it mostly occurred due to terminator or shang tsung on enemy team

every krypt battle I went into which had them felt like a life or death gamble

I thought maybe the more Stones I equipped on each fighter would apply in-full to each fight. It seems like the damage taken and given is not much different, if at all. I've got all these Stones applied to each fighter. How do they help me?

Damage is carrying over from one fight to the next. Scorpion starts where he left off at 74% from prior match. I go the to Stones screen with 10 or more health and the damage is still there. Maybe I just don't understand the function of the Stones.

What exactly is the krypt?

I have like 6 keys for it

Tldr: basically it's like a mini roguelike where you traverse through a floor, along the way you'll collect the main currency, hearts, which can be used to buy stuff from the shop(like diamond character cards, gear, etc) with a mechanic like survivor towers, where your health stays the same across all fights and doesn't replenish unless you use an item

oh and there's fights of varying intensity too obviously

They keys are only if you run out of your daily attempts, which you have 2 of, usually you won't use them that often unless you have a really stacked collection already

So when should I do these?

Well, it's decently challenging so, I'd recommend it when you have a solid enough team (like, bare minimum maybe some challenge golds with a decent enough level + fusion level+ gear)

but you can do it like without having that too, it's just you'll probably lose a lot and won't get as many hearts that way

The silver skull with three spikes around it means the roster that you will fight is a team that has a good synergy and good gears, fighting them is usually a challenge. The potential rewards will be the same on both skulls.

Additionally, The gold skull that has eight spikes around it is a boss fight that marks the end of the floor, once you clear it you cannot go back. As a fellow gamer and as a friendly reminder, I humbly suggest that you clear everything first before you go to the boss fight so you can maximize your rewards. Please keep in mind as well that even if you run out of time, you can still finish the boss later and the previous attempt will be kept. for instance if you dealt 50 percent damage to the boss and you run out of time, the next time you fight the boss it will start with a 50 percent health.
