My oldest working budget phone just cut off on me because out of nowhere its battery was drained. I plugged it up and waited for a long time but it still got up to only 8 or 9% charge. I fixed that by brushing the battery's copper contacts while keeping a finger over the white 'square' (it turns red or pink if it gets wet) and the copper contacts in the battery compartment with a brush that I sprayed with ≥70% isopropyl alcohol. I also sprayed some of it into the charging port on the phone and sort of scrubbed its surfaces by rapidly plugging and unplugging it a few times with the plug end of the charger cable. Even though the battery contacts aren't exposed because the battery compartment door etc, oxygen still gets in there and compromises their effectiveness.
