hearts will be averaging on 1375 per key (costs 2 keys) in elder mode (assuming you get 2x bonus always)
if you do get full bonus on hard you will get at least 1500 per run likely approx 1600. while only costing one key

so purely looking at additional runs, cost per key, hard would likely be the better grind.
however that does not factor in playtime and possibly the use of stones to revive your characters.

free runs are always best spent on the highest type of krypt run you can do decently.
