It is an interesting balance. For an early to mid level in some ways challenge is not bad. Could level gold challenge characters faster. Say you have 1200 souls. You’d get 8 more level up cards and a fourth gold challenge card. So in some respect you level your challenge golds faster.
But no chance at getting diamonds

So, I am at the last battle of fatal and I was able to beat Raiden and Fujin... Liu Kang is the major problem. I got him at 55% and he regenerates Wethersfield i hit him or he hits me. I need to bring him down to 25% so I can do a brutality on em, how do I get there? I was thinking of a bunch of stuns but only characters who does that well is Hanzo but he appiles fire when Liu Kang heals from it. My kabal is fusion 0 so he doesn't even matter lol.

If your a very early beginner get gold packs of you already have some basic gold maxed then Kombat cup pack and most golds maxed them you go for discount packs
If you have Kombat cup team maxed then go for discount packs better than challenge

Challenge pack is the worst pack in the game
And discounts are not always reliable
Shaolin heroes pack is currently the best thing to other, otherwise skarlet packs
