Most effective way to farm points is to play survivor which is not recommended for beginners. You can play easy and normal but past that, you need some stronger characters

I personally have spent all my souls on towers and skarlet pack and maxed out everything from skarlet pack within 8 months (i was very unlucky) and shortly after managed to get every diamond in the game. No money spent on characters

And never neglect towers. Every tower takes years to come back and equipment from towers are the best in the game

Because scorpion and sub zero are among the most powerful diamonds in the game (scorpion being the first) and skarlet at later fusions easily clears survivor with no problem. And all the golds there are challenge golds (the best golds in the game)

So keep pulling from it until everyone there is maxed out. You will cover every game mode. 1 skarlet pack a day is enough to make you progress fast

if you're deep into a survivor run or using your big hitter team, consider an opponent swap if you see those

also restart the game every 4-5 battles
