth. you should pick up frosty special for stars since it gives some nice energy and stars too if you lucky.

If your plan is to make T4, and that's a really far-off goal, just have a small amount of T3 to tide you over; like a march of each type. And focus on T2 because you need millions of them even after you unlock T4 if you want to be able to take a rally. Once you have T4 you don't want any T3 at all, they are expensive and reduce morale.
