Well yeah, a very low IV shadow Pokémon still hits harder than a high iv regular variant of it, obviously more expensive so you want to try and hit higher IV’s on shadows anyway but yeah that’s just to demonstrate how good they are

Wild pokemon shininess is not dependent on you clicking or not clicking pokemon. A pokemon will have its shininess set for you regardless of if you click on it or not.

Also as far as we're aware, there's no "pity" mechanic either for clicking on a tonne and not finding a shiny.

Mainly because those systems would require thought to implement, and would be easily abusable.

The shininess of research task mons (and the species of the breakthrough box mon) is entirely dependent on when it is clicked though.

The only thing that isn't completely set is the moveset upon capture.

Which is changeable when there's an event on.

(For example, you have an (And I'm making this up, there's no real task for this) Salamence Task. You click on it today, it's not shiny. Even if Salamence becomes able to be shiny later, that Salamence will never be shiny. Additionally, the IVs are completely set now. However, you wait to catch the Salamence until Salamence is featured in an event with a special move that it may learn through wild capture (So its CommDay move should count). You catch the Salamence, it now has that special move.)

It's currently commonly theorised that there are 6 frequently used shiny rates;

Raid Day Rate (1 in 10ish): The special rate for specifically named Special Raid Days. (A.Marowak, Lickitung, etc)

Legendary Rate (1 in 20ish): The standard rate for legendaries, unless it's using the above.

Community Day Rate (1 in 24ish): The standard rate used on community days. Despite recent arguments on the matter, as far as I know, there's not satisfactory evidence to suggest that this has been decreased to make Comm Day shinies rarer.

Permaboost Rate (1 in 64ish): The standard rate used by Permaboost mons. This normally includes Raid-exclusive nonlegendaries, Alolan/Galarian formes, Baby mons and Shadow Shinies, alongside several "hard to find" mons like Feebas, Skarmory and Bronzor, although it should be noted that not all mons fitting the above description are Permaboosted. (For example, Rufflet and Alolan Rattata, which would elsewise fit the above, are both Base Rate shinies) This is also the "high" event boosted shiny rate, used for many mons on Go Fest 2021 Day 1, for example.

Mediumboost Rate (1 in 128ish): The standard rate used by Gible, Deino and Pokemon featured in Mega Raids (Charizard, Pidgeot, Slowbro etc). This is also the "mid" event boosted shiny rate, used for Aron during Hoenn Week 2021, Meditite during Valentines 2021, and Kricketot during Fashion Week 2020.

Base Rate (1 in 512ish): The standard rate used by everything else. If it isn't in one of the above, it's name isn't Meltan, Smeargle or Unown (Which get reshinylocked after the events featuring them end), and it can be encountered shiny, it's here.

It's also worth saying that it is heavily believed that shiny rates are consistent over encounter types. So if a mon is at base rate, no matter where it is encountered; eggs, raids, research, the wild etc, it will always be at that rate.

Additionally, only some mons may be encountered as shiny.

Outside of certain events, these consist entirely of first stages, second stages with a baby forme, or species capable of megalution, but not all of the previous are currently unlocked.

For example; Petilil is a first stage, but is not currently available to encounter as shiny, as it hasn't been unlocked yet.
Budew (baby) and Roselia (second stage, but with baby) are available to encounter as shiny, but Roserade is not without evolution.
Charmander (first stage) and Charizard (capable of megalution) are available to encounter as shiny, but Charmeleon is not.

Charmeleon and Roserade may be evolved into, to be shiny,

But not available to be shiny through direct encounter in game.

Some evolved forms, like Uz said, can be available as shiny through event, so Purugly was available as a wild shiny in the previous Safari Zone, and Umbreon was available as a shiny for a few months last year through a Season event.

PoGo shinies work on a toggle system, which is programmable in advance, so Niantic doesn't have to manually flip it on at the start of the event.
