The reason range phal is best for castle mix rallies , or shall I say , reasons , are :
-) Range phalanx counters infantry phalanx; same as WoW you kill enemy infantry first thus minimise the losses on your frontline, given you have enough cavalry.
-) the enemy army will have to ''waste'' a lot of time marching the battlefield to reach your army , which gives your cavalry time to catch up.
-) infantry as a troop type does the least damage on a counter ( base atk)
-) a phalanx formation rather than range is based not on the range positioning, but on the cavalry; in range Phalanx, cavalry is spread in a phalanx type of way , which is why you send cavalry rallies in RP over RW , when you know the enemy is in infantry front.
-) To your question about 1433 , that rally is close to an infantry rally than a mix rally , so taking it in cavalry frontline is best , but with a twist . If the enemy walks back and you do less damage than they did , you'll burn , so you rather use range Phalanx there to prevent any Walkback, even if you're going to take more damage, but at least they're capped ( cavalry frontlines rarely cap rallies )

His rally was almost exactly 111 in that case him being inf phal counters your cav phal due to his range being fully protected and doing dmg to you the entire battle, by going range phal you would be killing the main troop dealing damage to your front - his inf. Decreasing loses as time went on and taking less dmg as a result and since most people run their mix rallies in inf phal, going range phal is a pretty safe choice.

Another thing to consider is that range phal forces enemy troops to walk up to you wasting some of their time during battle further decreasing dmg you take since your own inf and cav will get a hit on enemy troops before they reach your frontline to start doing damage themselves.

Cav phal against mix rally, the cav walks up to the enemy inf quicker while the enemy rng just chills behind and giving your cav a clean counter
