He can strip away a ton of the enemy's health on tag in. That's pretty useful no matter the fusion level. Pair with Klassic Sonya for maximum damage (cause her passive lets his tag in damage ignore enemy toughness).

He's my main workhorse in the towers right now.

pick an ideal diamond team you want, and an ideal Gold team. And try to target packs that would let you build that. Instead of being all over the place. But going wide is okay for a beginner, cause you need variety for quests, for challenge requirements, and for survivor bonuses. But those come anyway, cause almost any pack you'd buy would toss golds your way.
