I disagree. Buy as many diamond packs as you can until you reach a handful of at least fusion level 3 gold cards. THEN start saving for sales. You will need many gold cards as you can get in order to be able to stay on quests every hour, and the quests is what earns you the souls you will need to open any packs. Also, if you have MK11, make sure you link your MKM account to it, and log in to MK11 each day, because for the first 30 days you will get 40 bonus souls daily in MKM.
