Otherwise, Incense/Mystery Box is likely the best way.

If you get Pokémon via Field Research, run from the encounter. It won't make the Pokémon disappear, it'll just place it in a "stack". The last I've heard, the limit to this stack is 100 so if you do more tasks than the limit, you'll lose the oldest one.
It's not a supported feature FYI. But this can give you Pokémon to catch at home.

No you shouldn't have to be. At the beginning they walk you through tutorials, so the shop may be locked, I can't remember. If it is, its quick to level up, it'll be early on. But as long as you buy the ticket you can participate :)

I’m interested to find out more information about this event in Feb. I shudder to think about catching 150 different Pokémon in a day. They’d have to drastically edit the spawns around me. Plus they’d have to release all those regionals. All i missing is Mewtwo regularly anyway

@paper reef it's possible. They have world wide challenges for players to complete x amount of raids, or other requirements. Last time, each team had to beat 1 million raids world wide. Got completed within the first 20 minutes for my team.
