Yeah the game seems to be harder on newbies these days. However I tested my theory on this recently with one of my throwaway accounts. I played battle mode and some challenge mode until I could get to level 20 for the auto battle. What I found is that new players should utilize auto mode. You can run your roster through battles or the first3 challenge towers with little to no effort/attention. Once you do that for a bit you will have enough coins to get a bunch of silver packs and also do the better quests. Get the silver guys strong enough to finish towers 4 and 5 and then you’ll have some golds and souls. And that combined with quests you can get some diamond packs or gold. At that point get more gear and keep auto battle when you can and you’ll have silver team strong enough to do some survivor. From there you’ll really be fusing challenge gold and can get decently far in SKT, ltd time tower, and challenge. From there as long as you farm souls you can make a decent diamond collection as well.

shang tsung souls pack was rough for older accounts. only card we needed was ST and he was like a 3% chance. maybe 4%. no discount. opening packs for a single card at 3-4% is always a rough experience. you literally gotta save up and just splerge 10-30k souls to make a dent in the FX journey

20 packs should yield but that pack was designed as an RNG nightmare, if i remmb er correctly it had all of the MK11 cards except rain, but the problem was they were all like 1% drop rate, and technically that stuff is not cumulative. so really NRS can claim 20 packs is too small a sample size to gripe. that's why i was saying for a pack like that you really have to have a bare minimum of 10k souls ready to waste. truthfully you should have at least 13,200 souls to except a single card.
