first you should buy silver packs, and go for fusing silver kenshi as he's the guy who can carry you and get him to like FX (good to fuse other silvers who i mention here aswell), have him in these teams:

• kenshi, cassie, scorp
• kenshi, kung jin, scorp
• kenshi, cassie, sonya
  basically giving him synergy to fight more better in battles and use him as the damage dealer in the team. use this team to carry you. after you get fusions for your silvers like up to F5+, you can go for equipment packs after and equip them because they're very important. two really useful equipments you can use for your characters are block breaker and power gen, later you can use equipments like crits too just for the extras.

then with your souls, open mk11 jade diamond packs if you need more basic golds, they will be used for challenges and you have chances to get mk11 too to build your own team. you get the challenge golds which are better easily from doing challenges or faction wars rewards (reach kombatant 1). there's the best character in the game which is definitely mk11 scorp. he's obtainable from mk11 skarlet pack, so you can open those too to get him and even sub0. mk11 scorp is able to carry at such low fusion (losing in towers also gives you rewards), and build mk11 team with mk11 scorp (use him as the damager). get them to level 50 by doing faction wars quick battles (the 5 battles set).

Or you can be like me and buy a few packs from skarlet pack, train them up and be consistent with fw for possible fusions

While you're at it save up souls from challenge incase you find them in store too and finally play lots of towers to get free stuff even if you lose not the fatal ones tho you just get some stupid coins

Ive got diamond from 1st pack and also fw reward this way. I usually start afresh when opening fw reward, and also right as it comes in inbox. Just superstition ig.
