I just discovered another easy way to conserve the power in your device battery when it's idle but is still on. Simply restart your Android device into Safe Mode. You can do that by holding down your device's power button for about 1.5 seconds and then by a long-tap on the Power off tile. That'll bring up the option to Reboot to safe mode with an explanation of what that does. On some devices, to power off requires a combination of buttons such as holding both the power button and the volume up button together. It works better than battery saver mode does alone. Doing that can also help speed up charging your device.
