Mega Energy required to evolve (after the initial amount) will slowly decrease to 0. This 'cooldown' of free mega evolution will be shorter the higher Mega level the Pokemon is

The main source of mega energy outside of raiding is through walking your buddy. You get 5 energy per KM walked, which you receive when you get a candy from your buddy. You can double the rate by making your buddy "Excited", either naturally or through a Poffin item.

Other methods of acquiring Mega energy are Field Research, event research, and the occasional giveaway.

Your best bet would be trading a ton of comm day mons (even non shinies) on fridays get luckies then maxing those since it is very easy to get tons of xls for them

Its just for what i have these ones cost the least stardust and mankeys getting maxed first

It needs 200k stardust left but with my pokemon go plus+ going all day at work and on my trip home i usually gain over 50k stardust a day
