Wdym every gold is free? You have to grind for them and fuse them to max, it takes time. If it was for free I would've maxed my golds ages ago.

If you think about it, gold packs cost 150 souls. That's easily grindable and you can open it at least once a day. Besides, if you choose to not open it, that's fine. It just makes the process slower because you're spending souls on more expensive packs (400 souls on Skarlet pack) to get golds and as a result, you're getting golds at a slower rate. Hence, you won't be able to finish challenges or reach the Kombatant tier as quickly for the gold challenge character. Overall, my point being, it slows down the process.
