I might be wrong, but I think, the higher soul/gold/renown/XP amounts are like the maximum you can get. Like when you also get an equipment after completing a quest. It's one of possible rewards on top of the guaranteed reward of 9 souls and stuff.

Do as much of the challenge and Faction Wars as you can with what you have. Keep pumping coins into the Silver Pack, then you'll get more souls from quests and get further in challenges and FW, then keep pumping souls into Gold Pack until you have some decent Gold teams, then move to the challenge pack for a while, you'll get there eventually

Oh... I recommend you save up souls and use them only for gold and diamond packs (in case you want the character from the diamond pack). You can get 25 daily souls for watching ads, and 18 more for doing the daily objectives. Also, you can get souls from the quests (I recommend 1 hour quests, especially quest 21 from tower 4)

The chance for getting Diamond card is very low. You have to keep on trying. I have opened so many packs and have still not got a diamond card.
