#I dropped my lightsaber and now it doesn't work

check that the SD card isn't cracked, and that it is still readable (you'll need to use an SD card reader on a PC to check this).
if it is still intact, means something on the board got knocked loose or damaged, and you should reach out to where you purchased the saber from to waranty replace (if they offer it).
Damn i don't have an sd reader
How do i take out the sd card cause its not coming out
it's worth having one when you have a saber, if anything so you can make a backup of the SD card if/when it fails. And the holders on the SNv4pro are pretty tight, gently nudge it back and forth while slowly pulling it out (in the direction of the speaker and emitter, not up and down since you don't wanna snap it).
well yeah, that would stop since that's where the sound files are. if anything that tells me that the SD card is likely still good, but can't rule out some kind of corrupted file without a reader.
It looks like it has a little damage too
Oh okay
Man, that takes me back lmao
You can pick one up for not that much money at like a Walmart or Best Buy if you're in America, if not I'm not sure where you'd find them but I'm sure you have some kind of Best Buy equivalent
Okay in gonna go look for one then thanks
Good luck my friend
Im going out to buy one rn
Found a store that sells them
I'll update you when i got it
Btw the lightsaber doesn't turn on even without the sd card is that normal?
yes, since the SD has both the sound files and config files on it, so the board wouldn't boot without it.
No need to apologize, that's what the channel is here for 🙂
I am also quite new but the people here are very helpful
(generally, lol)
But im confused how can i file get corrupted or smth when i drop the saber?
Digital files are stored on physical equipment, which is what makes up the SD card. If you damage the physical equipment, you can damage the digital files
Ohh alr
Lol
But I know that's how it works with hard drives at least
file being read at the time you dropped it, and the impact cause power to stop to the board for long enough to send it into a reboot mode, though it is rare. Really it's a step to rule out an edge case like that.
Alr
Okay i pluged it into my pc
Where in files is it supposed to be at
.... it could be the coffee hasn't kicked in yet, but could you try running that by me again.
If you go to "this PC" it should show up as an external device
Its not there
But my pc does register that i've pluged it in
If it's just not detecting it at all that might mean it's completely borked
make sure the SD is in the reader securely.
if that doesn't get it to read, inspect the SD for any cracks or scratches.
can you screenshot the contents for me, I wanna see if they are all there.
yep, all there. This is an SNv4pro pixel, correct?
Yep
1 button, right?
Yes
ok, gonna have you attempt a firmware update, pull the battery from the core first while I go grab the file.
I think technically this does risk bricking your saber but like, it's already bricked so really nothing to lose there
Doing a firmware update on basically any piece of technology risks bricking it if you don't know what you're doing, but you have someone here who does know what they're doing and your saber literally is already bricked so 🤣
You really have nothing to lose
What are you gonna, break it more? 🤣
did you forget I do TXQ repairs for a living?
I'm not sure I actually knew that to begin with, lel
Okayy
I made a backup just in case anyways
But I do have brain damage so it's entirely possible I just forgot
add the file in this zip to the SD card, not in any of the folders.
Alr
Once on the SD card, put the card back into the SNv4, then put the battery back in. if the button light doesn't come on, plug in the charger for 2 seconds then remove. if the ring light doesn't stay on, it means the board isn't even booting and is likely broken. if it does stay on, let it sit and you should hear 'upgrade success' after a bit of time.
Okay hold on
Its broken
The light doesn't stay on
Its still making that same noise
ok, I'd reach out to where you got it from, see if they'll send you a new core.
Okay
This too btw
Thx for the help anyways
sorry I couldn't do more.
Its okay
Is there no way to fix the board tho
Like if you know how to work on one of those
Cause my uncle does
not typically, depends on where the damage is located, and what component you would need to replace.
Uh
There's a reason I usually opt to just replace the board when I get a repair in for TXQ when the board is dead.
which is blinking?
Not anymore
The top
the button light?
oh, the pixel adapter? the heck... that is some odd behavior....
weird.
RIP
The light only stays on with the charger in it
Well if it's a TQX core it at least shouldn't be terribly expensive to replace
You can probably find one used in here if you post in the buy/sell forum
That's normal, the charging regulator indication light is tied into that ring light as well, so it will stay on independently when the charger is plugged in.
Oh okay
What do i say in the message cause they don't have a phone number
Thx
I would just be upfront, say that the saber stopped working after being dropped.
I wouldn't mention a new core just yet, I would phrase it more like "My saber stopped working after hitting the ground, is there any way I can get some help?" In any event they will likely have you run through their support steps (assuming their support team is any good that is).
the joy of end of the week issues.
Yeah its annoying
I was clicking the button with while it waa plugged in without the card and something in the core just flashed blue
Tf
🤣
Yeah its not connecting tho thr forcepark app either💀
it won't if it isn't booting.
Its fucked most definitely
Yeah
Did you send me this?
Or is this a completely different file
Its still making the same sound too
Nvm this is for the sn pixel v4
Not for the pro one
that looks like the original SNv4 firmware, and no I didn't.
I could h
Get a new core on aliexpress
Alr
@cosmic grove it did the light thing again without the card
likely just an error saying no card, though I've never seen it.
Pretty slick
@dark herald luckily someone else was walked through the same steps you're probably gonna have to do earlier 🤣
Give this thread a read-through
well, need to establish what board he has first.
Oh my bad lol
Crazy
@uneven dirge
I gots two o' dem sabers! Unlike so many others, the grip is male threads on one end, female on the other, same thread pitch. So if'n ya has 2 of em, you can thread the grips together to make a long-boi...heh.
The spiral cut won't match, but it does give ya a long handle!
😁
Thats nice. I prefer single sabers tho
TBF you could still use it as a single saber, lol. Longer handle = more reach and better leverage
That's actually sick lol
Nah don't really like how it looks
Fair enough
Yeah, actually you CAN'T do that to make it a double saber. It threads top to bottom, so you take one pommel off, and one emitter off. That's why I said 'long-boi' not 'staff' or 'double saber'...
Like so...
...around $68 each, so call it $150 after tax or so...
Ya gotta shop a bit to find the cheapest deal, but there ya go.
And it's infinitely expandable. A bit expensive, but you COULD make a spear...
LMAO that would be so needlessly expensive
I know...but funny to suggest! 🤭
$450 in grips alone, eh? (^_^)
Cool.
Ayyy nice!
Try not to drop this one, huh? 🤣
😭
I was spinning the saber and it fell
I just have to be careful while spinning
it does happen sadly, probably hit just right to cause something on the board to dislodge or crack. Would need to inspect the board closely to know for sure what actually failed.
I havw to completely open the core and send a picture first before they send a new one first
It kinda flew out my hand onto a hard surface
I think if it falls onto grass it won't be a problem
normally it can take some impact, but would still be best to avoid dropping it on hard surfaces.
It fell 2 times in 5 minutes
That was probably why it broke
First time it dropped it didn't break
Second time it did
How do i take mine apart like this?
I don't have a screwdriver that fit those screws
Cracked inductor. That is why the board is dead:
Thats not mine its the one the people sent
From the company
He said take it apart like this one
Then he sent that photo
This is my one
ah. you don't have a small phillips head screwdriver?
Nope
or wait, duh, think that one is held with 2 hex head screws.
Can you tell I have too much stuff in my head?
Haha
ok, maybe it is. Anyway, do you have a flathead screwdriver that size?
Uh
Hold up
Nope
I only have one where the head is big
Im just gonna pry it open with a knife
Or is that not good?
I wouldn't. I would get a proper tool. Ask a parent.
They don't have one either💀
the heck.... who the heck doesn't keep small screwdrivers around?
My father had one but he lost it
@uneven dirge do you have any Lego or Bionicle sets?
I'm going somewhere with this trust me lmao
I have loads of lego just not bionicle
Okay, they still sometimes have the right piece. Check your collection for one of those little + shaped pieces that you like put through things, some of those should be the right size
Source: I've done that before 🤣
Or if you have a fork with tines that would fit, that works too
I've had to improvise a lot of screwdrivers lmao
Oh those aren't they a little too big for these screws
Uh, a set of tweezers might also work
They come in different sizes
yeah, those screws are Phillips 00 size, so they are tiny.
Basically any small rectangular piece of metal that can fit into the thing
Oh maybe it's a perspective thing thing my bad
Yeah even forks are too big
Thx for the advice tho
Tweezers might still work, some of those have pretty fine points
Yeah i lost mine idk where they are
If you have a toothpick and glue you could glue the toothpick into the screw and then rotate it that way 🤣
or a blade that comes to a similar point, can be used like a flathead.
I tried a knife already the screw didn't budge
You could always just go to your nearest hardware store and buy a little screwdriver, they're not that expensive
or amazon for a cheapo set.
Kind of a bummer answer but if you really can't find anything in your house that works...
Well that'll take longer potentially
honestly, everyone should have a set of smaller screwdrivers/kits since you never know when you need one.
I would have to wait for friday tho cause my bank acc is dry rn😭
@uneven dirge how old are you btw? From the whole "asking mom and dad" thing I'm assuming you're like a teenager?
Jesus that did psychic damage to me
What😭
doesn't mean much, I am 39 and living with my parents (though because my mom needs the live in care).
Well, welcome to adulthood lol. Let me give you a piece of advice: when you can afford one, (especially while you're still living at home and hopefully don't have to pay a lot of rent if any) get yourself a nice tool kit. There will be many times in your life when having a nice tool kit will save your ass and/or save you money lol.
This would be a kit similar to what I use, though more stuff in it. https://www.amazon.com/STREBITO-Screwdriver-142-Piece-Electronics-Precision/dp/B08SGM6F79
I'm just 7 years older than you and don't enjoy being reminded of the passage of time 🤣
Thx
Lmao i get that
Thanks
hm. 2 years after I graduated high school.
I just told them i don't have rhe proper screw driver
Lmao nice
I have a really nice wrench/ratchet set that I got from my step-dad and let me tell you the number of times I or a friend of mine has needed a tool that was in that kit has been astronomical
Wait you make sabers thats amazing
Lol
I just told them i don't have the proper screwdriver
That one's cool
probably for the best rather than forcing it. At least till you can get the proper tools. I really think everyone should have at least the basics in terms of smaller tool kits. Never know when you need one.
Yeh
(generally) the more money you invest in a nicer/more comprehensive tool kit, the less money you'll have to spend to get out of a jam later
And especially if you're trying to get into a hobby like this there's gonna be a lot of times where you have some weird off-size screw or bolt you need to deal with
well, even my cheapo chinese knockoff iFixit kit has lasted me for 5 years, all matters in how you take care of your tools.
Oh iFixit is legendary
I miss my iFixit kit
It got stolen :/
I know lol
I was talking about actual ifixit
Bc it would be a good toolset for the guy
ah, yeah they are solid kits, and would last forever if taken care of.
Honestly I should probably just buy another one when I move soon lol
Also I aspire to make sabers as pretty as this. I just gotta save up money for my first saber slowly so that I don't compromise my ability to pay bills 🤣
🥳🥳🥳
Sorry lol IK that was from last week I've just been busy with the move
Nah all good man
I've been having some crazy lightsaber fights
This is one of them
Hold on
@surreal wedge
Is yours the bright one or dim one? Lol
Yuh
Nice
