Probably phal, if only cav is on frontline you will counter 100%, in wedge you aren't countering at 100% (I would guess, I am not a great player yet)

You also had like no beds? So if your HP was higher you'd take less losses. With high counters your cav are better off fully countering infantry but if you need support bringing the infantry to the fight earlier helps
Cav phalanx your cav charge ahead far and your inf are late. So you miss half the time of same type support damage
