#Proffie not registering on Win11

I have 2 Proffie boards, v2.2 and v3.9, neither of which are registering as USB devices on my PC. I've gone through all the known tutorials for troubleshooting and nothing seems to work. The boards themselves are functional still, just unable to be read by ProffieConfig, Arduino, and the PC as a whole. Not sure what I did wrong and where, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

FYI, the boards are currently uninstalled from any wires. Only thing plugged in is the micro USB cable.

try a different cable and different USB port.

what about forcing the boards into bootloader while plugged in (hold boot and tap reset with the USB cable in). That should trigger a different device connection in windows.

Let me try that again and see if it takes. One moment…

#

Update: Registers as "Proffieboard" on USB devices. Still doesn't show on ProffieConfig nor Arduino; only thing that pops up is BOOTLOADER RECOVERY and nothing else.

which would be normal in that case, when in bootloader it won't show up as a device in arduino, but upload should work still.

I'm not able to screenshot it, but "Proffieboard" is listed under USB devices

#

Had to take a pic from my phone

hmmm

#

that doesn't seem right, it should only be under USB devices if in bootloader mode, and it would say STM32BOOTLOADER like this:

#

otherwise, normally it should pop up under ports like so:

next abyss
#

That's what I thought. For whatever reason, they're not populating correctly. Did I brick the whole board?

plush badge
#

no, I suspect a driver issue. if the boards were bricked you wouldn't be able to get them into bootloader mode either.

next abyss
#

I've never been able to find that file in my ProgramFiles directories. Went so far as to completely wipe my system at one point.

hmm. could try removing the current driver set, install the DFU, then plug the board in again to trigger windows driver install.

next abyss
#

It’s stuck in DFU mode I guess?

terse obsidian
#

If you double click on it and look at the driver, what driver is it using?

next abyss
terse obsidian
#

Huh… well, that’s not WinUSB, so that explains why it shows differently. I don’t know where that driver would’ve come from though.

#

Unless it’s not the proffie…

next abyss
#

I just tried to flash in arduino and got the "cannot open DFU device" error

terse obsidian
#

Yeah, that makes sense

next abyss
#

I've run Zadig once before and was told I shouldn't run it again. Could that possibly be where I messed up?

Otherwise Bad Things™ will happen.

I wanna do this right the first time lol

v2.9 correct?

terse obsidian
#

V6 it says

#

Screenshot if in doubt

next abyss
terse obsidian
#

Oh, yeah, just whatever’s the latest.

#

I thought you were asking WinUSB version

next abyss
#

That was my follow-up lol

#

What do I do if Zadig doesn't populate the device?

#

It's currently not showing any devices in the list

terse obsidian
#

You need to show all devices first

#

It’s in that doc page I sent

next abyss
#

STM32 Bootloader, yes?

terse obsidian
#

Yeah

next abyss
#

Just double checking before I hit the replace button

terse obsidian
#

Yeah, that’s right

next abyss
#

Installing...

#

Installed successfully.

terse obsidian
#

Then you should be able to upload with the bootloader recovery option.

#

Assuming nothing overrides it.

next abyss
#

SUCCESS!!

#

It still shows up as BOOTLOADER RECOVERY in ProffieConfig, but I'll take the win

Thank you both so much for helping this newb 🙏🏽

terse obsidian
#

Of course 🙂

terse obsidian

No, the proffie.

next abyss

Ah, got you. Gonna go ahead and install. I'll report back upon completion.
