Hello all, I am new here! I just got an 89 sabers Ani Ep3 saber. It was working great for about a week, then suddenly while playing with it the speaker got extremely loud and distorted, then stopped working altogether. From what I have found, it sounds like there could be several issues. A blown speaker being the #1 reason, which I think may be the case. The other being the board being incorrectly formatted delivering more power to the speaker, ultimately frying it. I was curious if anyone had any advice on what replacement speaker to purchase? Or how to check my formatting to make sure the speaker is getting proper power? It seems like replacing a speaker is pretty straight forward.

I ordered it from Korbanth and he told me to send it back, this will be the third time I have had to send it back since June 15th. It’s incredibly frustrating. I take incredibly careful care of it, and it’s just for show and swinging around. When I messaged him this time he insinuated that these issues may be my fault. Which is not the case. If I’m not playing or admiring it, it’s sitting on a stand with the battery removed. I have had awful luck with this saber and I am close to refunding it and giving up altogether.

Let me know if anyone can help or what their thoughts are. Thank you!

Well, I wouldn't call it 'formatted' it's just a value in the config that is the volume define could be set too high for that brand of speaker. As for replacements, I consider best on market are from Smugglers Outpost, they can be driven pretty loud without distortion.

My apologies, im not familiar with terminology, im kind of a noob at this. How would I be able to check in the config if it’s too high? Or I guess where in the config would I find it? I’ve never hooked it up to my pc so I’m not even really sure where to start with that.

if there is a copy of the config on the SD card you can check (would be a .h file on the SD card), I think there is also a console command you can use to check via serial connection but you would need to know how to use a serial terminal for that.

#

as for where in the config if you see one on the SD, it would be at the top here:

#

altering the file on the SD won't change the value currently flashed to the board though, you would need to g through the process of reflashing the update to the board.

I'm not a tech guy, but I wanted to say sorry for the frustration, it sucks, but it's kinda common with Korbanth, so hang in there and honestly, I'd probably send it back to make them fix it as they should be warranteeing the saber for several months when you buy.

Also, Next time hit up #purchasing-advice channel and we can help you shop and make sure you are getting a good saber, from a decent place, and not over paying for it.

I am going to refund it. There is a guy here locally that builds custom sabers. He has a YouTube channel called “Ronin Sabers” if you want to give him a look. He offered to build me a custom saber using the 7chambers aniflex. I think it will come out to around $750. I’m not really sure if that price is fair, but I paid nearly that much for the Korbanth saber and I was sorely dissatisfied with the quality and customer service.

Ronin huh, I know I've heard that name before. And yeah, that is a pretty normal price for a custom install.

Same I know of the name, but nothing more

Probably a good thing. Generally if someone’s smaller and you know of them it’s because they’re not great…

yeah, if it was a negative, I would remember the reason why I know the name.

Unfortunately many of Korbanth customers feel as though you do.

#

If you want an Anakin EP3, ShadowFoil Props has a new run of their Youngling Slayer. You could get that installed from them for around that price or less.

clever berry
#

honestly would be cheaper to send it to me to fix, but that is assuming there is nothing else wrong with the install.

#

but in the end, up to him.

If you really do want an EP3 Anakin, maybe check #1019811438333792286
Or even the FB groups for someone selling one as well. Over seen them for around $400 or so. Very decent sabers and save a ton of money too.

Hey guys just joined for this exact reason with my 89 aniep3 , to upgrade my speaker is there a specifc i need from smugglersoutpost idk the mm of my speaker to replace. Any help would be awesome!

typically 28mm, but you can take a ruler to it. As for anything else, a soldering iron will be needed.

ive heard most 89 sabers have a micro jst connector is that the same case for mine or no ill have to solder?

it's possible, you would need to take a look to see if one is there though. You'll need to get at the speaker for replacement anyway, so when you do get it loose you should see if there is a JST on there or not.
