Anyways, the reason the range didn't die off is cos..

1. In the first rally, they went inf phalanx, which means the range stay back.. the attacker lost morale before you could hit the range so they ran away

2. Second rally, they went inf wedge... Inf and range in front, cav at the back. So the inf and range get hit first, before the enemy cav troops charge to the front, leaving the range at the back again

Anyways, you can't cap a rally with that comp.. you woulda burnt if it was a full rally... Probably.. idk.. ugh
